If the latter is the case, there's a Lawyer somewhere that needs shooting. If the latter is the case, there'll be a few more lawyers turning a penny or two whilst it's decided which lawyer needs shooting! ;D For the Devils' sake I sure hope it doesn't come to that.

Hopefully the agreement concerning rent free use is a written contract and not just a gentlemens agreement, and if so the council should put Planet Ice straight. It does however seem a very convoluted situation. If the promise of rent free ice in the new Facility (the big blue tent) was not in the contract the Devils would never have left the WNIR. So yes, it is definatly a written contract promising the Cardiff Devils free ice rental as i understand it.

so mr phillips is still running two teams, oh sorry i forgot its his wife at cardiff silly me ;D Oldman there is only one other alternative to the current management. and i am sure none of you want it as i know i certainly dont as i would be looking for something else to do on the weekend. I just want to watch hockey the Phillips Family can own 20 teams as long as mine is running which it will be.

I am hearing there may be some sort of announcement this evening ragarding the future of the Devils.
It may entail an end to the 'Devils' as such as rights to names and logos were reportedly at the root of the collapse last time.
There my be a new name in town.......
The Elite league standing of a club from Cardiff is not in doubt however. Just what that team may be called.

I know a team in Cardiff is the most important thing and I'm glad they'll be one but I find it really wrong and team's history and traditions can just be swept under the rug like that.
I'm pleased they'll be a Cardiff team next season but it'll be odd not to have the Devils after such a long and storied history.
Do you know if it'll just be a rebranding exercise (ala Beavers > Bison) or a new club (ala Storm > Phoenix)?

It's sad that a team kinda has to lose it's 'identity'..but hopefully it will mean cardiff can continue. Good luck to all concerned.

I'm not saying this is what will happen. There may yet be a resolution. This is just what I heard.

I reckon there will be a team in Cardiff next year - and playing under the Devils name! Good news for Cardiff and the league, especially with the uncertainty of their summer already - and it's only May!

its good news for the league and Devils supporters but makes you wonder how much influence planet ice have, is it worrying that they run quite a few Elite league rinks and that theyve been so aggressive towards the Devils management.

I am actually furious...
It really is a sad state of affairs in Cardiff. And it's all down to one man and one company with a personal vendetta against the Phillips family (as the Devils management) which is pathetic in my opinion. Now the Devils have been sold to these buyers there's no question of ice time or league status, that is safe.
As a league we just have to fight against Planet Ice - the day they take over in Cardiff, owning the Ice Hockey team, is the day we lose the Devils and a Devils team playing out of the Elite League!
Isn't blackmail lovely?!

Last night I posted what I had heard from the meeting last night about Cardiff, it related to what was at that point a rumour about the disgraceful action of PI. I then hastily removed it as I could not get anyone willing to go on record to substantiate the claim.
This is all now confirmed in the Echo. PI are on the brink IMO, they seem hell bent on alienating every hockey fan in the country with their antics. They are without doubt the most moaned about rink operators in the country; I find this all the more bemusing having met and liked Mr Petruis.
The Phillips' have acted quickly and in the best interests of the Devils and deserve praise. Some would point out that there is no smoke without fire and that this situation proves that Bob is a bad egg. I/we can only speak as we find and I have never been given cause to have anything other than the utmost respect for the man. Since he took over in Wales there has been a faction set on slurrying his name and I have no doubt they will make much of this. All I can say is that in everything I am hearing I can find little that would suggest any reasonable basis for PI's actions.
On the plus side the Devils are secure, that is a good thing; the situation that has brought this about however STINKS, the main protagonists’ seemingly being PI until information to the contrary emerges.

Indeed. The Devils agreed to leave the WNIR due to the Cardiff authorities' guarantees that they would be subject to the same conditions of use in the new rink. They should have stood up to PI over this. I'm not a huge fan of the Philips' ownership of two clubs but on this Bob and particularly Maraini have been screwed over and had they known what was going to happen they surely wouldn't have taken the club away from the old rink. The Big Blue Tent was built so the Devils didn't have to leave Cardiff, not to line the pockets of PI.

Over at www.icwales.co.uk Terry Phillips the cheif sports writer has confirmed the club has been taken over by two memebers of that 15 man consortium that attempted to take over. They now own 100% of the club with the PHillips family 15 year association ending. IT's the end of an era and i am saddened by this in the way it has ended. i can only hope the Phillips family will be seen at games in the tent. Good luck to the new owners, i would encourage everyone to go over to Terry Phillips Blog there is some really good info on the sale of the club and other Devils work in the pipeline and it is updated regularly. _________________

Just out of curiosity is Terry Phillips related to either Bob? Nope no relation at all, Terry Phillips is just the cheif sports editor of the South Wales Echo who has covered us for many seasons and does a cracking job.

G can get on signing players, and we can get on with supporting the hockey ;D

Hopefully this means that Devils can look forwards again to having a solid future in a solid arena, not just a draughty tent.
