SCAM BOOKMike Hammond (29 pages) www.amazon.co.uk/Biography-Mike-Hammond-Tribute-British/dp/B0CCCSTNB4/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1695276811&sr=1-1AVOID, sham of 29 pages at high cost. Arrived today, large print, likely re-printed from other material after copyright tells us that persons work (Jonathan Johnson) should not be reproduced. Example on page 5...'Along with time in Germany, Denmark, and Canada, Hammond also played for the Braehead Clan, Manchester Storm, Coventry Blaze, and Coventry Blaze. (same copy checker as Elite OS it seems). Page 11...'Got the start against the Cardiff Devils and finished with 24 stops in a 3-2 defeat.' whilst playing with Manchester. 13...He spent two seasons as a Panther and won the EIHL Goaltender of the year award in 2022.Additionally, he contributed to the Panthers 2021 EIHL title triumph. 'Hammond was a gifted goalkeeper who could play both the stand up and the butterfly positions. and it goes on, could be talking of anyone, and added paragraphs spaced out to pad the book is just non sensible. What it is, is a scam and poor that it plays from someone's death. Sold on Amazon and I have informed them and our club.
Give warnings to people who might buy via amazon.co.uk or goodreads.com Goodreads.com who show this Jonathan Johnson (with 151 books) on their site have contacted me for more info, hopefully (they support Amazon books) they will get this sorted.

You can now add any comments from here on as regards stats/fixtures/facts of the team.
Main parts above will be kept neat so you don’t have to do too much scrolling.
Bobness will, I’m sure, add some ditty here in comments as time goes on like myself on player detail. Please do comment as you wish.
Some notifications on what is new to view will appear here ( when I advise) also but deleted later to avoid clutter.

Isn't it nice when you suddenly find your name in 'lights', mentioned within something. Known to me as Ben Hasin, the guy asked if anyone FROM THIS FORUM could help him as regards our British (UK) history. I did this and it was a lengthy emailing period over years that I did my best. Thank goodness for all those books I have on the shelf. We are both members of the 'Society for International Hockey Research' (SIHR) and he won an award called 'The Paul Kitchen Award' for his work. The award recognises the best research project produced during the past calendar year. I urge you to also join if you have interest in the history of Ice Hockey Internationally. sihrhockey.org/2020/home/index.cfmThe SIHR is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the history and preservation of ice hockey. Founded in 1991, the SIHR is made up of a diverse group of members from around the world, including historians, researchers, writers, and fans of the sport. It was on page nine of the Societies quarterly newsletter, top of second column seen here.
I have also received great help from Ben too and I advise you all to take a look at his hockey WIKI pages internationalhockeywiki.com/ihw/index.php?title=Main_Page for which he has gained this fantastic award. He never told me about mentioning me, just did it. Thank you, Ben.

QUESTION
When Panthers scored their final goal, did their (Manchester's) goalie go back into the net. It is assumed he didn't and the extra man for five skaters with no goalie was played in that final 14 seconds.

What is the point of all these new fancy stat features if we can’t get the basic GRS correct?

GRS note for Sunday 24/9/23 - League game v Manchester at home. Stoyanovic left the ice for 3 seconds near end of 2nd period for face off at Manchester's defensive zone prior to a further 3.05 at the end of the game. So his actual time on ice (TOI) is 56.52 and not 56.55 as penned.

SPORTS ERRORS
For all our complaints in Ice Hockey, its nice to see turmoil elsewhere for a change (Football) - over the Liverpool v Tottenham VAR incident. Quite ironic that in the World Cup of Rugby Union, I see Rugby's common sense prevail in the England v Samoa game. A try is scored and given, then AFTER the Samoan conversion is taken the ref is informed of a 'knock on' and the points for the try are taken off and play resumes.
I feel Ice Hockey also has some better points in it than football. It might not go in our favour at times but this latest fiasco in the premier league just shows it happens everywhere.

INSIGHT INTO A GAME RECORD SHEET What to look for. Apart from the titles of Competition, place, date, start time, attendance and game number which are self explanatory at the top of each sheet.. The sheet has two large portions for the Home then the Away team statistics including team line ups and how many players on the ice at the point of a goal being scored as well as who and when scored and if on a power or short handed play. A smaller part below at the bottom of the sheet denotes 'Game Summary' like period shots, penalty minutes, power play and short handed plays for both teams. 'Saves' detailing net minders saves as well as the 'Goalie Summary' for time on ice and goals scored against them. And, 'Goalie changes' for the start time and when a net minder returns to the ice after leaving. Flaws in a GRS Whilst most things are acceptable once the 'correct' detail has been added (sometimes changes are made post game). There are a few things people might not know as things confuse or don't seem to add up or even show. The main one we statisticians hate is the use of the 'Goalie Changes' section at the bottom right which is not fit for use. Basically because the detail does not submit when a net minder leaves the ice. So you can't actually see those times, thus any errors that 'may' occur can't be seen to be corrected. ie) the 'end of game' time on ice in the 'goalie summary' actually being correct for the game. Bar, adding up shots on goal and penalties from a game and NOT transmitting that correctly to the bottom of the sheet, ie) human error. We hope to be reading a GRS easily and understanding what's gone on in a game.. Yet, some 'actions' may need to be known in order to 'read' a sheet well. Especially for a newcomer. eg) 1) If a player sits out a penalty for someone else (especially in the case for a minder) the last column would show who sat (seen in brackets) for the penalised player. 2) Some sheets differ from one era to the next and the IIHF may request or ask that changes are made to it. A sheet for example could (given space) allow for not only listing of who has scored, assisted or been given penalties at times. But also show the actual final count as to how many goals/assists or penalties have accumulated for each player. This is not on the sheets we see at present, space being the main factor. Only each players shots on goal tally is shown as a total, not goals - assists- penalties. However., other facts are not so easily taken on board.... Points to remember for a game going into penalty shots as one. In a game of 60 or 65 minutes maximum, net minders will have the shots and goals scored against them and saves made in their respective columns. However, if a game goes into overtime penalty shots. Rather than the winning goal (not always the last scored) being classed as a TEAM winning goal, it is awarded to a scoring player. Added to his own seasonal stats and noted on the GRS, but the shot on the net minder not being adjudged as a goal against him at that penalty shot moment, as it was outside the game play minutes of 65. So, the GRS will have a game play total for example of 28 shots on the losing side (equal to that of the winning teams shooters totals) BUT 29 shots would have been taken altogether considering that final game winning goal by a player awarded the goal in his personal stats. So it can look a little odd with 28 total shots seen in the 'game summary' column as a final stat yet one more was awarded and counted to a player and the eventual obvious score. But mistakes can happen here also. An example particularly seen in the GLASGOW sheet of the 15th October against a correct GRS of the Guildford game* on the 1st October...both going into a shoot out. But recorded differently. * what we deem as correct anyway (as followed from previous seasons). Whatever, the Glasgow/Guildford sheets are penned differently and there should be a format to stick by. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - More eloquently put by a friend who says..... In the Glasgow game, it appears that the normal-time GWG logic has been followed for the SO as well, with Lunsjö credited with the GWPS: www.eliteleague.co.uk/game/4037-gla-not 0-0 Miss Westin Michaud 0-0 Miss Darien Craighead 0-1 Goal Alexander Lunsjo 0-1 Miss Philippe Sanche 0-1 Miss Mathieu Lemay 0-1 Miss Gary Haden 0-1 Miss Adam Johnson 0-1 Miss Michael Pelech 0-2 Goal Hugo Roy *** A) No penalty shots (whether successful or unsuccessful) are included in the shot counts shown on the GRS. So the sum of the individual shot counts for each team, in any part of the statistical summary, should be exactly the same as the shot counts recorded for the relevant netminder. The shot and save counts for the netminders should reflect only the shots faced and saves made in regulation and overtime. B) The statistical anomaly in SO game recording is that the scorer of the GWG penalty shot is credited with the goal in his statistics but the shot he takes to score that goal is not recorded against the netminder in either individual or team statistics. Hence in the Guildford game McAdam is shown in all relevant sections as letting in 2 off 31 (not 3 off [31 + the number of (successful/GWG or unsuccessful) penalty shots he faced]). I would hope the Glasgow stats are subject to revision in this respect so that they align to the formula described for the Guildford game and the 2022/23 SO games. I think what we can say for sure – notwithstanding the mistakes and inconsistencies – is that, in shoot-outs, a) nothing is entered in Tracking, b) shots are not recorded on the GRS for either shooters or GKs, c) the only item formally recorded on the GRS and in the overall stats is the GWPS, which is credited to the scorer. (Lunsjo) It is anomalous, of course, that a PS goal is not linked to a shot – for all sorts of reasons – but at least if that’s the accepted and consistent way of doing it, we know where we stand (though of course it could lead to other inconsistencies). The formula adopted for the Guildford game is correct, or at least it follows the formula for all our League games involving a shoot-out last year. ****************************** Thanks David Parker Phew....(spik)

Tonight's game having been abandoned (because of the awful injury to Adam Johnson) means the match is thus void and no changes have been made to Nottingham's statistics.
Adam is our first concern now.
Edit: RIP Adam Johnson from an untimely death in the sport we all love.

With Nottingham withdrawing from the Challenge Cup leaving their incomplete group standings
Manchester have scored the requisite two goals needed (apparently) for continued CUP action, though losing 2-4 at Sheffield tonight. Thus qualify , instead of Dundee , for the quarter finals last seeded place of eight.
Indeed, from the seeded draw Sheffield play Manchester now in that quarter final round.

The very first domestic season for Nottingham was the 1946-47 schedule. I have heard stories of how the team suffered getting to games amid fog and snow that first time playing. This week on TV there is a programme about that wintertime probably worth a viewing to see what it was like. Think it's called ' The big snow of 47' and on channel 5 at 8pm New Year's Eve. Fife have just had a spell of 0 for 30 on the PP, over 11 completed games. They followed that with 5 for 8 in their last 2, including 4 for 6 vs Clan on NYE. Devils have scored a PPG in each of their last 4 games. Longest consecutive streak this year is Steelers, with 6 for 17 in their first 5 games.
