I am hearing that Moblix, Vipers title sponsor have collapsed and gone in to liquidation. Vipers are to make an emergency statement tomorrow with regard to their plans for next season. Lets hope it is not bad news! Edit: Announcement brought forward to later today.....

Statement: In response to today’s article in The Journal regarding Mobilx’s decision to go into voluntary administration, the Mobilx Vipers would like to confirm that this does not affect Mobilx’s sponsorship of the Mobilx Vipers and the Mobilx Vipers Community Foundation. Mobilx, Managing Director Steven Bell said: “In response to today’s newspaper reports regarding business issues with Mobilx, I would like to confirm that this in no way will affect the sponsorship agreements to the Mobilx Vipers.” “The agreement signed earlier this year to be both the title sponsor of the Mobilx Vipers and the Vipers Community Foundation for the next two years stands as announced earlier this year.” “I have enjoyed my association with the Vipers since 2005 and I look forward to continuing my support towards the team and its official charity for many years to come.” Mobilx Vipers director Rob Wilson went on to say: “Steven Bell’s and Mobilx’s support of the Vipers has been essential in the Clubs growth and increased stability over the past two years and we look forward to continuing this association in the future.” “Today’s story was a little unfortunate but we are delighted to clear up any misunderstanding concerning this issue and we look forward to the start of the 2007/2008 season.”

A statement has been released stating that the company (Moblix) going under does not affect their sponsorship of the Vipers. Don't quite see how it can't, however, seems there will be no big disruption up in the NE.

My only thought is that Moblix have paid up there sponsorship up front, So even though the company is in administration, the Logo etc will still be evident.
If Moblix dies the death and becomes a defunct company, Vipers could be doing well, they could sell the Main Sponsor slot again, so an opportunity to increase income.

I think you're right Warren. It'll be an up-front payment that the Vipers won't refund.
On the other hand, companies may see it as a chance to get a cheap sponsorship slot next season, knowing of Newcastle's desperation.

Warren, think you must be right as i cant see how they can carry on being sponsors otherwise, tbh im just glad to know there not going to be effected.

if it is the case of the sponship money being put paid up front, then its pretty bad business as the cost of sponsoring the team would have probably helped or delayed the company going into liquidation. Or maybe the liquidation was planned....
still wouldnt be a hockey off season with problems over at least 2 teams

The more I think of it my last post needs to be slightly adjusted, Thinking about how the GMB's extension was announced at our rink. I think the deal would be along these lines.
Initial Lump sum from Moblix for 2 year deal Start of Year 1 - Smaller amount for a years sponsorship Start of Year 2 - another smaller sum to assist that year, pay for any logo changes (like The Cornerhouse one on our shirts)
If Moblix have done this and Year 2's payment has reached Vipers pre liquidation, then Vipers wouldn't reject it. I think the Vipers sponsorship may be used as a "selling point" for any potential buyers of Moblix.
