Lots of people commenting on taking silly penalties but many were soft and I felt were not being called evenly. Team did well to keep cool.... One thing we will have to do is to ignore Connolly and Rutherford, Rutherford in particular is a wind up merchant, will over dramatise to try and draw a penalty or a reaction. It’s all to play for now, we have great chance.

I agree with you about the penalties being soft but when the refs are calling the soft ones we keep putting ourselves in the position for them to be called.

It’s all to play for now, we have great chance. Neilson called both of them out in his post game interview saying they play without honour, that’s the polite way of putting it. I’ll always remember Farmers’s cross check to Rutherford’s face, he didn’t have to milk that one.

I wonder if that was Belfast's big chance? Are they happy with the result? Think the Panthers will be the happier of the two teams. Belfast can’t be happy with a one goal lead, especially from 3-0 up.

The opening 15 minutes were unacceptable. We were out fought, out hit and out played. It wasn’t the fault of the referees it was our own indiscipline putting ourselves in those positions. Throughout hebrest of the game we were also guilty of not being strong enough clearing the crease especially leading to the 4th goal.
All being said we have demonstrated we are capable of the grit and determination to get into the right areas to make things happen, this was especially evident at the end of the first and start of the second so we have to keep that intensity up for the whole 2nd leg.
Being within a goal from the way we started is a decent enough position to be in, we are still in the tie which is the very least we could’ve asked for.

Whilst we wern't great to start I do think the refs played a big part in going 3 0 down. Goals 2 and 3 were both very soft calls for the penalties. Soft even for league play never mind play offs. Even Garside on commentery said the one on Lee was a bad call. It's become the thing these days to not blame referees. This team has been poor with its discipline at times this season. So it's easy to point the finger that way but im sorry it wasn't the case last night. Never mind Lindhagen getting butt ended in the head and potentially what happened to Mosey (of which im not sure what caused him to go down). The refs didnt blow up when he was down holding his head right in front of goal as Giants were looking to shoot. Having said that. Later in the game it started to even itself out. The difference in last nights game was the ability of the 2 teams to score on the PP. I thought we probably edged the 5 on 5 play. I think had we been able to utilse our PP chances the result could have been very different. I'd have taken a 1 goal defeat before the game. Going away to an evenly matched team and coming away with a 1 goal deficeit is fine. Having gone 3 0 down it was a fantastic result.

Yep. that was the honourable thing to do, cross check into the face. And Please, a coach that many many people on have said / intimated he should have walked a long time ago ( DO THE HONOURABLE THNG !! ) calling anyone out for honour.. Its like he on a UK good will tour...Saint Neilson !
Anyway, the game on Sunday I suspect will the last one of the season for the Giants.. No enough to get them past the Panthers at home.. Giants to run in penalty problems, Panthers to win, over the 2 legs, by 2

And you’re probably right about Neilson, but, I still agree with him that they play with no honour. They go down like a sack of spuds at the slightest contact, a prime example was the penalty on Lachowicz last night. As gifted as they are in terms of skill I’m glad they don’t represent Nottingham.

There were a couple of lucky calls for the Giants last night. After Panthers first goal there was a scrum round the net and Giants 22 (Raine i think) was very lucky he didn’t get done for a butt end to the face of a Panther. Not sure if he actually made contact but if that had been a Panther on Rutherford or Connolly they would have dropped to the ice like a stone to draw probably a game pen.

I would have loved to see Rutherford come here when he walked out of the Edinburgh soup kitchen. One of the most effective players in the league. Honour? Don’t make me laugh, David Ling was worshipped here 😉

Question :- if Panthers were a goal up with 2 mins to go wouldn't you want them to try and draw a penalty by all means possible to try and gain a advantage and potentially get the series winner ? I know I would... and btw I don't advocate cheating

Not a puffing chest out moment, but many moons ago i was near international level for a sport. I wanted and needed to win, and losing just made the fire burn stronger and i would beat you next time. If i cheat then win or lose i would of lost this fire, therefore the only thing worse than losing would be to cheat as it would gain me nothing regardless of the end result.

Personally thought the refs were good last night , there were calls against both teams that could and probably should have been called but they let the game flow, we've been I'll disciplined all season and cross checking someone off the play under the trailing refs nose will be called all day. We're stupid with the penalties. One I thought was wrong was martinellis 2 minutes for roughing I thought it was automatically 5 for fighting when you drop gloves. Not that it would have changed the game though
