Trophy? Award? Medal?
What do yer think? This started on ours and I think it is a great idea to have some sort of 'thing' in his name.
Re-name the BKO cup? Have an additional player award each year? For what? Least PiM? Team with least PiM?
Post your thoughts here and on any other forums you frequent. If, as I have no doubt there will be, there is enough support I will make sure it gets seen by the powers that be.
Thoughts....

Scrap the BKO, bring back the Autumn Cup and honour him by renaming it in his memory.

A fair play award for the team with the least misconducts/game/match/unsportsmanlike penalties would be a good idea.

When Micky Curry, perhaps the best referee in the country at the time, died in tragic circumstances in 1993 there was a trophy created in his name for the best young referee/lino (I think). The award seems to have disappeared in recent years. Just wondered what has happened to it, as I wouldn't want the same thing to happen with a Matt Folka trophy.
If we did have a trophy in Matt's name, I think some kind of fair play award might be the best idea as this would have at least some connection with his role in the game.

Something along the lines of the Bill Masterson trophy in the NHL? That is awarded to the player who bests exhibits sportmanship and embodies the spirit of the games. Would be a nice feature.

How about the Matt Folka Memorial Cup... an event with any profits going to (cancer research) charity?

Think it should either be the re-naming of a Cup or an award given to the best official.
Don't think it should be an award for an individual player - clubs do that.

Fair call Lucy. Best official...? Is there one...? Joking aside I think that would be a good idea, the officials take alot of stick rightly or wrongly, it doesn't hurt to let them know when they've done well.

Fair play award is an excellent idea but as above on the top official award is the best choice.
i think the officials from this (and previous) years would find it a very suitable and touching gesture, especially as they would all be involved.

Fair play, best Ref :- good ideas, but I'm with BJ and Wigwam, namely the reintroduction of the Autumn Cup, with the trophy named in his memory

Perhaps it would be an idea to have it for the younger up and coming officials,
something to note their achievments as the work their way up through the leagues, and voted for by their peers.
All the officials could vote for their top 5 and then see who gets the highest vote.

It used to be presented as part of the post-Championship final presentations but I can't remember when I last saw it presented.
