There seem to be multiple posts about this across a few threads so I thought of starting this just to bring it all together. Mods, feel free to delete if you want to keep it as it is though.
My thoughts, the season is screwed. Clubs simply cannot survive without paying crowds.

They could call a halt for a few weeks but then they'll have to pay players without revenue. And extend the season which means more revenue needed. And worry about the same happening next month. So they could play the games behind closed doors and hope they generate enough revenue from webcasts and Government handouts to finish the season on time. And / or scrap the CUP / playoffs if they run out of time. Or they could have scrap the existing season and another mini league, played out of Nottingham, and bring all the players down here. Franchises could join or not, players free to be drafted by whoever.

Continue as we are, scrap the cup to take some of the load off.

We won't have an uninterrupted season and I predict that bums on seats are going to fall even further around the league

Todd Kelman said last year the Devils couldn't survive without bums in seats even with their cushy rink deal, it's hard to believe the Panthers or Steelers could considering their arena overheads, player costs etc never mind the smaller clubs. All time record of over 106,000 new cases just announced today, even if Omicron infections are milder it still won't keep folks from heading to the A+E just to be sure, putting a further strain on the nurses and Doctors yet Boris plays politics to let everyone have their Christmas. What happens to any schedule after Boxing Day if the surge of infections keep climbing ? The answer is clear, it's toast.

Boris is damned if he did lock down and damned if he doesn’t,the country seems pretty evenly split between what people want. He could get Christmas out the way then fully lock it down from end Dec until end January, the trouble is unless other countries do the same it’ll just come back again. For such as the EIHL,they’re just pushing the inevitable end down the line and teams will end up owing the fans games again.

EIHL has really put a rod on it's own back playing so many cup games to knock a whopping one team out of it. Clan are only a couple of games behind the Blaze as a result of that.
No matter what happens with this season, it sounds to me that the cup either needs shelved for a couple of years, or at the very least reformed so it's significantly curtailed in the fixtures it chews up in the calendar.

I guess we will know the season is in jeopardy if players start leaving, either just going home or to employment elsewhere

Although I agree that the CC is a nonsense, both in current format and frankly in its need to exist at all for a 10 team league, presumably it's there because teams need a certain number of home games to make the clubs viable at all? Could they have run a reduced calendar schedule over the same period of time, and not put clubs to the wall in the process?

Fife to remain in Covid protocol after more players test positive so all their Christmas games postponed.

Clan postpone both their home Christmas fixtures due to not being able to have fans in the arena. Possibly more postponements to come later for them too.

I was one of us worrying of this as the postponements came in.
NOT saying this after the horse has bolted but, crikey me, that CUP could have been arranged better and even the league games reduced in number to get it finished earlier. If the covid had not hit like this the play-offs could then have been arranged to cover the remainder of this season to bring the much needed number of games per season back up to what was suitable for clubs. No forward thinking at all, just bust a gut to get the money in.
Play out the remaining Cup games as there are only 9-11 games left. Pity we can't mathematically even out the games played versus each other to complete a league sooner.
