Anyone else think we should go with an additional outskater instead. There are pros and cons with having an additional import nm. What's your thoughts?

Yup....without question I reckon a spare skater is the better option. Had we had one,he would already have played about four games with Brisebois already out injured.

The question I'd ask is are you happy for Gospel to play 60 minutes against big oppositions should Garnett get injured. If the answer is no then I'd definitely sign an import goalie. I actually don't know enough about Gospel to answer myself.

If it was a long term injury then obviously not,so you bring a proper import replacement in then.

Well Corey saw fit to be carrying 3 Netminders to begin with, therefore if there is someone out there that fits the criteria then he should be signed. If we wait and Garnett gets injured and is out for a long period then its best to have someone ready to go immediately. Remember how long it took to get Madalora and how many points were lost because of that

Hopefully Garnett will benefit from the S&C coach but I think another GK would be a good idea to give him a rest and then compete with Gospel for ice time.
Zakharchenko looked like he'd be in net for the CC games which Gospel seems more than capable of playing in instead. However, another Russian speaker would be good to help Mokshantsev settle too.

I think where this has got confusing is that we and probably Corey too, didn't think Gospel was as capable as he is. He is certainly a far far better back up than Dan Green that's for sure. He even backstopped Steelers to a big win against us a couple of years ago.
At the time of signing Zakharchenko it seemed a very good idea because we all thought Gospel was just a benchwarmer. Now though,I'd rather have the spare skater instead.

It may well be that we have already used the money (and maybe a bit more) that was originally allocated for Zakharchenko's wages- On Brett Perlini - a Brit who is essentially import quality. Just a thought.....Though it's unlikely we will ever know for sure...

A young Euro back up 3rd goalie,or Brett Perlini. I know which I would choose !

Regardless of nationality we need to identify a 3rd goalie who is an upgrade on Green. Garnett is/should be top draw. I havn't seen Gospel yet, but if we are confident he can win us big games should Garnett get injured then fine. We have a lot of games this season and at times it would be good for Garnett to get the night off. Therefore we need a bench warmer(hopefully) who should called upon not be a liability. If we can find a young Brit to do that job, great.

They always announced Green at the last minute it seemed. I think because it would deter walk ups, it would me.
I want a back up where you know the game may betougher but at least you have a chance to get the win.

Now though,I'd rather have the spare skater instead. I don't know about Corey not thinking Gospel to be all that capable... Corey's no dummy, he's seen Gospel play and he'll have had plenty of information on him. Sam Gospel looks at least as capable as any other backup in the league, and shows every sign of being able to compete well against any domestic opposition. so on that front... do we really need a third netminder? Unfortunately, the only man that can answer that one isn't in Nottingham. If Paul Thompson continues with the goalie-crashing tactics, then we may well need one... if not, then Sam Gospel should be perfectly capable of holding the second slot exclusively. Oh, and before any Sheffield fan gets on their high horse... I don't believe that any other goalies got taken off injured against any other team other than the Sheffield Steelers last season. They wiped out Brian Stewart @ Coventry, they wiped out Ben Bowns @ Cardiff (and not long before the World Championships, too - could have crippled GB right there!)... and although I haven't been able to verify it, I was told by a Braehead fan that they did over their netminder as well. And those are 'just' the injuries... doesn't count the constant goalie-crashing they were doing that 'only' shook up netminders... far more than any other team. There are arguments over the Wiikman injury... but even if it wasn't directly one of their players hitting him, it wouldn't have happened if they weren't constantly blitzing netminders - a deliberate campaign. Isn't it a pity that you can't clobber the opposing coach?

I agree with you there Shaggy. Dangerous game if Thommo plays that tactic this year though. I would certainly hope and think that if they took out and injured Garnett, with the likes of Gagnon around very soon after Steelers would be looking for a replacement for Mustakovs !

Normally I don't want teams going after goalies. If someone runs our goalie then I want us to deal with that player. However, Sheffield/Thompson have chosen dirty tactics, so if it happens this season we need to go after both the player running our goalie and their goalie. They need to be taught a lesson. Of course, crybaby Thompson will bleat and bleat but then that's hardly new.

I can see certain teams when playing The Steelers making things quite clear from the start what will happen if they run their Goalie. A sort of a pre-emptive strike.

Not sure why there isnt an article on the OS about this, but this morning the Panthers released a series of tweets saying that today (Fri 15th), the IIHF have confirmed that Zakarchenko has been suspended, the club were hoping to still take him but his ITC has been blocked. Im paraphrasing there but thats the gist. I cant link the tweets, perhaps someone who knows how to do it could oblige

Im paraphrasing there but thats the gist. I cant link the tweets, perhaps someone who knows how to do it could oblige From Panthers official Facebook page "Panthers Statement about Eduard Zakharchenko: The IIHF (the sport’s world ruling body) has today confirmed that Ukrainian goalie Eduard Zakarchenko is suspended pending an investigation. We were hoping he would be available to Panthers this season and we have been asking for updates and clarification since his international transfer card was blocked by the Ukrainian federation last month. In light of today’s confirmation from the IIHF that the player is in effect unavailable he will not be able to take up that contract. The inquiry relates to an international match issue from last season."
