Some Twitterings that Simms was prevented from entering the arena for the game last night, dunno if that's true but if so, has Gary finally done something right?! I wouldn't let him in the HOS!!

Its the first game I have been to for a couple of months. Before we went in what was noticeable was that there wasn't the security stop and search. I also have caught up on the news of the incident which had occurred at Salisbury. In these circumstances what was the stop and search all about pre Christmas? Being seen to be doing something, I should think. It does appear to have been shelved in favour of a bag search in the ticket queue, perhaps someone pointed out the potential issues they were creating, considering what they were aiming to prevent.

Be nice if the club let their "best fans in the league" know what was happening wouldn't it. Came in with a big fanfare, then whoosh security has suddenly disappeared. Nearly as embarrassing as telling the fans the clocks go forward on the wrong weekend ! 🙄 Pmsl

HUGE backwards step by the arena. What happened in Manchester? The guy ran into the foyer after an event. He wasn't at the event. Previous system checked anyone going in or out of the venue. The reason crowds gathered outside was poor staffing and poor processes by the staff. Could you imagine if something like that happened at a game now in the foyer? The arena wouldn't have a leg to stand on. If they saved up all those extra pennys they're charging for dreadful beer, they might be able to install full metal detectors outside the venue and make the process hassle free.

I disagree personally, IMO they're better to try and get people into (and out of) the arena quickly. If they saved up all those extra pennys they're charging for dreadful beer, they might be able to install full metal detectors outside the venue and make the process hassle free. There'd still be a build up of people, I'd imagine every single one of us would set off a metal detector (keys, phone) and have to be checked in some way. At least with this there shouldn't be a queue of people at road level at the back entrance, as I believe there was before. Sadly, if someone wants to do something monstrous and decides that's the target - and the security services miss it - then there's not much you can do.

HUGE backwards step by the arena. What happened in Manchester? The guy ran into the foyer after an event. He wasn't at the event. Have some experience in this do you? The process that the Arena had in place was hugely flawed in a number of respects; - It wouldn't have prevented someone so inclined from getting an IED into the Arena. - It created crowds vulnerable to vehicle ramming attacks at predictable bottlenecks. - Those doing the searches were ineffective and thus were pointless. - It created anamosity towards such security measures due to it's poor implementation. No it didn't. It checked only those arriving at the Arena to attend an event in a narrow band of time before and after said event. People already in the NIC were/are not checked. Whilst the staff were poor, even with the best staff the process of dealing with so many people arriving is hampered by those people themselves. The problem with implementing searches such as what were being carried out is it often just displaces the issue. Can't get into the Arena? How about a smaller, more packed target near by, such as Bunkers or The Legend? Also there is the aforesaid issue of creating a target for an alternative (cheaper and easier to inact) method of attack. This is naive in the extreme. Ever flown from an airport before? Surely anyone who has ever considered travelling by plane in the last few decades has been aware that airports feature metal detectors, yet where do the biggest queues form in airports? Despite people largely being aware of security screening at airports, despite multiple signs all over the shop in airports to warn travellers of what is expected at security and despite those security people doing the job day in, day out all year, queues form because people are stupid. Now imagine those queues outside the Arena, by a major road through the city with minimal hard screening between roads and said queues. Thankfully the complete idiocy that the Arena was insisting on (making crowds leave the Arena through few exits rather than opening all doors) was dispensed with, perhaps coincidentally, not long after I emailed them explaining why it was contrary to security services advice for dealing with crowds.
