Excellent stats, bobness - much appreciated! Perhaps one ought to add in Sauvé's "defence" that he is our second-leading points scorer (tied with Derlago) in the league, with 8+22, compared to Lee's 1+6 and Brisebois' 3+6, and thus has contributed more up front than those two. As an aside, you do wonder how many more assists some of our D might have had if the forwards had been able to bury their chances more efficiently. Though our scoring efficiency has increased recently, we are still only ranked tenth, with .094, compared to first-ranked Fife's .129 and twelfth-ranked Edinburgh's .084 (league average .106).

Sauve at times tries to overplay when he’s in our defensive zone and he does make the odd mistake because of this but he is our standout dman offensively and when he’s defending I do feel he does a good job, blocks shots, lays the body, retains the puck well.
He has logged a lot of ice time for us this season, he’s on both special team units and he’s in our first line D pairing. In the game on Wednesday it seemed like he was always on the ice, he’s probably as frustrated as us that we have no D cover but he does deserve plaudits for this. For me it’s vital we resign him for next season. Thoughts?

Yes he's clearly frustrated, firstly it would seem undoubtedly with some of the refereeing calls against himself. And secondly because he plays as if he thinks nobody else in my team is going to take this game and change it,so I'm going to have to do it myself. In many ways he reminds me of Neilson as a player.

Our captain is our worst Dman by a distance. Genuine question - how would you define "worst" in terms of a D-man? He's a +5 rating in the league (second among D-men, only behind Billingsley), and isn't top (or bottom depending on how you look at it) in terms of being on the ice when a goal is conceded. That honour goes to Sauve, with 41 even strength goals conceded and 14 PP. Lee is 34 and 19 respectively. Statistically he is not Panthers "worst" D-man. Statistically, Sauve is Panthers' worst D-man, with a special mention to Brisebois, who was -7 in the league when he left, but was basically never used on the PK (was not on the ice for a PP goal conceded all season). Weirdly, Brisebois ended at +7 in the Cup games. Out of interest, it sounds like you have included PP and PK goals in the plus minus? Usually you don't include goals conceded on the PK and scored on the PP as it's not a fair comparison to those that don't do special team roles.

Thanks for the interest, and I can assure you I haven't. I just keep a further tally of who is on the ice for all PP goals scored and PK goals conceded. Leading PP + player is Derlago/Perlini with "+18", leading PK - player is Lachowicz, "-18". Sauve does have a load of points, but Lee and Sauve both have an identical number of +s, at 39, with Billingsley next at 36. Leading forward is Phiilips with 29. Leading - taker is Sauve at -41, Perlini "leads" the forwards at -32. Ice time wise, the only hard stats we have are in the CHL, where Sauve averaged 24 or so minutes, leading not only Panthers but the entire CHL, IIRC. I'd say an estimate of 35 is a way off the mark.
