The players and staff have just come out on to Bolero Sq many of them crying, a lovely speech by Kevin Moore, they all look totally devastated. Plenty of Steelers here paying their respects and Cardiff & Coventry fans have made the trip. Thank you to them all.

Don’t know why, but felt the need to go past Bolero Square. Just drove by about 20 mins ago. Plenty of people in shirts around and floral tributes as you’d expect.
Such a shock and a loss to a lot of people.
Thinking of his family and also the poor Steelers player that inflicted this. He must be on the floor.
RIP AJ 47.

It's obviously hitting a few other sportsmen and clubs.. with all giving some sort of thoughts to it. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/ice-hockey/67253892Personally affected me like most people and soon after Mike Hammond's passing also. Not even seen or met the guy but its evident he was well regarded and a team player loving the game he played.

What an awful thing to happen. So sorry for Adam’s family, his teammates, coaches and backroom staff, everyone who witnessed the incident last night and the game of hockey in general.
Understandably, emotions are raw at the moment and it’s going to be some time before the players are ready to take to the ice again but hopefully they can find the strength to do so. Hopefully everyone at the club, supporters included, can come together and dedicate the rest of the season to Adam’s memory and play (and support) each and every shift in a manner befitting of the wonderful person he clearly was. The shirt retirement and minute’s applause on 47 minutes suggested by others both seem apt to me.
This incident has reminded me of the tragic death of Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes in 2014, after he was struck by a bouncer on his neck just behind his ear. The design of cricket helmets has been modified in a relatively minor way to try and prevent this happening again but I’m struggling to think of ways of protecting a hockey player’s neck to try and prevent this type of incident happening again without a significant redesign of their equipment. It’s a discussion for another day but I suspect it will be looked at.
Rest In peace Adam.

I am horrified to have been at the game it is the most traumatic thing I have ever had the misfortune to witness I also was at the cup-semi final in Sheffield as well against Liverpool but was far enough away not to see to much but this was something on a different level of horror I still cannot believe it and have to keep checking to make sure I am not dreaming it seems unreal to me and just cannot get over it. I know the Panthers will do something at the right time and it takes as long as it takes for them to start playing again hockey is very much secondary at the current time whilst things are still very raw to everyone. I also I need to add that some of the things that are being said on line regarding the incident with Matt Petgrave are absolutely disgusting suggesting this was an intentional act and he should go to prison are disgusting and clearly do not realise it was a very tragic accident. I wish people would show some compassion towards him don's get me wrong as a Panthers fan I love the rivalry with the Sheffield Steelers and there is not love lost there but this was clearly and accident and just think how Matt Petgrave must be feeling and that the sort of comments that are doing the rounds should stop and ask themselves a serious question about what they are doing.

Very sad and still in shock.
Response has been good by all.
Don't agree on the shirt retirement but we all have our own views and opinions.

Sheffield and Nottingham fans side by side. So they should be. After all these years the only rivalry should be that Sheffield are a very good team and we want to beat them. In general the players are all friends and so should the fans be. It should be time to grow up and put that crap behind us now.

Still just in utter shock and like many other hockey fans heartbroken by the passing of Adam despite all the HEROIC actions of all involved last night and early hours of the morning. From the medical teams on the night, the players creating screens to protect the fans from seeing what was and will be seen as a horrific and tragic accident and all the doctors and surgeons who tried to save a tremendous light and great hockey player.
To those people who have no brains whatsoever thinking that Matthew intentionally set out to injure Adam deliberately is completely disgusting and I say to them is get lost as you're not welcome in our epic and amazing community. We will always come together in time of need for each other regardless of jersey we may wear and support the hockey communities up and down the country as one.
This will take a lot of time to sink in and to get over but thoughts are with everyone in the Johnson family, his partner and friends, teammates and also everyone who's been affected by the tragic event and a plea to Matthew Petgrave please don't blame yourself as we will never blame you for the accident. RIP Adam Johnson, #47 Then, Now and Forever and you'll NEVER be forgotten EVER!!! #retire#47 #HockeyComesUnited

The next few days will be extremely difficult but once respects have been paid the best way to deal with this is to get back to what people know and not to forget Adam.

I'm one of the people who were genuinely ecstatic when we secured Adam's signature and am heartbroken by the tragedy that unfolded. However, my opinion, and a very controversial one at this time is that, whilst I whole-heartedly agree with postings such as " To those people who have no brains whatsoever thinking that Matthew intentionally set out to injure Adam deliberately ... " I feel that Petgrave seems to have made a reckless, late, high speed attempt at a hit on a Panthers player on his blindside which resulted in his own up-ending and the subsequent catastrophe. I don't think that there was ever an intention to hurt Adam and certainly not with such devastating results. However there does seem to be a culture at some clubs to take out the opposition in whatever way. Perhaps this incident will awaken the management and coaching staff at teams to rein in the recklessness that seems to be embedded. Some might even lose the 'dirty, dirty ..' epithet that rings around the arena on playoff weekends. RIP Adam, Nottingham only had you for a short while but the memories you left are indelible.

Still can't believe what has happened. Many condolences to Adam's friends and family, hopefully they and the people who witnessed the accident get the help they need to heal.
Times like these, there are no rivalries as demonstrated by the fans of other teams who were at Bolero Square.
We are truly one great big Hockey Community

If anyone is thinking of going to to Bolero Square to pay tribute and/or lay flowers, I strongly recommend that you do. It has helped me enormously today being around the square.

Suttonian posted that Gary Rippingale’s No3 shirt was retired following his death aged just 18yrs old. I was reminded that Gary passed away 31 years ago today when Michelle Gary’s sister posted this on facebook. A sad day remembered by so many particularly today.
