Honestly thought Panthers were playing the perfect away game, defending well and capitalising on Devils mistakes, Devils came out hard in the first and we just soaked it up letting them tire themselves out. It all fell apart after the 2+10 and Devils first goal not long after. Hate to say it but I think that poor call swung it in Devils favour last night.

Totally disagree that Panthers matched the Devils. Garnett stood on his head tonight. Devils were without Richardson and Faryna. Thanks, Hannah. Savage 😮

That 2+10 call changed the game and Panthers fell apart badly which is worrying. Credit to Cardiff for coming back and taking the chance, but losing Hughes for 12 minutes to a wrong call cost Panthers those 2 points !

Personnally I think having the most possession, and outshooting the Panthers swung it our way. With a bit of indiscipline thrown in, Panthers are a very good team, and will be a very entertaining team to watch, and fans will definately get their money’s worth, big, strong, fast, and skilful, Garnet looks very good after last nights performance. However and I mean this with total respect, and I know it’s early days, but I think we just have the edge on you guys ( yes I know I would say that) Panthers Devils games are going to be the highlight of my season, there’s nothing better than edge of seat hockey, and our results are going to be finely balanced. Giants also are going to be entertaining, Sqeelers are looking pretty poor, wonder why, would love to see Storm, Clan etc stronger. But it’s you guys that are going to light up our gaff, oh and nice singing by your travelling fans of the Anthem.

Last night was tough to take but it is a learning curve for the team, and probably Rich. They now know the standard of officiating in the league and have seen how gullible and stupid refs can be.
I very rarely call the refs but last night was ridiculous, they wrongly called the boarding on Hughes, Blood embellished twice, first for the trip on Doty and then for the chest-push by Hendo and the refs bought every bit of it. Tough guy my backside...
The positives from last night were that we competed with the devils and our work rate was very good. I don’t believe that they were better than us, the reason that they won the game was due to our sloppy play in our own zone and the officials not allowing us to build up any pressure. Both teams are very, very close imo.
We were always going to lose at some point, it is tough to take in these circumstances but the lads can keep their heads high after a good performance. The best thing is they have the perfect opportunity to put it right today!

After last night, I fell confident saying that Cardiff, Belfast and ourselves will be the teams to watch.
Losing a game can actually put you in a better footing. You want your team to dislike losing more than love winning. That’s my mantra anyway

I must say the Cardiff commentators are pretty fair on the whole, but I love that they literally watch a replay of Henderson's pushing Blood in the chest (followed by his Tom Daly impression) and then call it a punch to the face! The Cardiff players were falling over at the slightest touch. I do hope that "simulation" isn't going to get to be a regular thing. It was really beginning to annoy me.

Appears the general concensus from the correctly opinionated Panthers fans is we were robbed of my 0-16 prediction by dodgy reffing & play acting supposed tough guys.
I'm writing to my local mp over this travesty.

Blood KNEW what he was doing? Would u lose blood to doty for 5mins fighting or even roughing? No you wouldn't the guy is a class player unlike doty.
Yes some calls were dodgy in our favour but so we're some in your favour in the first 2 periods. It's hockey it's life.
We won get over it.

I do have to laugh at some of the delusional Devils fans on the Inferno claiming that they dominated virtually the entire game and it was only luck & Garnett that prevented them from overwhelming us... from my POV, that was a close game between two very good teams, and the end result could have gone either way. Quite frankly, I thought that both teams deserved at least a point out of it - oh well.
Lots of pressure from both sides, but for the first two periods Cardiff just couldn't break through, and you could tell that they were getting more and more frustrated. Both netminders were doing sterling work (where are the Devils fans now who were slagging Bowns off for 'obviously' not being good enough after their CHL losses?) and lots of good action up front. We didn't help our own cause with all those multiple icings in the second... how to tire yourselves out at no cost to the opposition!
At the start of the third, I was thinking to myself that the next goal would decide it - kill Cardiff off or give them renewed energy. Unfortunately I was right...
I think the loss was down to a combination of factors. A loss of concentration on our part virtually gifted Cardiff that first goal (well worked on their part, but it never should have got that far!) and that re-energised them. We got a bit more sloppy, were on a bit of a downward slope, they were on the up... added to that some poor discipline from us AND some play-acting from them AND some poor officiating gave them more advantage than they should have had. And it went a bit downhill from there.
I'm obviously disappointed (it's a ruddy long trip to make to come back with zero points!) but I'm not completely downhearted. Better a set of circumstances like that happen at the start of the season when the team (and coach) can learn from it and avoid for the rest of the season. It was a tight result, it was an away game (at least we haven't lost at home yet) and it would appear that both teams will be serious challengers for honours this season. Plus overall it was simply a damned good game of hockey.
Onwards and upwards...

Although you could have been forgiven for wondering about that last night, as it seemed they were outraged over every single hit by a Panthers player... nearly as bad as the MK Snowflakes! Thought they liked physical hockey in Cardiff?

Come on Shaggy, you know we love our physical play in Cardiff, our teams have usually had a few tough guys, most fans see hits in a different way, usually the away teams are dirty, and the home teams are angels, that’s been that way for donkeys years. Some great clashes still to come between us, and long may it continue.

Henderson had no reason to push or punch blood over, the puck was gone as you can see from the highlights on twitter. So that's his fault not ours we got the pp.
Also hughes elbow were up in benti face so that was an obvious 2mins not 2+10.
It was a close game could have went either way but you guys just never turned up for the last period.

For such a supposed tough team a few of the Devils players love chucking themselves on the ice. I’ll say again, the Panthers were getting absolutely nothing from the officials in the third period. The Panthers didn’t help themselves but the refs had an influence on the outcome.

Absolutely... to an extent. But in all my years of going to away games in Cardiff - first in the WNIR (damn, but I miss that place!) and then the Big Blue Tent - I have never once heard such a large proportion of the home crowd getting their nappies in a twist about every single hit by an away player - including hits that only the most blinkered homer could conceivably regard as anything other than business as usual. Honestly - it was almost as bad as my trip to MK last season when I was sure they were going to have to stop play to clear the ice of all the dummies being spat out by the home fans! Seriously - your lot need to get a grip, really they do. I'll drink to that... My first visit to IAW... nice place. Decent sight-lines, friendly staff, nothing to complain about at all apart from the total lack of mobile signal and the fact that the arena wifi was spotty at best. That needs work... other than that, you've got yourselves a good home there now.
