Since an increasing number of posts have referenced the ongoing howlers and lack of copy editing on the Elite League Website I thought I'd start a thread for our favourites as they appear. Maybe, eventually, we'll have a winner... Or some kind of quality control

Wednesday's offering (13/10/21) which is still unchanged as of 17.51 today two days later: "The Devils end the CHL with one win on Game Day 2 at home to *Lugano*." Lugano were in an entirely different group! www.eliteleague.co.uk/article/1581-devils-defeated-in-final-chl-clashI take no credit for being the first to spot this one but it was too good not to include in the running. Credit goes to ashfieldpanther Feel free to add your own.

Also from today: when you don't know how to spell Sheffield so you hedge your bets and spell it two different ways in consecutive sentences. "Sheffield require 6 goals for 1500 goals on the road in league games *Shefield* require 11 goals for 4000 goals in all EIHL competitions" It's not like any basis spell check package would know it right? Even our own forum highlights it as wrong when I paste it in. #Basic www.eliteleague.co.uk/article/1591-week-4-s-potential-milestones

13/10/21 Scott Pooley added Lukko’s fourth just past the halfway point of the game before the Devils LAUGHED a fightback.

I won't list them all but many a wrong statistic or lack of them on the site. GRS post game changes are regularly made, and news is posted of this weekly to supporters, yet Individual player numbers have not changed on the site , thus incorrect figures a plenty and that's just our team that I am checking upon, multiply that by a possible nine more team?

16/10/21 The Panthers got off to an excellent start and were two up inside the opening five minutes. Christophe Boivin cut across the slot and beat Barry Brust with an excellent to-shelf finish 65 seconds into the game. At 4:51 it got better for the visitors with Ollie Betteridge tipping Taylor Doherty's shot from the blueline past a helpless Brust to make it 2-0. Not heard of a "to-shelf finish" before. www.eliteleague.co.uk/article/1597-steelers-come-from-behind-for-third-ot-win

“This incident has been added to his record for the remainder of the 21/22 season and will be classified as a repeat offender.”
Haas’s incident will be classified as a repeat offender?

17/10/21 Re Panthers....“Their one league game to date was a home loss to Coventry” Err wrong they’ve played TWO games to date beating Dundee in the other one. 🙄

No goals in a tight third period saw meant that the game went to the bonus period and after some good pressure, including Marc-Olivier Vallerand hitting the crossbar, Tanner Eberle forced a turnover and blasted past Carr to give the Steelers the extra point. www.eliteleague.co.uk/article/1597-steelers-come-from-behind-for-third-ot-winI know this might seem petty but it just shows how many mistakes are made in such a short period of writing. I'm very quilty of this but I'm not part of a big concern.

The scoreboard is showing Flyers winning 7-0, presumably this is a mistake?

My eyes, the burning... Eberle blasted past Carr himself? Shouldn’t he do that with the puck? It’s word salad…

Eberle blasted past Carr himself? Shouldn’t he do that with the puck? It’s word salad… Yep, you can get away with the above if you've mentioned the puck at any point in the sentence for another event. Given it hasn't been mentioned then it's a mistake & again, terribly lazy writing.

The words of someone in a hurry, who doesn't take literally 60 seconds to read it back slowly before pressing that "Publish" button. We have a "grammar howler club" at work. The BBC are brilliant at it.

"The Fife Flyers earned their first win of the season with a dominating performance against the Manchester Storm in q" www.eliteleague.co.uk/article/1605-flyers-dominate-to-earn-first-winThat's it. That's the first line of the website report. FGS, I'd expect a year 8 school project to be more professional than that. Does anyone check what it actually looks like when uploaded? Isn't that "Web Publishing 101"? See also "Period two was arguable the Flyers' best of the season so far as they ran in five unanswered goals against a Storm team that couldn't get anything going." Good possessive apostrophe, bad spelling of arguably. And in more clunky sentence news... "Only 4:21 had been played when Jacob Benson gave the hosts the lead with Scott Simmonds sitting for hooking, a shot from the blueline being stopped by Ginn and Benson jumping on the rebound to force it through." Ouch. Finally... "Imants Lescovs scored 4:17 from the final buzzer to round of an impressive and much-needed win for the Flyers." Tremendous effort.

“24 hours later we'll be in Manchester for the Storm's re-arranged home clash against the Dundee - the Stars looking for their first league points of the season.”
Shooting fish in a barrel. Like it’s been written, then edited but not checked at all.

This thread has mileage. Or in EIHL speak, mile age.

All are possible.

"The Shefifeld Steelers may also have half an eye on IIHF Continental Cup action this weekend."
Missed that one. Even my web browser while posting this comment flags "Shefifeld" up as potentially erroneous.

Today's offering of randomly compounded words is joint: "Guildford could end the night joint-top of the table with Sheffield were they to take two points, while the Panthers can climb from fifth to joint-second if they can overcome the Flames in 60 minutes. Both teams have one loss in league action until now." www.eliteleague.co.uk/article/1611-panthers-and-flames-set-for-midweek-battleBonus points for the clunky until now final sentence. And missing comma to make the subclause

Panthers site - Ollie looks ahead to Guildfrod Where they turn midweek into mid-week as well in the text version as well. Seems everyone is at it with false compound words 🙄
