Amazing what happens when you have a proper coach who doesn't neglect the back end of his team.!! Hughes/olsen/Lepine.! Wow I wouldn't be surprised if Lepine had made contact here. he was on the verge of signing a couple of years ago infact the announcement day had already been penned in to coincide with a meeting or quiz night (can't quite remember )lepine pulled out at the last minute literally due to a good offer. Panthers were gutted to say the least.

Great signing by you guys, loved Lepine last time he was over here, big body, tough guy, who can play. You guys must be well chuffed with your signings so far, New Coach, fresh ideas, it’s looking good for Panther fans.

Awesome signing. I do agree that we need to be carefull not to set the expectation too high though. As people have said, the game has moved on. No doubt he'll be a great addition and i'm sure a great leader too (Now favourite for the C?). I think this time around we will see less big hitting and almost certainly less fighting, however I'd suggest he will be an even better hockey player/puck mover tham when he left.

Jesus our d is going to be a bloody monster add doty to that and we will have a very rough team. Tetlow is going to be thrilled surely to have so many good quality to learn from.

Blimey - didn't see that coming! OK, let's get the standard disclaimers out of the way first. The league has moved on & improved since Lepine was last here, he may not have improved much since we saw him last, will he fit in with the new roster, Chernomaz is going to have to use him right, yadda yadda yadda... All of the above are legitimate points, and can't be summarily dismissed... but I for one am not going to lose sleep over them. They are possibilities, nothing more - and fairly low-chance ones at that IMO. Gui Lepine is a bloody good D-man who can hit like a freight train... best kind, IMO. He's fitting into a defence which is already looking like it could be just the kind of brick-wall setup that will help any netminder... and which looks tough, plain and simple. This is not going to be a blue-line corps which is very welcoming to anyone in a different jersey. Oh dear, I may weep... With any luck, Lepine has gained some good AHL experience since we last saw him and is going to come back a more polished product (although we don't mind just a few rough edges here or there, do we? ). Looks to me like he will fit right in to the style of team that Chernomaz is building, and I for one am liking the look of that. Doty is not going to be a slouch up front, and Farmer is more than capable of getting into the thick of it... but if we can sign a couple of monster-hit physical forwards as well, the 2018-19 Panthers team is going to give physios around the Elite League a lot of sleepless nights. Happy days...

Panthers team certainly looks a entertaining team, and entertaining is what it’s all about. Looking forward to these guys coming down to Cardiff, value for money for sure. With one league now it’s looking like it’s going to be one entertaining season, let’s hope so.

GARNETT GOSPEL
IMPORT - HUGHES OLSEN - LEE LEPINE - BILLINGSLEY
IMPORT - IMPORT - RHEAULT KOVACS - IMPORT - PERLINI FARMER - IMPORT - IMPORT LACHOWICZ - DOTY - BETTERIDGE
Roster looks quality so far and potentially league winning and the top line forwards are yet to come. Not counting my chickens just yet but theres great cause for optimism at the moment. Would like to see a really creative dman for the final slot. Someone in the Cody Wild mould with real puck handling ability who can run the powerplay

Someone in the Cody Wild mould with real puck handling ability who can run the powerplay Yes it’s certainly looking a very solid and tough D. But with the size of them, creativity, mobility, and speed could be the only possible concerns. The last import D needs to be a mobile skilful point getter.

I see your point but i'm not too concerned about creativity or mobility at the moment. They may be big but they are still young. Hughes is supposed be a good skater according to the statement on the OS and i doubt Olsen would have played that many games if he couldn't skate well and his numbers are comparable to Sauve so should offer some offence and Billingsley also adds somewhat too but i agree the last dman should be a point scorer

I have never been too sure about players returning to us after playing elsewhere, but I think Lepine will do well for us. Welcome back Gui.

On the OS he's described as someone who provides bullets for others to score. He's not going to be as effective if he's on a line with Farmer or Doty or whoever. Besides then lines will chop and change throughout the season anyway so nothing will be set in stone

Very pleased to have Lepine back. Was a big part of a very successful period for us. Think we won 7 of the 9 trophies available during his 3 seasons.

Great signing, he can hit and fight but he was also an outstanding defenceman last time he was here who went on to better things when he left us. I know praising Corey Neilson isn’t welcomed by some around here but he deserves a lot of credit for the development of Lepine. He took an enforcer who was bound for Hull and turned him into one of the best defenceman in the league, something which often gets overlooked.

Both faces of our coach of 10 years there in a nutshell... Imho CN did as Jono points out have "projects" such as Richardson now in Cardiff and of course i believe he helped Lepine with his AHL career but he also tried to turn Lee into an offensive D man and did appear to like to "tinker" with his lines in the same period let alone games in most of the time epic failure...

Both faces of our coach of 10 years there in a nutshell...... Indeed. Good at some things, terrible at others. I'm sure that, contrary to what has been said, even Neilson's most voracious critics can and do recognise his strengths and acknowledge them. It's such a shame that criticising his failings is equated by some to not being able give praise where it is due. It's a cheap jibe and adds nothing to the conversation.
