Weird. If we class "age 36 or over" as "late 30-somethings" (which I would say is pretty sensible to start with) there are 2 out of the 9. Hardly "awash" I'd say? In other news, Poland have only 1 of their 9 D under 30. And he's 30 in 5 weeks or so. Not a mention of the age of their D. Looking forward to the games. Even if some of them will perhaps be peeking from behind a cushion.

It's almost like they were struggling for things to say and ventured into EIHL website copywriter territory. Yes there are going to be some squeaky moments of watching I fear

I remember around 4 years ago that Canada was supposed to grace our ice.
Remember last time we was at this stage, we gave some teams a fright.
There doesn't seem to be the opponent where it's 50/50 so have to hope for an upset maybe Norway.

I'd try to target both Austria & Norway Realistically these are the “better” opportunities to focus on points. However it’s no easy task Norway have an NHLer, couple of Liiga, couple of DEL players in their roster on top of the majority from the Norwegian league Austria have an NHLer, 5 from the Swiss league on top of those from the league. There seems to be a belief in some quarters that because the EIHL is not far away from ICEHL/Norwegian league that it translates to international level but it just doesn’t when these countries can bring a line or 2 of players from elite leagues. Through tragic circumstances we are also missing one of the main offensive threats we used to have in Hammond too. People made the same mistake in 2019 thinking we’d be fine vs Denmark because the league were similar and we got waxed 9-0. One thing that does count in GB favour is we can outperform our level with the underdog spirit, we need which ever goalie to be lights out too. It’s definitely a tough task but I’m excited to see how we do!

Phillips is a massive loss as well, the sheer force of will he brought is difficult to replace.

Phillips is a massive loss as well, the sheer force of will he brought is difficult to replace. And Myers. Because he's so hard to shift off the puck, and understands the game at a high level

I'd like to say that I don't care what score lines we have against the big boys, as long as we don't go down. But I do and hopefully we present ourselves well as before. However, if taking down Austria/Norway is needed, let's do it. Denmark have a mare of a game. Other results go our way. Not asking for much.

Hammond (RIP) & Conway are also massive losses. Even though some say Conways attitude is questionable. He"s still a heck of a hockey player.
Good luck to the boys, we will certainly need loads of it. And you never know what may happen....

We've qualified for this stage on 2 occasions now.
We've stayed up
I believe we took Slovakia to a Shootout.
TBH, beating the likes of a Norway and Austria should be our next target.

Latest score GB vs Canada 1-1 (Liam Kirk on PP) Can we dream? We could for that first period. Now 1-4 after 2 periods. Steep climb back from there with so few shots on goal

Doesn’t look it, but that’s a result full of positives surely?

Doesn’t look it, but that’s a result full of positives surely? Easily the sort of game where the scoreline could've been demoralising, I didn't watch it but we at least look to have been in the contest throughout.

Doesn’t look it, but that’s a result full of positives surely? Agreed - put up a good fight against a top team. BOC’s goal was brilliant

I will be updating the stats (copy of IIHF page) and Standings (again from IIHF) at the end of each set of games. This will be on the 'Fixtures thread' so you can (as an alternative) jump to it on the CF rather than go to the IIHF site. Makes good reading as Norway are on the bottom of our group. Otherwise didn't we do well today. No issues with the reffing as they let things go at times but I swear we were took out when attacking their goal but no interference and thus no PP but O,Connor picked up twice. I had a picture from the TV showing a few stats but can't load it up here. They were team comparisons Expected goals GB 1.12 v CAN 5.85 Puck control GB 12.34 v CAN 19.24 Offensive zone time GB 2.43 v CAN 9.12 FO % GB 42.3 v CAN 57.7 Distance covered GB70.70km v CAN 73.05km Pass % GB 74 (197/265) v CAN 84 (379/450) Offensive blue line crossings GB 72v CAN 104

We also had a goal disallowed in the first for gk interference. Was a bit soft, had it been the other way would the refs have dared call it against the Canadians?
