Quite happy with the D as a whole now, just need this last forward to be a bruiser and I think we will have a decent team

Looks a solid signing if not spectacular. Pleased he’s a reasonably big body who prioritises his own end of the ice which does give our defence the balance it needed. Certainly better than this time last year when we looking at this kind of signing and we got Lagrone.
Overall the D looks like an improvement on last year, though that’s not exactly setting the bar high. About on par with what Belfast have but not as good as Sheffield whose D this year looks a class above.

Nice to log in and see positive news about a signing without them being slated (yet).
I’ve altered my preferences such that I have to click to see someone’s messages. I suggest that anyone else that’s fed up of the needless negativity does likewise.
I think I’m right in saying Worksop has a S postcode. Would be delighted if they went to a team that also has that postcode.

Not sure it's as strong as the other big teams though

Can be hard to judge D men going on stats alone. Taylor Doherty and Aaron Thow looked good paper.
One reservation I have is 200+ ECHL games without a single call up to the AHL which is why I say not spectacular. Admittedly though my knowledge of American minor league hockey is very limited

Admittedly though my knowledge of American minor league hockey is very limited I wouldn’t worry about him not being called up, his role isn’t flashy so therefore would be harder to grab the attention of his AHL affiliate and the majority of AHL call ups are a result of injuries so could have been really unlucky to not have that opportunity presented to him

Looks a solid L-hand defenseman to round out the corp, and balanced L R this year as well.
Not quite sure where the Panthers got their leading the team in +/- last year from though?
ECHL.com has him a still respectable 3rd place on the Worcester team both last year and the year before from a quick glance at their stats centre.

In both years they only had 6 Dmen not on NHL contracts - one of which was their Captain. So I think he'd have been lucky to get a look in. That may even have been a reason for him looking abroad. That and the chance to play "post-season" for once

I’m glad that we’ve got an even split of left and right handers, we also appear to have a good balance of offensive and defensive dmen.
McGurty doesn’t have the flashiest of CV’s, no experience in AHL or high end euro leagues, but he played a lot of games for Worcester over the last two seasons, so should be able to cope with the regular season slog. He maintained a good +/- record and added quite a few assists last year as well.
On paper we look like we’ve improved on the back end, hopefully that turns out to be the case.

To be charitable, he had the best +/- of anyone who played the full season. Uncharitably, that’s a howler.

Looks a solid signing as others have said. I now work in Nottingham therefore I’m looking forward to this season. No more Saturday nights working in Lincoln.

Interesting reading that, good find. Hopefully he’s a bit of a defensive diamond

This team has been crying out for a defensive defenceman. He could be THAT rough diamond then

A very solid signing. Does his job consistently well. Good "team player" and someone who has always been appreciated by teammates and his various Coaches. Lots to like with this guy.
