'The NHL in the UK' is one of Stuart Latham's latest books. They generally might be the only book on some club sides that have played in the EIHL or lower leagues. I buy all of his books. We both advertise each others books when we publish and here is one that the fans here might be interested in as regards players from over the pond that have come to play here in the UK. Of interest is a Chronological order of players and I'd be interested to find out IF there are any missing from the list. The first three messages here will be followed by four more pages (posts) of players. Who might be the 2023 players from the last season please (for my own interest) as these are not noted here. The book consists of an introduction and written details of the NHL of course, when teams came over here to play with write ups and 'Elite prospects' website statistics regards those of have travelled. Players giving a history of recollections including Jamie Leach, Fred Perlini, Todd Bidner, Mike Blaisdell, Dody Wood. 203 pages with pictures. Details from Stuart latham63@sky.com of his numerous books. ISBN: 978-1-8384609-8-3 Most recent books are titled …History of Guildford, Ice Hoc. in Solihull, Hockey in Harringey, From Vikings to devils - Ice Hoc. in the Solent. 1) 2) 3)

Ex NHL players in the UK last season. Caruso Muse (maybe, he's listed for Carolina in 12-13 but 0 GPI, maybe he backed up a time or two?)
I think that might be it? (Happy to be corrected)

I can't see Jeff Heerema on the list.. he played in the NHL because he iced for Carolina when they were in Los Angeles in 2003.as I was there.. granted he only got 2 shifts I think

(Happy to be corrected) Jeremy Welsh also played 27 games in the NHL. Interestingly, Mike Caruso & Jeremy Welsh were the only players in the EIHL with any NHL game experience last season.

Of course… Interesting indeed. The EIHL is getting younger?

And, of course, the 5 players in the modern era who have gone the other way; played in the UK then gone on to make their NHL debuts. Wayne Cowley Pat Lefebvre Janne Niskala Doug Doull and Bobby Robins
One or two non-lockout players have gone NHL, UK, then back to the NHL Travis Brigley Chris Stewart
Question I'm not sure I know the answer to... Who was the last player to play at least 1 game in the NHL the season before coming to the UK?

Roman Tvrdon played 9 games for Washington Capitals in 2003/04 before playing for Panthers at the start of the 2004/05 season. Unsure if he was the last one to do so though.

Unusually, IIRC, the games he played were late in the season, not "cup of coffee early doors and then sent down" kind of thing?

From memory the Capitals brought in a lot of their AHL prospects from Portland towards the end of the season when it became pretty clear that they were not going to make the play-offs.

That year the league had Boynton, Mckenna, Belak, Cairns, Nichol, Davison, Moran etc. The next one had Beleskey, Miller, Bissonnette, Sestito etc.

Mel Anglestad did the same, a couple for the Caps in 03/04 (fun fact, he was the first player in NHL history to wear jersey #69) then joined Giants in 04/05.

John Purves, Panthers skipper 02/03, seven games with the Washington Capitals in the 90/91 season. Must've been a great player then, he was still pretty good when he got here. Serial IHL scoring leader.

Not to take the fun out of the game, but there is a tab on eliteprospects by which you can search NHL experience on each roster, season by season, if you're so inclined... www.eliteprospects.com/team/209/nottingham-panthers/experience/2003-2004/all?league=nhlMissing Panthers from the original list from the EIHL era. Netminder Tom Askey, seven games with Anaheim in 97-98, Panthers in 07-08. As mentioned earlier, Jeff Heerema, 32 games in total with St Louis and Carolina, Panthers in 10-12. Lynn Loyns 34 games in total with San Jose and Calgary, Panthers in 13-14. Matt Ryan, 12 games as an LA King, Panthers in 13-14. Petr Kalus, 11 games in total with Boston and Minnesota and an impressive four goals! Also two spells with Panthers. Joe Jensen, 6 games with Carolina and another 13-14 Panthers player. We had seven players with NHL experience over the course of that season. Colby Cohen, 3 games with Colorado and 14-15 with the Panthers. Juraj Kolink, 250 games in the show, 36 with the New York Islanders and 214 with Florida, he spent with 15-16 season with the Panthers. Kevin Quick, 6 games with Tampa Bay, also played the back end of the 15-16 season in Nottingham. Kristian Kudroc, 26 games with Tampa Bay and Florida, 16-17 at the fabulous NIC. Alexandre Bolduc, 65 games split between the Canucks and Coyotes, one season in Nottingham in 17-18. Jon Rheault played five games with Florida in 12-13, Panthers 17-19.
