And that is another article highlighting what is wrong with this club.
How can anyone say this season has been a success! They turned up for 9 games, well six as the first round of the Continental Cup was a waste of time.f
If he signs rubbish and he knows he signed poor players then why did he not changed the roster at all.
For example he knew Logan MacMillan was not producing as a forward, so he throws him in on D, where he also has not performed well. Why not man up and say your not good enough and replace him!

It just feels like he's acknowledging the obvious, softening the fans and paving the way for his inevitable return next year.
I do agree with you Yotes, his candour is good to see. But that is the million dollar question. Why did he do absolutely nothing about it??

Because Neilson hasn't got the balls to admit he signed poorly and cut players mid season.
How many players has he actually cut over eight years,about TWO !!!!
Perhaps he had better start reading the cage.
We told him when we saw his signings last summer exactly what he was getting,or some people did and it proved to be spot on correct.
Mmmm,a younger team next season ?
Now where did we hear that before....eh Mr Black !
Players who don't carry recurring injuries would be rather good too !

Can only assume Black is responsible for players not being cut. Corey isn't stupid, he's been cut from teams himself, friends have been cut from teams.. he knows players have to perform if they want their place but we aren't seeing players getting cut unless there's family or serious disciplinary issues. It's almost as if Black won't allow Corey to chop and change freely, like he should be able to.

Corey has never been a coach to cut players mid season, either out of loyalty, or thinking that they will come good in the end. After all it would only take 4 games for the season to be a real success (by winning the Playoffs) in the eyes of the general support.
I'm just surprised that he didn't see 'certain players' for what they were. If they'd been playing back home they wouldn't have lasted 5 mins.

He signed them and he's too arrogant to cut them,because that would be admitting he signed poorly. Same as the previous season with the powerplay. He had his own players telling him it wasn't working,but he persisted with it game after game after game to try and make it work.....and it didn't. There should have been at least four or five players cut this season,Carter,Lawrence,Macmillan,Schultz and possibly a Dman.....but NONE were gassed,not even ONE. He better make sure he signs a good team next season,because the pressure will really be on him next year and he won't survive another poor season ! |

He talk about Cam being the heartbeat of 15/16 team, they played a few good games near the end of the season to win the CC and the Playoff the rest being average at best.
He needs to stop trying to make "pick n mix" lines work

Failure to change players more likely because Black would not support same budget wise. Coach failed to challenge Black on this and result is what you have today. Black likes yes men not those that challenge him to do the right thing for the club.

The man with a million chances is obviously getting another go at throwing a roster together. Not many people would have got away with the last 4 years of poor recruitment, we shall see.
On reflection though, thanks to the repetitively homophobic PR man, mascot arrested after fighting with fans, recent ex-player convicted for sexual offences, chairman stopping his fans visit away matches, enforcer calling out McGrattan on Twitter after the final game, etc. etc... we're not the biggest embarrassment of 2016/17!!

finally some honesty. Just 5 months too late.
The only reason I can see in why he didn't gas any players was because we did have a lot of injuries at the start of the season so we was already playing short. Then you can't gas an injured player which were the main underporformers such as Schultz. Still think Carter dodged the bullet somehow.
It was an awful season regardless of the CC cup win.

I just don't think it's a particularly easy process for Corey and Finnerty to gas players mid-season without an outstanding case. |

I also like the hearing that we need a hungrier and younger team. Ive always thought some of the best players in this league are mid to late 20's guys out of the echl, as apposed to 30 plus guys with previous ahl experience.
Wether this translates into better recruitment we'll have to see. But at least Corey's is aware of it.

But at least Corey's is aware of it. there's no doubting players like brad morans ability but it was clear to see there was no hunger there, where as you look at the likes of Jeff brown (poor example in terms of his role) who gave everything every night and every shift, that's what I'd rather have ,hunger. I do think 1 or 2, possibly 3 with mcgratten ,with mum experience is a good thing but this years team was way too old for me |

This years team had too many ageing players yes.
A couple of mid thirty somethings is fine,mixed with a couple of early twenties and the rest being prime age is what's needed.
I'm guessing next year we will actually have a good team,possibly even a league winning team.......the reason being,because they've got to,they know it's crunch season again,they know the fans are very restless and either we win it,go very close or Corey gets sacked,plus we're in the CHL so we know Black will up the budget for his pet project.
The lesson they have to learn from the last CHL campaign though,is don't muck about with short term signings this time,just sign an EIHL team with a couple of spares and let that team play in the CHL.

IMO he never fired anyone because we were still in both cup and league. He thought we could cruise it with out having to cut anyone.
By the time we were knocked out of both it was too late.
Neilson is guilty of being weak mentally also.
Wonder what poor old klaus did wrong? He got us through in Europe then we cut him to play short? Baffling.
He knows he's got to spend big and win the league next season or it must be the end. Unless black is weak also.

He's a bit late coming out with that and for me another winter of that is a season too far for me. Too much hype, too much BS and this year too many face to face lies too but the problem for me is there are far better things to do so he can have a few more good seats available to shout about.

Spot on. i get the feeling we wait for "CVs to arrive on the desk" - why dont we go out there and persuade people to come to us who we want instead. I can't imagine Cardiff and Sheffield settle with people who are "desperate to come to xxxxx" - no way would they have the stacked rosters they have without aiming high, approaching them and making them want to play in their City. All their point scorers (and theres a lot of them) have proven year after year in similar leagues they average a ppg - the Martins, Ulmer, Asselin, Bentivoglio, Doucet, Roy, Armstrong, Fretter, Nelson, Walker, Haddad, Hotham whereas we relied solely on an injury prone Schultz, an aging Moran, a lazy Lawrence and a hardworking but under delivering Nikiforuk last time we tried this "younger recruitment" was a disaster too - we ended up with Mosey (ok - good pick!) Landry, Parent and Berube... |

Indeed,when you look at our player points output it's terrible.
Ben O'Connor,basically a Brit Dman,although a good player,had more points than anyone on our entire roster.
That says a lot !

It could be that this year maybe they were right that there wasn't much quality available to come in to replace people. Look at Sheffield's two Hagos (39 games, 3 goals 15pts) and Walker (15 games for 11 points). Even Carter's stats are better than Hagos.
