This has opened up a can of worms! I was introduced to Dan Green in an official capacity a few months ago- "you have been used to a lot of success" he greeted me with. "Yes but I would have liked better league showings" Dan went very quite and wandered away. Yes apparently Panthers do get treated well by UK standard (perhaps have GM to thank?) and there is a thought that they are a bit pampered - but on the other hand with ex NHL and AHL players they should be treated well. There is at times a claim also which comes out in this context, a claim that Panthers are the ones targeted by other envious clubs who try harder. That has annoyed me and is a poor excuse. Sportsmen like to use twitter and some do genuinely engage with the fans. James Taylor of Notts tweeted that it had been a difficult time for Notts players, to which I replied it had been also frustrating for spectators, particularly travelling up to places like Durham. I was a result blocked by him. A bit hypersensitive I think. Notts were in a bad run ( maybe as bad as Panthers recent one)and Gurney on EMT profusely was supporting Mick Newell. I tweeted him to say that Newell should go and Peter Moores be brought in. Gurney described my post as "clueless garbage"! Obviously as he was a current county player others opinions did not count. Then a few months later Peter Moores was appointed! On the other hand particularly on twitter some posts are instant and ill thought out. One player I know was subjected to a vicious personal attack, which as a young player he found demoralising. It opens up players to attacks and sometimes abuse and basically if players involve themselves in social media and they should be prepared to walk away. Its players who have attracted abuse that Oakford should be talking to. Fans do care - I wonder how fans found the trip away to Cardiff - and get frustrated.

Oakford now doesn't play ice hockey, but does football. One wonders if he voices opinions critical of footballers!

Oakford actually said during his rant that โ i actually read the forum earlierโ so as they are referring to Panthers in their piece, one can reasonably assume it was the Cage Forum. Canโt imagine it was Steeltalk or The inferno can you ! THF? Facebook? The fact that he used real names leads it to Facebook more than likely. The question was asked about the Cage and they said next time they will. Could be either. I wouldnโt call Facebook or twitter โa forumโ though. Doesnโt really matter what he meant does it, they called into question the opinions of paying customers which is not good. Certainly not the brightest thing to do. Is this players podcast actually sanctioned by Panthers. One assumes so what with the Green,Oakford and Mosey connection ?

Ben O Connor has done the same thing with Steelers fans ... that didn't go down well either.. I don't think he's been back on Twitter since! Life lesson 101 never call the paying customers and your source of income!

Oakford, if youโre reading the cage, are you also going to take issue up with TripAdvisor etc...? You know, for all those people whoโve never worked in a restaurant that theyโve given an opinion about...

None of us have ever run the country or been an MP. How can Jose Mourinho possibly manage Chelsea or Man Utd? Heโs never been a footballer. Oakford youโre an embarrassment.

And I've no idea what he's planning to teach, but presumably he won't be able to teach French because he's not French, never be able to teach history because he wasn't alive when it happened, never be able to teach science because he's never been a scientist.....

To be fair to him, he can regurgitate information by his own rules. However, if he ever voiced an opinion... whoa!! Any pupils not performing or distrupting the learning of others, youโre going to have a field day with Mr Oakford!

There is a culture of contempt within the Panthers. This can only come from the top down. When such minor characters as Oakford and Green have so little respect for the fans, one wonders how deeply embedded it is?

Never had any dealings with NB but have seen and heard first hand the contempt GM has for the fans (customers). Odious old fart.

Using words like moronic is no really acceptable in the 21st teaching profession... Back on topic, the lack of signings is now a shocker!

Think Oakford and Green need to get into the real world.
Oakford had 2 seasons with us and then went to be a teacher, wonder what his thoughts are on Ofstead? Parents who complain?
Green must hate it, if a player complains about something in the house they are living in.
Still no signings - good times

Personally i dont think any signings will be made until february just before the signing cut off date. We are well out of league contention now so there is no real need to rush. I believe we will coast the next few weeks and then make a few signings to make a push for the challenge cup and play offs as usual. Mosey was out for nearly a month with no replacement and shalla was gassed just over 2 weeks ago and not a murmur of a signing. Panthers seem to have a similar lax attitude to arsenal with how they both meander aimlessly through seasons.

Both got an arrogant coach. Both got a coach whoโs been there far too long. Both win the odd FA cup. Both play in a nice stadium with big crowds. Both got an owner who is hardly ever seen. Both sign good players, but not good enough. Both donโt spend what they could. And the best bit....Neil Black is a Spurs fan ! ๐๐

Usually when Panther's announce they are looking to recruit, forum members are all over it scouring Elite Prospects and posting links to potential players. Given there has only been a handful of these posted it's a fair assumption there's not many players available, therefore we shouldn't be surprised no one has been signed.
As frustrating as it is the best we can hope for is finding the right player(s) is top of the club's priorities and we'll get some news sooner rather than later.

I understand that there wont be a great deal of players out there at this stage of the season but neilson said that he was close to making a signing and had been talking to players well before he gassed shalla. He said he was just waiting for xmas to pass and hopefully have some news. Since then there has been nothing. My question is why sack a player when there is nobody coming in straight away. I would rather them bench players if the want to make a statement than play short for weeks on end.

Too right. Why gas Shalla without a replacement already signed. Sounds to me like Neilson made a monumental cockerel up here and didnโt get who he thought he would. Probably the guy Neilly who ended up in Sheffield.
There are quite a few forwards around going through Elite Prospects,IF you will pay the right money. And we all know how that goes at Panthers.
No sympathy from me. He should have signed some forward quality in the summer rather than average Joes then scratch around now. This script could have been written before the season even started !

What I don't understand is that we were looking for somebody before we axed Shalla which would indicate there was room in the budget for an extra player.
We haven't had Shalla for 2(nearly 3) weeks so that's wages we now don't have to be paying for and given his record he was probably a higher earner than most.
There should now be a healthy excess in the budget, approximately 4-6 weeks worth of players wages that we can now add to our offers to players to tempt them here. There are players out there for a price but if all of the above is correct(I may well be wrong) then we surely have enough in the kitty to go out and bag a good player even if it means paying a premium.
I'm not one for the 'Panthers are purely out there trying to fleece us for money' conspiracy but the lack of news and urgency is pushing me even further away as a fan.
I don't believe for a second they aren't trying but unfortunately the efforts just aren't good enough on and off the ice at the moment. A season that promised so much is delivering so little.

I think Shalla was made a scapegoat (a person who is blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others, especially for reasons of expediency)
CN as only 1 attribute, thats take a good player and make him into a average one.
I think what Gagnon's says in the Nottingham post is just Panthers PR stuff

Neilson made a rod for himself when he sacked Shalla and said he was at โan advanced stage with more than one playerโ.
Now he and others in the Panthers are bemoaning constantly being asked about signings and theyโre โnot just going to sign anyoneโ.

I'd love to believe that is genuinely how Gagnon feels, but unfortunaitly it just reads like a script. Literally looks like somebody has read through the cage, taken in every gripe and moan then ticked them off as countered as they wrote Gagnons statement.
