What else does he do for a living? Cos he'll earn feck all there I don't think we need to know, but it appears that he's moved on and retired from professional hockey. Whitley is barely semi-pro, the way I see this signing is just Farms joining his local rec team for a bit of fun on the weekends.

Key phrase:-
"After moving to the area with his family"
That'll be why.

Sometimes, the answer is “Because they want to”. Farms at half fitness will be a weapon in Whitley. (No disrespect to Whitley intended)

I heard some time ago he'd moved up that way and was playing club cricket this summer. Think his fmaily life is more important to him than hockey, whatever is going on. I believe he is training to do something different entirely. Playing that standard likely allows him to work and do this part time.
I'm sure he's going to do ridiculous things at that level.

He’s joined the police force up there. Does that make him Bobby Farmer now then?

I think David Longstaff and his Whitley team might be a little miffed at be termed a rec team. By Elite standards I might agree but they are somewhat higher up the hockey ladder than a rec team, in my opinion as an old gnarled hockey buff with just a few years around the hockey scene.

By Elite standards I might agree but they are somewhat higher up the hockey ladder than a rec team, in my opinion as an old gnarled hockey buff with just a few years around the hockey scene. And they are free to be offended. But I don't think I ever specifically claimed they were a rec team, in fact I described them as "barely semi-pro", which I think is pretty accurate and only slightly harsh.
The rec team comparison I made comes from the reasonable assumption that Farmer isn't joining the Warriors because he always dreamt of playing for Longstaff and earning little to no money. But because they are his new local team, he won't have to train much and can still enjoy playing games on the weekend. One could even describe playing for the Warriors as recreational activity for Farmer...

Barely semi pro is a more accurate description of hockey at NIHL 1, therefore I may have misconstrued the actual meaning of the post. I do not watch Elite but did the follow earlier equivalent of this level of hockey in the old barn. I do have an interest in junior hockey in Nottingham particularly the Nottingham Lions where at present we have a decent crop of players who may break into hockey at Elite level in years to come. A number of teams are certainly interested in some of these up and coming players.
