Have to say, this kid looks like he could be very very good. But if he's the no1 and best goalie in the Ukraine, with stats like that....why the heck is he coming here to be a number two !

More to the point where does it leave Sam Gospel? Obviously Sam will be automatic inclusion for all matches as number 2, but how much ice time does he get and how much confidence has management got in him?

Although I thought exactly the same, looks far far too good for Ukraine which at his age should mean the KHL isnt far out of his grasp, this quote suggests he's in for Pacl: “We’ve got another long season ahead and I see Eduard playing a big part in it, firstly by pushing the other netminders and secondly by playing in and winning games for us. He’s keen and he can’t wait to get here."

I like the look of this guy and can see him get plenty of starts. Gospel will likely be the back up in most games, and potentially get the last few minutes of a handful of games where the game looks to be in the bag. Gospel will also get to train with two good imports and may be ready to make the no.2 slot his own next season.

Yeah, assuming we get a number 1 starter, I definitely see Gospel backing up and maybe starting some Challenge Cup games and I can see Zakharchenko starting games against the Scottish teams (Minus Braehead), Milton Keynes and Guildford.

At least he has the 4 syllable name required for the Pigbag song chant.
Miika Wiikman Henry Pacl Za-khar-chen-ko
I worry about how Sam Gospel will fit in with only 3 syllables.

Appreciate this will be unpopular round here - but is there any reason whatsoever why this guy shouldn't be the Number 1?

Appreciate this will be unpopular round here - but is there any reason whatsoever why this guy shouldn't be the Number 1? Certainly looks good enough. I think he will share the number 1 spot with another and who is in form will get it. I don't think he's here to ride the pine.

Think for an entire campaign you'd want to add some experience and between Gospel and Zakharchenko there's very little

I wouldn't be worried with him as our number one but I'd say the defence has to be superb.

I don't think his record really tells you all that much either way. All the netminders at the better clubs in Ukraine seem to have these sub 2 GAAs and high SVS% - look at our old mates Donbass ( EP). I'm not saying he's good, bad or ugly, and writing him off as not good enough is silly, but so is building him up too much.

Get what your saying but I'm worried for Gospel. We lost him once because he didn't play fo we really want to potentially lose him again for the same reason?

I'd like to think Corey wasn't stupid enough to sign Gospel without setting him a realistic expectation of what ice time he will receive and also have set targets/pathway in the long term for him to progress into a bigger role for us. Based on that assumption(it is just an assumption, wouldn't put anything past this club) then I can't see Gospel upping and leaving after a season of not being number 1 or even number 2 in the pecking order. I don't know too much about Gospel but I hope he's ambitious and dedicated enough to put the effort in to get the long term results.
