greetings from Great Yarmouth, strolling the sea front with the family. I knew if i didnt stay home and watch the game, we'd have better luck.

We will get a pretty good idea today of how all of this is going to turn out. Hopefully it will be a lot different to last night You'll soon find out if they have the mental strength to bounce back after defeat and they take on board what the coach wants to do.. It seems the answer is yes.. makes a change from last year...

It’s almost as if they need to be judged after a month or two and not 60 mins lol You steady on. We will have no positivity here thank you very much. The regs won’t like it. My apologies - won’t happen again

That was actually a good game of Hockey.
Both results at the weekend were typical scores between the 2 teams.
Our Forwards are very speedy and do look dangerous and once they gel, things will be interesting.
With these Forwards, we've got a great chance when Games go into Overtime.
Our Defence scares me, In periods 1 & 3, Sheffield had complete control of our Zone and couldn't get off The Puck, that and their 2nd Goal gave me flashbacks of last season. Thought they figured it out in the 2nd Period though.
Robinson was excellent especially on their Breakaways. Like others said, if he's our 2nd choice N/M and ROK plays just as good, then we are in excellent shape in net.
Probably find a different song to MRS Robinson though.
Once they equalised, I thought that they would get a late winner, which would have been typical, but it was us that got it and it wasn't in O/T.
I do think that if a big Forward becomes available, then snap him up, just to protect our guys. Carry a spare Skater.
If they play like that, then I doubt we'll be losing heavily at home to the likes of Dundee but it would be interesting how we play against The Giants and Devils.
I really liked our entrance video.

Attendance wasn't great . Quite a few empty seats .
Game itself very good . Fast transitions looked dangerous on the attack and a lot of speed which steelers looked to struggle with at times . Some very nice skill moves to get past the dmen and great pressure when they had the puck on their own end which resulted in a good load of chances .
Defence could do with a little work especially clearing the zone . Gave up a sloppy goal trying to clear the goal in front of the net and Steelers capitalised once and could have had several from similar positions.
Passing could have been better but considering only 3 played together last year I'll take it happily .
Neilson I liked the look of very much lemay looked quality herdbrant looked dangerous .
biggest changes from last year other than the fact we won for me
1work rate , they worked every second of that game
2 mental , they came back from a poor game and back from a goal down and got the win . Past panthers teams have struggled with this big time
3 coach actually was engaging the players offering encouragement didn't just stand there with his arms crossed .
Some positive signs for sure let's see how it translates to the league

What was attendance like? It was much better than it looked like it was going to be. However still could’ve/should’ve been so much better with a different approach to the ticketing like discussed elsewhere

Attendance tonight was 4496, so at £25 a pop that's about £112k. The Steelers got about 9300 last night so made around £93k at £10 a ticket. The Sheffield arena must have made a lot more in food sales etc, but the Steelers don't get any of that. It didn't cost the Panthers org any lost revenue, but 7000 at a tenner a ticket would.

Very good tribute to Alex Graham and especially the one to Mike Hammond before the game. The latter was quite moving.

Running a sports team like a business means revenue maximisation., especially at this point in the season. One point to Finance Freddie. Last night there were people queuing 30 deep to buy merch. I’m willing to bet the people selling Panthers merch outnumbered the people buying it tonight? One for Freddie to address.

But not all fans paid £25, I would guess the majority of Panthers fans in attendance were ST holders so would have been £10 a ticket, then you have any freebie’s and based on the way some groups of fans were clumped together I’d have said there was a fair few (plus on the arena website the row in front of me was sold out but in reality had 5 people on it) and that would leave Steelers fans and any remaining Panthers fans paying £25, I’d be shocked if we came with in £20,000 of what Steelers made

Well, no one paid £25 a ticket, unless they'd bought one of those handful of "Platinum" seats (£35!). The vast majority of our seats are in Silver blocks, which I think the max price is £22?
To me a full house for the players' first game for the club would've had a value, just not one that Finance Freddie would be able to get misty eyed over.

Therein lies one of the biggest issues of the last however long at Panthers. The ownership might know the price of everything but they know the value of nothing. Ultimately a sports club is made up of a lot of little things, the more of these things you get right, the better your chance of success. It’s something Steve Cooper has done superbly since he took charge at Forest, understanding the value of the fan base, the value of the history of the club and the value of it being a part of the city.

Adult ticket in Silver is £25 when booking fee is applied, I agree it would have been nice for it to be packed but it was still a very good atmosphere

For todays game it was a total of £27, including both fees, to sit in a standard gold seat, it’s the same price for an Adult, Senior or Student as we seemingly in the gold blocks. There is a price difference between the categories in the other colour blocks for some reason. Going off at a tangent as well, Ticketek, the website that you have to buy our tickets through, is poor. Another dreadful decision from the arena in relation the Panthers

I believe the Devils get to keep the revenues from their refreshment sales at the IAW. This must be a great extra revenue stream. I hope the Clan get a similar deal as the league would benefit from a competitive Scottish team.

So, we win in a preseason against our 'biggest rivals' in a game that some have said was well played and a good bounce back from a loss the previous night. Do we get reports on how players performed, or what the PP or PK was like? Nope we get post after post of what the attendance was like and the cost, etc. and all comparing it with sheffield. If it bothers you that much, go there, give simmsy and smith your money, most dont go the Panthers games anyway but only come on here to moan. It must have been gut wrenching that they won last night, so you had to find something else to bitch about.
I have no opinion on the game as I didnt go, as I was away, so was hoping for some insight of how it went.

Didn’t see saturday night but 2nd game in was pretty impressed overall and came away thinking “I’ve come away with what I wanted” which I did maybe once or twice last year max.
The tone and tempo we started with set the standard, high pressure, hard working, and throwing themselves into every board battle, nobody looked to be “disinterested” or “coasting” out there which is the bare minimum I expect from my team.
Whilst understandably maybe a little rusty still overall we looked pretty slick, had good speed in transition and created our fair share of chances. If I had one concern it would be that Tetlow does still seem totally out of his depth, but that’s not to say he didn’t give it his all.
Few comments on players I noted:
Robinson - a few excellent 1on1 saves which he made look pretty simple, calm and assured in net with minimal rebounds. Not sure what I expected, but he looked very capable.
Neill - very Eric Werner like in his approach, not flash but mobile, hard working and marshalled the D well. Always talking and organising and created space for the more attacking Bjorkung to utilise. Can see him getting a letter this year
McGurty - didn’t notice him at all, which is exactly what the write ups said - indicates he did everything expected from a reliable stay at home d man.
Bjorkung - good puck carrier, 2 assists, not afraid to be aggressive in front of net - so can see him ruffling a few feathers this year as plenty of dark arts involved - great to see
Tetlow - looked lost, a number of giveaways, beaten too easily round the boards. Looks to be our weak link. He needs to keep it simple and stick to his strengths.
Henbrant - could have a real diamond here. No expectation coming in at all but would probably give mosey/Bellamy a run for their money speed wise. Works very hard, great skill set, and nearly scored one of the goals of the season already. Hope he keeps it up
Nieminen - right place right time. Very early days but the back on being where he needs to be reminded me a little of DAB - summed up nicely with the winner. Didn’t see too much of his speed, but very cool customer and looks to instinctively know where the net is.
Johnson - by all accounts was Dissapointing on Saturday, but looked dangerous tonight with a few flying bursts down the wing and a great assist for the first. Still finding his feet id imagine but much better by all accounts
Lemay - my pick of the night and quite rightly MOM. 1+2 on the night, quick, skilful, creative, worked hard, and showed great patience on occasions to open up different passing/shooting lanes when it would have been easier to shoot earlier. Looks to be a great find
Welsh - nailed down the centre role of the Lemay Welsh Henbrant line very well and allowed the other 2 to flourish. Very defensively responsible and often the first one back in the D zone then things broke down up front.
Generally, one of the biggest things I saw was a willingness to battle for everything first and foremost, we didn’t look to tire at all which I vividly remember happening in the first pre season against Sheff last year, and finally our forwards were all defensively responsible and worked back tirelessly to make sure there were limited odd man rushes (apart from the occasional turn over) Welsh, lunsjo, Michaud especially.
8/10 overall - pleased with what I saw, things to tidy up of course but came away feeling pleased for the first time in quite a while. More to come definately but the potential is there. Do worry about going away to Dundee/Glasgow with our lack of deterrent still, I just hope we either sign one as spare, or are lucky with injuries…

I have no opinion on the game as I didnt go, as I was away, so was hoping for some insight of how it went. And that’s the reason why I lost interest with this forum. To many people using it to moan and complain that the club isn’t run the way that they would run the club. There is a simple solution, if you don’t like it don’t go. I thought I would give the forum another try as it’s the start of a new season but again posts on a game have become gripes on other matters. I realise people have the right to express an opinion so just set up another topic and discuss these issues on there and leave those that couldn’t get to the game read updates from those that did.
