Lions first shutout of the season, and a good all-round performance for the Lions who iced without Mark Hallam (injured) and Craig Poynter (illness). Andrew Jaszczyk, playing his first competitive game of this season had the 24-shot shutout and the well-deserved man of the match award. The first period ended 0-0, but Lions struck twice in the opening 2 minutes of the second period, and again in the final 2 minutes of the same period, Joe Wightman scoring twice, Stefan Dodwell on the powerplay and Robert Smith were the goalscorers. Two goals in the final period, both from Stefan Dodwell - who completed his hat-trick - sealed the win for the Lions.

Hey guys, Just a quick post to let you all know that we won in Kingston tonight, final score 6 - 0. Elsewhere, Whitley Bay have beat Blackburn, who looked unbeatable, and so the league is now wide open once again, for about 5 teams to win. Im sure someone will post a match report shortly, but im off to bed! me and ted joined you at this match and it was ace!! Good work team!

Sheffield 5 Lions 5. The Lions a bit slow from the blocks but did come back from being 3-0 down.

The Lions take on "Table Topping" Billingham on sunday at the NIC.
The 2 teams are on equal points but Billingham have a game in hand,so this is going to be an important game for both teams.
Face-off is 7-15pm on the Olympic Rink.
Hope a few new faces can make the game as Panthers are away in Cardiff.

If it's the same Billingham team as last year, they'll be very organised at the back - they've only conceded 16 goals in their seven games this season, four of which were against Blackburn and five others were against the Lions. Oh yeah and in case Les the music man should read this, Billingham's fans are the noisiest in the Northern Conference. However they are nowhere near as good as our fans .

As has already been mentioned, the Lions host Billingham on Sunday (7:15pm, Olympic Rink as normal). There will be something new, though..... the 'new-look' Friends Of The Lions will be modelling (oo-err! ;D) some of the new merchandise that will be available for fans to order.... namely polo shirts, sweatshirts, fleeces, jackets, caps, beanies etc. Come and have a look!

is the game this sunday or next sunday As Carolle says... this Sunday, face-off scheduled for 7:15pm in the Olympic Rink (subject to delay if the junior game beforehand overruns - I believe it's an U16s game against Coventry which will be free admission - so worth turning up early! ). Tom - feel free to come up and have a chat if you make it to the game.... I'll be fairly easy to spot, especially with the new-look FOLs uniform saying "Shaggy" on it! ;D

Hey guys,
For those of you that havent heard, Lions lost 5 - 1 to Billingham last night. Dont really want to say much more.... hehe.
But on a lighter note, we are playing the Uni team after the Panthers next sunday. This is a highly important fixture in the Lions calender as it makes a fair bit of money which the team needs. The friends of the lions spend most of their time trying to raise funds to keep the team going for a whole season, so lets all help them out and stay to watch us after the Panthers! face off 10pm

The Friends of the Lions do their best at raising funds, but it's not easy, especially with the limited crowds the Lions get. However we have just bought the team new jackets and are planning a couple of other fund-raisers, especially a quiz night and a couple of raffles. The University game on Sunday is classed as the uni's 'home' game - the return fixture will be played later in the season - so no FoL sweeties or Lion Bars. I don't know if I'll be at the game yet - I'm away this weekend and it depends on what time we get back to Nottingham, but if I'm not there - Good Luck boys!

And a slightly bad tempered affair to boot. Your esteemed poster (Mr. Thomas) had a bit of a hand in this. Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Sr. gave the Uni back-up netminder as good as he was giving out to their little boy. No worries folks, I think he can look after himself! Most entertaining. At least birthday girl got to spend 12 minutes with him!
No.21 (from the Leopards?) deservedly got MOM and played an absolute blinder. What's his name Carolle? Certainly one to watch.
The University team had some very sharp skaters with notably foreign sounding names and accents. Their No.7 Bjorkmann (a Finn?) had definitely had skates on before, you could see that in the warm-up.
A shut-out win for the Vipers too, 2-0 over Sheffield Shadows.
The U-16 lost 3-5 I think. Not a bad night all in for Nottingham hockey.

MoM went to Marcus Maynard, who has already iced for the Lions a couple of times this season. Thanks to all the senior Lions players who showed up tonight - Scott Glover making his Lions' debut with one hell of a goal! What a slapshot! ;D The problem last night was weak refereeing - Mavericks #32 should have gone for 3rd man in on the first altercation of the game, and I can really understand why Luke lost his temper - the check on James Robinson was unnecessary too, fortunately he's OK and is not seriously hurt. When I get home tonight I'll update the stats and the website and get a small report on here too.

Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Sr. gave the Uni back-up netminder as good as he was giving out to their little boy. If your going to shout into the crowd, people will shout back at you! A good win for the lions, or should i say under 19s and under 16s with only 3 regular team players icing. Refereeing was poor at times, i myself dropped the gloves after a spear in the back, but unfortunately the player couldnt take what he was giving and turtled. A poor cheapshot from one of the uni's supposedly more experienced imports with a check from behind after the whistle on Robbo, and once again the uni players couldnt back up the cheapshots when it came to the rough stuff. But at times some good hockey was played, and it will make for an interesting re-match later in the season. p.s. - Well done to the Girls for a good win over Sheffield
