Let's see how he turns out. Hopefully more still to come. Spares needed if possible.

It's a bit wait and see for me. He seems to flit between high and low production seasons. He can clearly play the role of playmaker, but it remains to be seen if Paredes can get the best out of him.

Awkward question, but is Austin filling Adam's roster slot? TBH I'm terrible for keeping track of these things, but I assume he must be?

Looking at his interview I think he will fit in with the team. He has a similar background to many of the team and of a similar age, he also looks more of a playmaker which may get the best out of his line mates. Looking forward to seeing him in action in Cardiff.

Looks ok, need to see him play though. If he’d signed for She/Car/Bel then I’d think he wasn’t all that. But who knows?

To be honest I think it’s a really nice signing. Just tragic circumstances around it obviously. I’m excited to see him play, hopefully he finds some of our sharp shooters, Lemay/ Niemenen could fly!

Like many, in any discussion i've had i've tried to avoid saying replacement. We were 1 forward short and he puts us back to full quota(once Kelsall is back on forward lines).

Happy with this signing and ultimately this is the calibre of signing you’d expect to see at this time of the year and we can’t really afford to wait around to see if we can get anyone better.

Did take a few re-writes to put it as delicately as possible, but difficult without acknowledging the gap. Thanks for confirming.

Is it me or do lots of NA players leave Slovakia early in the season? Probably down to the non English speaking culture etc and hard for those of North American backgrounds to settle in

Is it me or do lots of NA players leave Slovakia early in the season? I’ve noticed that too. Slovakia is not the league it used to be and crowds are poor these days.

Welcome to the team Austin, hopefully he slots in well and can give us a boost this weekend.
Bit if a rollercoaster CV, found his way to the SHL and made a go of it with Lulea, which is impressive, then had a bit of a stinker with KC Mavs (which was the covid year in fairness). Then he jumped back across the pond and did well in Slovakia, ending up 6th overall in point scoring last season, I feel that’s a good indicator of his ability. A lot of imports that do well in Slovakia do well here.

Would have liked to have seen a power forward, or at least someone with abit of size. Think that is going to be our seasons downfall, getting pushed around

Not seen it mentioned elsewhere but he was a teammate of Adam's at University of Minnesota-Duluth.
Welcome to Nottingham Austin, he's played in some very good leagues so hope that bodes well. You don't play in the SHL unless you've got something about you.

As others have said welcome to the team Austin. Was rumoured to have been signed around the same time as Despres. His scoring does seem to be a bit up and down so to speak. He produced decent numbers in the SHL & has similar stats to that which Brett Welychka had in Slovakia. Hopefully he will have a productive season in his time here. I'm another who would have preferred more of a power forward type player. Hopefully one will be signed at some point but unfortunately I don't think it's the type of player Paredes or Pacha think is needed Depending what article you read he's 5'8 not 5'9. Not that it matters. Most importantly Hopefully he has as it seems put the concussion & post concussion syndrome issues that he suffered in his time in Sweden behind him. www.athletico.com/patients/myathleticostory/austin-farley/

If he can win face-offs, then he will be a good addition to the team.

Is it me or do lots of NA players leave Slovakia early in the season? Probably down to the non English speaking culture etc and hard for those of North American backgrounds to settle in To be fair though Pidge, this was his third season with the same Slovak team and had had his contract renewed twice so doubt it was down to that. Given that he played with Adam for one season in college when Austin was wearing the A and Adam was in his rookie season there's every possibility Adam's tragic death could have prompted at least some loss of form or even serious questions about his hopes and dreams.

Have been away so only just catching up with this. After bringing in Despres I think people might have been over expecting with the new forward perhaps?
First things first: welcome to Nottingham Austin.
I think any forward who was willing to join the team at this point in the season, and under the circumstances that made their presence necessary, deserves to be applauded both as a player and as an individual.
And for that player to also be someone who knew Adam and played with him just takes that to a different level. (Adam was a talented rookie in Austin's final year at UMD when Austin was wearing an A.)
So, Austin, I salute you and thank you for stepping up and stepping in. It can't been easy and I have huge respect for you for doing so.
I can think of no greater tribute to a fallen teammate than to try and continue their legacy and help their devastated teammates fulfil what they had started. I have a massive amount of respect for him for that as well.
I can't help thinking that the fact he knew Adam personally may have been a factor in his decision? Either way, Kudos Austin.
As others have noted he's had some injury problems but they seem to be behind him. And he seems to be in the mold of the team they want to build both on the ice and crucially, perhaps especially this season, in the room.
Personally I think this *could* be a genius signing on many levels.
Can he play: for sure. Last year he was 6th in point production in the Slovak league. That's no slouch.
This year, he's played significantly less games than his teammates but with no record of an injury I can find. So, perhaps, he did need some time off after Adam's tragic passing?
So he's potentially a good player on the ice. But the real genius may be in *who he is* and what he brings in another regard:
Adam was a crucial part of this team and someone who meant *a lot* to his teammates. Despres is a seasoned vet coming in to fill an unrelated injury slot. He's going to know how to read a room and bring what is needed. That he played for the same organisation as Adam in the past makes him 'Adam adjacent'
But for the player signed as a forward: who everyone knows in the team is coming in as a direct result of Adam's passing that was always going to be a difficult transition for the team.
But this is why I think this might be a brilliant signing: Austin *knew* Adam. Austin has been his teammate. Austin knows what it was like to be in a locker room with Adam, to skate with Adam, to play with Adam.
To those players who've stayed, just that fact alone means Austin isn't an outsider coming to 'replace' someone irreplaceable, he's someone coming in to join them in trying to honour that person.
Instantly the team know if they talk about Adam Austin will also have Adam stories, Adam memories, and feelings about Adam's loss. They will feel he gets what they're going through more than someone who didn't know Adam. And they will feel that they maybe get what he's going through.
Basically, Austin has come into the team but his presence doesn't force Adam out, or exclude any conversations, laughter, memories or sadness.
Austin knew Adam "back in the day" as the talented youngster that went on to be the player the Panthers teammates knew.
In short, Austin is part the extended Adam teammate family. They can play together (whatever their individual personal motivations for continuing playing) knowing that the linemate that's centring them, the player that's with them on the bus or in the locker room "gets it".
However it came about I think it's a potentially genius bit of business and I think both Austin and the organisation should be applauded. OP and JP have in this signing looked for ways not only to move the team forwards but also help them continue their road to healing.
And, at the end the day, they've brought in a player who when he looks down at "Forever our 47" on the ice is going to feel exactly what that represents.
That's a player we need right now when that puck drops
Welcome Austin
