Hull Pirates owner Shane Smith confirmed that the he had spoken with the EIHL. Say's his aim is still to have a Hull based team back in the EIHL, but that the forced move to the NIHL may have put these plans back a year. News on their proposed new rink is positive (going to be council funded so doubt it will be big) If they do move to EIHL they don't necessarily have to wait proposed new rink is built. He also states Caps,Stars and Flyers were never going to leave the league. The want an 8 import league. (Basically the BNL from the 90's/2000's). The inference being there's not enough support for it within or without the EIHL. On the proposed PIHL he said it collapsed because Ken Taggart ((EIHA chairman) refused to sanction it - As IHUK attempted to do with the EIHL at its inception ( owners of both Guildford and Fife were part of that attempt.....) Interesting stuff.
The new Hull rink is only supposed to hold 2,000 max. Originally stated to be 6,000 but they quickly cut it down.

I think a 2k capacity is manageable in the EIHL although you wouldn't want it any lower. The league is now far more rink team orientated than it has ever been. Short of London there are no arena teams on the horizon where as 2k sized rinks are far more likely to be built, such as Leeds and I think Bristol is around that size too. Get Hull back plus a team in the new Leeds rink and we'd have an incredibly competitive league. I've always said that it's more medium sized teams like Dundee and Coventry that the league needs to be sustainable.

Agree with what you say with medium sized teams being important for a sustainable league. But are Dundee really a medium one? Their averages crowds are below the 1k mark. Wouldn't personally have categorised them in the same group as Cov

Wouldn't personally have categorised them in the same group as Cov I'd say they are once you take their potential in to consideration. I believe their rink holds around 2600 and with the right work behind the scenes I don't think there would be much sunlight between them and the Blaze. In terms of their current standing then you're bang on, definitely a smaller team.

All could pull in better crowds with the right work. Edinburgh astound me every time I look into them to be honest.... such a wasted opportunity

If they had a solid financially sound plan then I'd want to see Hull come to the league.
