Just been asked this on (say it quietly) another forum. Thought it might spark some interesting debate, and pass the time while we wait for the top line wingers to be signed. To start, on balance, Janssen. OOAA.

Are we talking Panthers time here or overall career?

No debate to be had for me. Janssen brought energy, was in the face of the opposition whenever he could. A real spark plug.
McGratton had 1 big moment and not a lot else. Of the 2 I only ever questioned McGrattons place on the team. Too many times it'd kick off, roughing, gloves to face of our players and he'd be leant on the boards watching it unfold. Clearly hard as nails, probably a better hockey player with his stick, but spent to much time looking like he wasn't bothered.

Cam was head and shoulders above 'big ern'
He knew his role and wasn't trying to be someone he wasn't unlike BM .... He seemed a genuine nice guy and indeed was on the times I spoke to him ...big ern had spats on social media which did nothing to his credibility.. and he was a plastic Liverpool fan!
Enough said. Janssen wins hands down

Janssen offered way more to the team all round and I think in terms of his playing ability it was a year too long for McGrattan. I do think though that McGrattan was one of a few players in recent years to have actually bought into the Panthers v Steelers rivalry

Cam all day long then. He clearly wanted to be here & bought in to the team ethic, didn't treat it as a wind down.
McGrattan was the more all round player though. Cam could do one role only.

Janssen all day long. He did his job perfectly. He was also a big influence on the team. As Corey put it, we lost a lot more than just Cam doing his job on the ice. He kept other players accountable. Especially Laurence who was a different player when Cam was on the team.
McGrattan was a better all round player and put up a lot of points in open play, but didn't do what he was bought in to do.

I’m taking Janssen, however, I do feel McGrattan was on a hiding to nothing in terms of coming to Nottingham after Cam had left.
For me the only similarities between the two was that they were both willing to drop the gloves and that’s where it ended.
Cam was an excitable and energetic person both on and off the ice, a character that everybody loved. Big Ern seemed more reserved in comparison (who wouldn’t) and not as aggressive in terms of style of play. Cam would hit like a train, had defenders looking over their shoulders, disrupted play and got into people’s faces. Once McGrattan got going he turned out to be an ok goal scorer and he was fairly composed in the offensive zone, he had a lot more end product then Janssen, plus I’d say McGrattan was the better fighter.
If McGrattan had played with the energy and hunger that Cam had then I think he would probably have never left the NHL.
