Didnt we just do a raffle and auction for a similar thing, not really original, it is good though.

Didnt we just do a raffle and auction for a similar thing, not really original, it is good though. No you got a training session. Blaze will actually register you as a player and you will sit on the bench for a game and take part in warm up. My question... what if a forgeiner wins it

I have to say that it very good of coventry. Thats the sort of things teams should do i think. Gets fans more and more involved, raises some cash for them. Win-win for everyone. I think it would be good for some of these to be auctions and some to be raffles for those who can't afford to make big big bids (like most people).

Must be some insurance questions to be asked, especially the netminding prize.

haha... I just thought. Is this a smart way to dodge the wage cap? If said fan/player PAID to play... say £2,500 (if the bidding got that high) does this get deducted from their overall wages? ;o)
Nice one Phil! But it does seem to be an improvement on what the Panthers started off doing, auctioning days with the players etc. Agreed on the insurance and ITC cards. No doubt this would have been looked into beforehand.

Good prizes, but I thought it was illegal under the Goods & Services Act to only offer men only prizes ? The fact its technically an auction might be a get out, but you'd think they could work around the whole changing room issue. I thought there wasn't actually a ban to signing women as players either as women have played in the NHL before now. Good prizes, but the men only thing is stupid from a PR point of view.

great idea in theory, but, yet another way of creating a rift in the fanbase.for a sport supposedly aiming at the family market what a great way of saying, come on all you rich folks come and have a bid. i personally have enough trouble trying to find enough money to pay for the tickets for a family of 4 all season

Post by heja on May 19, 2007 16:44:46 GMT
erm well this isn't aimed at the family! well the expensive ones anyway as you have to be over 18.
its a great idea imo if the poor folk can't aford it don't bid.
but why not do it because at least give some people the chance of doing it?

Caesar, the prize is billed as 'once in a lifetime' so you wouldn't expect it to be cheap, much like a 'holiday of a lifetime' ( Disneyworld, Safari to Africa, Cruise on the QEII) all far more expensive than this particular prize. Plenty of families of 4 are able to pay forthese, if they really want to, so please don't pour a big negative on such a fantastic idea. All credit to the Coventry fans.

Once in a season, then once a week if it takes off.Makes a mockery of my all-time players list.......Paul Adey, Rick Strachan, Kord Cernich, Mr Wilson of Clifton, Mrs. Smith (postal bid) of Sheffield....and a chance to get behind our (darkside) enemy lines too.

Its i have money you dont thing.Raffle it so everyone poor and rich can have the same oppurtunity.Stupid thing is they will probably get some rich person for £600 but if they raffled it to everyone maybe £900,and I aint no white collar worker.

I think it's a great idea for someone is going to get their fantasy / dream of being a hockey player for their club come true.
Few things though. If the team is 6 or 7 goals ahead and you could skate, would you get a shift? What would you do if there was a bench clearance? And if you disagree with the reffing and voiced your opinion loudly enough are you going to get sin binned?

And if you disagree with the reffing and voiced your opinion loudly enough are you going to get sin binned? That raises a good point. Could all teams register a fan for every game and have them serve penalties for the bench and/or netminder? I know this tends to be done by the worst player on the team anyway, but why not have it done by someone who will have no negative effect on the team if the option is there?

The problem with having fans sitting penalties is that they'll often have to come out of the bin during play. Could be dodgy if someone only roughly competant on their skates was trying to make their way across the ice to the bench with canadians flying past them at 30mph. If the puck accidentally came to them it could also result in them becoming a grease spot. Entertaining though LOL.

This was done ,I think, last season in the football circles. Just think it's going the wrong way regards 'on ice' personel.
