Some fresh ideas would be most welcome. I'm pretty sick of seeing Steelers and Devils be clinical on the PP in the NIC and Panthers be well, pants. Well, that's what it's felt like, anyway. It seems a constant thing that Panthers have had a poor power play... Mmmm i have an idea why but I’m going to keep quiet. 😉

Looking forward to seeing what the the new coach does with special teams Some fresh ideas would be most welcome. I'm pretty sick of seeing Steelers and Devils be clinical on the PP in the NIC and Panthers be well, pants. Well, that's what it's felt like, anyway. I was going to check on the EIHL site, but I absolutely hate the new look EIHL site with a passion. No stats from prior years, far too much dead space on screen, and the header bar with links to all the teams' home pages is gone. A massive step backwards. Surprised no-one's commented on here? Yep the new EIHL website is crap ! Bring back the old one, that was pretty good.

Let’s be honest, 20% isn’t a bad powerplay really is it. It’s not a fantastic powerplay, but it’s not bad. Other than Cardiff’s at 28.5% the rest are alright.
Granted it would be a lot worse actually playing in the NHL, but comparative % would put us 10th out of 31. Golden Knights were 18.5% in 10th place.
Anything 20% and above is good. 25% above is brilliant.
That’s not to say it can’t improve though.

What's interesting to me is the variation between opponents (league games only): vs Stars: 0 of 10 = 0.000 vs Steelers: 2 of 27 = 0.074 vs Flyers: 1 of 10 = 0.100 vs Capitals: 1 of 7 = 0.143 vs Storm: 3 of 19 = 0.158 vs Clan: 2 of 12 = 0.167 vs Flames: 2 of 11 = 0.182 vs Giants: 8 of 34 = 0.235 vs Devils: 9 of 36 = 0.250 vs Lightning: 4 of 11 = 0.364 vs Blaze: 7 of 18 = 0.389 vs Gardiner: 4 of 39 = 0.103 Vs Erhardt: 19 of 97 = 0.196 vs Patton: 16 of 59 = 0.271 It looks like there's a bit of feast and famine between opponents and conferences. Biggest example being Coventry where 19% of our powerplay goals in the entire 52 game league campaign came in our 4 games against them. Additionally if you mostly went to Steelers games then our powerplay was positively embarrassing!

That being said, if you score on 1/5 powerplays is day you’d be relatively happy. You’d want more/better, but the perception of our powerplay being bad isn’t quite accurate in my opinion. It might not have been overly inspiring, at times it might have been downright dull and limp, but on the whole, it wasn’t bad.

Someone posted on here a couple of years or so ago *, with actual stats on our powerplay that season and, I think, the season before. Much to the surprise of many of us - myself included - the hard stats were that the PP was nowhere near as bad as we all thought. It was a bit of an eye-opener, really. I think a lot of it is basic, and very understandable, misperception. If the team score a goal on the powerplay, we tend to remember it as a goal... not necessarily as a powerplay goal. If the team fail to score on the powerplay, we tend to remember it as a failed powerplay. So when we come to think about the team's powerplays... we're more likely to remember the failures than the successes. * I can't remember who or when!

Personally I always thought our power play under Neilson was okay and the stats seem to back that up. I think the fact that we only had an okay power play under Neilson (apart from the grand slam year) meant that instead of fans seeing it as an okay power play, over time their opinions started to worsen to the point where fans consider it to be poor when the stats don’t back it up.

I see Lackowicz is up with the big boy and not languishing on the 4 line thats great to see! If he performs im happy. But going forward he has been poor for a few years. All his passing ability seemed to just dry up one day. Hope he finds it back, coz there was a time he looked like he'd be one of the best brit playmakers.

Last season, Panthers went 39/196 on the PP, whilst being 188/236 on the PP. All bar the shouting, PP was 20%, PK was 80%. 2017-18 EIHL season, that was basically bang average. All this talk of a "rubbish" PP is just that. Sadly, it's not backed up by the facts, inconvenient though that may be.
PP was marginally better away from home, PK marginally better at home.

For Home games powerplay Panthers played 34 games, 130 oppertunities , scored 21 goals, 4 against, scoring 16.2% plumb last.
For away games Powerplay Panthers played 35, 112, 25 and 3....22.3% and 3rd best.
For all games Powerplay Panthers played 69, 242, 46 and 7....19% for 8th best.
When you judge as 'special teams play'....with PP/PK and thus an overal ranking...we are placed HOME 12th, AWAY 4th and a combined 9th place. Therefore not so rosey. I have the stats if anyone wants them.
