All depends how the Brit pack is finished off but Jack in particular is a real dissapointment. Archie has bags of potential but probably still wasn't going to get a full time regular slot here. Would have needed to have been on a 2 way again. The 22 man squad would've really helped here.
Let's see how it all ends up, but i'd have taken Hopkins over Kelsall all day long.

Maybe they wanted to, given what Panthers are planning? You can't sign every Brit and expect them all to be happy?
Would you stay for less ice-time and less development? They both need proper minutes to develop, which it sounds like they wouldn't be guaranteed here, but will be at Blaze.
Who's said they will never play for Panthers ever again?

Thats certainly the key with Archie. He was never going to get a top 6 role. He's been offered full time EIHL so it's fair enough. We can however be a bit more critical of the Hopkins one. As a forward he'd have got regular minutes. He's already got enough talent to be on a set line. Add in his potential and for me he would've been better than Kelsall. |

Good luck to both of them. Need to be playing good minutes to improve as players, if they’re getting that then so be it, if we can’t offer it to them. Intrigued to see what our Brit make up will look like. Rumours of Perlini, obviously we’d need a Brit back up, I’d personally be looking to keep Ferrara; and assume last season just didn’t go to plan, as I think someone who can score like he did for the few years before us is invaluable and hopefully the new coach can get that out of him again! Can’t sign every Brit, so with the two mentioned above plus Myers from last year, I’m intrigued to see how we line up!

Or a rugby team full of prop forwards. It's equally pointless if Hopkins is as good as everyone thinks to have him play 4th line, 6 minutes a game, like he was this season. Management clearly think that he won't be a regular top 9 forward in the team they're putting together. Kelsall will almost certainly play 4th line minutes, kill penalties, and fill in when needed (as we know he can do) while chipping in with 7 goals or so in the league. Which, the facts are, is exactly 7 more than Hopkins scored last season.* Every team needs a player like Kelsall, who can do the above. Horses for courses. Is Hopkins a great prospect? Yes, of course, anyone can see that. Is this stage in his development a good fit for the Panthers next season? It appears not. Will he be back for the Panthers in coming seasons? I certainly hope so. And a top 9 forward at least. *This is no knock on Hopkins, just the bare facts. |

We have limited space because of non-homegrown chaos and players will want to move on.
Here’s hoping typical decent Brits we are aware of can be encouraged to Nottingham.
Only Myers was a regular Brit with years under the belt for us. Only because others returning like Mr B will we see such prolific stats well beyond import players who may stay two or three years. We need quality players to re-sign like Belfast and Cardiff’s.

Great move for them both, great move for the Blaze, it’s great for young GB players to get more ice time in the EIHL, and a great shame the Panthers have lost them. But it’s all short term contracts, they can be brought back when they’ve had a couple of seasons away.
I’m sure after last years mess that this will mean Pacha will be pushing his recruitment to a higher level and better thought out.

Coventry seem to have the greater need. They've lost Venus and Forbes, and signed Hopkins and Hazeldine. Panthers have replaced those two with Betteridge and Tetlow.

If they want to come back 😉 I think there's a case for putting faith in a young player at this stage (particularly one who seems to have a reasonably high ceiling), allowing for their inevitable mistakes, to keep them within the club. Show them a bit of trust now and perhaps they're more likely to stick with you when they reach potential, and the other big clubs (the more successful clubs?) look their way? We'll see I guess. In the short term I suppose it depends what happens with the last couple of skating slots for Brits (I assume we'll have a reserve netminder plus 5, if import rules are unchanged?). If Perlini can be coaxed back, and maybe a second go for Ferrara, we'd look quite good for next year at least. |

The All-Time lists for any category have few high up on those stats. Myers the leader of Brit challenges to top 20 players. Though Betteridge will be able to succeed on that front looking forward. |

As Bobness has pointed out it’s about players filling roles. If the Brit numbers are to drop to 5 as rumoured then that leaves no spot for either on a full time basis.
If Tetlow had not been re-signed then Archie would have been able to slot in as the 6th dman but the people in charge feel that Tetlow is better right now. Hopkins isn’t going to grow playing on the 4th line, whereas that roles suits Kelsall. Good luck to them and hopefully we can bring them back in the future.
Ultimately though I feel the league is shooting itself in the foot with the British players. We shouldn’t have come away from 22 man rosters and we shouldn’t be going with 5 Brit spots

Sorry to see young talent depart, but equally it sounds like Tetlow and Betteridge are more experienced, tried and tested players. If we also sign Perlini and they all play well and we are winning, I can’t imagine there will be complaints.
Both can come back in future years though, just as the above 3 are doing (assuming Perlini comes).

Indeed, With Kelsall, Betteridge and Tetlow signed and if you have a Brit back up NM then that only leaves 1 spot for a Brit.

Just with a game day maximum of 20 and being allowed to ice 15 imports on game day it pretty much guarantees only 5 Brits will ice, unless you've got a Conway etc Maximum roster size for the season is 29 players including 2-way so theoretically could sign more than 5 Brits. I'm with you on the 22 man game day roster thing. Why not keep it at that but limit imports still at 15. I get that it would make the teams that can financially afford to have more Brits better off but would also encourage Brit development. There aren't many leagues were homegrown players will likely only number 25% of game day players at best 😏 |
