www.nottinghampost.com/news/nottingham-news/boss-nottinghams-motorpoint-arena-unveils-7437911A report from Nottinghamshire live this morning getting the thoughts of the arenas Chief Executive. A lot of pipe dream stuff with no real plan, but a few interesting lines regarding hockey and the Panthers. "On top of this Mr Ingham would like to see a third ice pad built, as an extension to the arena which would boost the potential of the Nottingham Panthers ice hockey team, as well as a conference centre and a snazzy hotel for artists and guests. " He talks about perhaps building on the old bus station site across the street. Do we think he is implying Panthers playing games on a different pad? Or do we think he's talking availability for training etc?

This will take 20 years to get pushed through 🤣

It'll never happen (well, never say never, but practically very unlikely) because you have to find somewhere for nearly 250+ buses to park, be fuelled and washed and fettled, near the City centre. And a new site wuld probably have to be at least twice the size to allow for new regulations on vehicle movements. Those kinds of sites don't really exist at the moment. Certainly they don't exist where any developer has "land earmarked for huge bus depot" written next to it. That's the biggest stumbling block for this "plan". It's long been in the City's plans to get that block redeveloped, but there isn't anywhere for the bus companies to go to. Dead in the water.

That coupled with the fact the arena is haemorrhaging money.

Not sure of the benefit a 3rd pad will bring financially unless they think they can squeeze more public sessions or maybe rec/junior hockey at reasonable hours to make some money.
Although this is all pie in the sky. Doubt we have to be worried about anything happening this decade.

Although this is all pie in the sky. Doubt we have to be worried about anything happening this decade. You are correct there. The City council haven't even got enough money to finish knocking the Broadmarsh down, let alone doing anything with the site, and that's surely more pressing.

This has been talked about for years and still will be. As much as I love the arena and am glad that it was built. It should have been built on the old boots Island site. Then there would have been plenty of room to have had multiple ice pads, carpark, conference centre, hotel ect. They could of renovated the old railway warehouses and had the hotel, bars and restaurants all in it. It's fine saying you could have similar to Liverpool but having been to several conferences there it is a very big site. A lot bigger than the present arena site and bus depot.
I am not blaming the council either as I believe at the time the council started planning the arena the Boots Property Division owned the Island site and had their own plans for it.

Not sure of the benefit a 3rd pad will bring financially Why settle for three ice pads when you could have four...

That was part of a shared stadium for forest and county if I remember.. lots of land there. The arena was due to hold more than 7500 as well.. it pretty much never got past blueprint stage!
