Reducing exit points mean the stewards can easier check who is coming back into the building I would assume. Yeah, cheers for that but perhaps you misunderstood. If you'd have read the previous paragraph to the one you quoted perhaps you wouldn't have posted that response. For fullness... Reducing ingress routes is a given, as a part of needing to control access to those checked and ticketed to be at the event, but reducing egress routes? To foil potential attackers you want to, when possible, widen attack options, not reduce them to particular choke points. And thanks to the restriction on exit options (forcing people leaving into that choke point), if he were there with nefarious intent he would have had a nice, more densely packed than need be, target. I get your point however for me it seems to make more sense reducing exit points as there are less places for a potential attacker to enter the building once the event is finished. Obviously the crowds gathered waiting security checks are clearly a big target for a transit van (on the LPS side of the arena at least)

It may make more sense to you, but from that I can deduce your knowledge about this sort of thing is strictly 'layman'. The recommended advice is to allow crowds to disperse as quickly as possible when an event ends. That's not "as recommended by a bloke on the internet" but as recommended by the security services. Needlessly restricting egress to fewer routes turns these into predictable choke points, increasing the risk of these points being targeted. It also increases the risk of an explosive device (for instance) being effective as a more tightly packed area presents more targets. This is very basic stuff the NIC is getting wrong, the principles of which haven't changed since the IRA were the threat.

Apparently there has been information of a 'security threat' relating to the Arena, hence the more in depth groping tonight.
Still not addressing the crowds forming next to Lower Parliment Street though...

Jeez if your queuing 20 mins in the rain for a 5000 crowd Panthers game, what's it like when they get 10,000 there for a concert ? 🙄 Better get their act together for the Steelers game next Saturday !

I thought the security was very good tonight. Woman next to me was complaining about being pattered down. Whilst I see her annoyance, there’s a reason this is happening and people are just going to have to accept that this is the norm now.
My big complain tonight is not opening the doors until 6:20? Considering it was raining too, everyone was stood like lemons in the foyer.

I could have thought they opened an hour before, but last saturday we got in at 6pm and it was barely possible to move there were so many people in the foyer!

If I was a bomber. What is there to stop me entering the arena mid afternoon, sitting in the bar for 3 or 4 hours, waiting until the foyer is packed, then going into the middle of the foyer and pressing the button.
Do we have security checks all day or just for a couple of hours leading up to an arena event ?

That's a good point, does anyone know what time it says on tickets that the gates open?

I believe gates are supposed to open one hour before game time. And usually an hour and a half for a Steelers sell out.

Do we have security checks all day or just for a couple of hours leading up to an arena event ? the other week I was mega early for some reason, so watched them setup as i walked down Stoney Street. They were ready to go at 17:15 with people just walking in right up until that point. As for doors opening, it seems to be getting later and later. I don't think i have seen the doors open 1hr before face off all season. the funny part is, they are advising people to come early to avoid queues in getting through the security measures, for them all to be in Encore, the Shop or stood in a queue. The irony was at the game the other night (clan Game) at just after 6, the stewards were asking us to "bunch up" as there was no room there, i did say rather loudly "there is an easier solution... letting us in..." From a personal stand point, I have wondered if the wands are working, and dependent on who you get, depends on the competence. all the games i have been to, i haven't removed a cap (worn to most games) or emptied my pockets for the last 4 trips. then add i am normally pushing a pushchair, the what to do with that is almost comical...

Do we have security checks all day or just for a couple of hours leading up to an arena event ? Don't even have to stay there yourself - leave whatever you want in the lockers the day before by the Olympic rink. Saunter in through 'security' and head downstairs from the foyer. It would be just as effective to have an amnesty or confessional box by the entrance as what the NIC currently do.

I found the security very good last night. A new guy I have never seen before not in showsec uniform. Very much knew what he was doing and very efficient. The debacle inside the foyer on the other hand packed with hundreds of people when the ticket scanners went down with more and more people pushing in through the doors was a worry.

Indeed it was a shambles. At 6.55pm there must have been at least 2000 people in the foyer or queuing to get in from Bolero square. At 7pm face off time the arena was about half full. Not good that. 🙄

Not good that. 🙄 The foyer was anarchy. When we got through the scanners at 6:55 they were no longer actually trying to scan. Just ripped off the barcode from our printed tickets and waved us through. It is amazing to think that they plan for 7500 go through about 10 scanners. I also presume that is why Panthers were so slow to get on the ice. Steelers were on for what seemed an age and Ken seemed to be desperately trying to fill time.
