I'm sure Steelers beat us in the cc final in about 1999? Docklands arena I think The old Autumn cup (stand alone Cup competition) was last played in the 96/97 season when WE won too....then the following season we had both an Autumn Cup and and newly brought in Challenge Cup which Ayr took as part of their four tournament collection. Both competitions lasted another three seasons till the Challenge Cup continued as the only Cup awarded in season 01/02 till now. It was in the 98/99 season that WE did win the Autumn but Sheffield took the Challenge. It makes you wonder why we shift tournament and names of such so often, reason why I hope we just keep it as we are in name. Even if we change the format.

If that game had gone on another 5 mins we'd have tied it up . That was a proper one off final at a neutral venue . Yes the steelers beat us in 1999 in the CC final in Sheffield. 4-0 and that Steelers team led by Don McKee were poor

4-2 Devils, game to boil over due to one ref being terrible and the other ref being abit of an idiot. Take your pick on either

Ref Pering "want to go in-noticed in big final" then Steelers get 5 on 3 chance after 10mins. Don't both refs come from Sheffield???

The only way I cam discribe the final is Cardiff battered Sheffield 3 2. Yes the score suggests a tight game but the second 2 periods were anything but. Cardiff must have been close to 90% possesion in those 2 periods. Some goods saves from Moose and the puck not quite rebounding straight to tape the only thing preventing a battering on the scoreboard too.

Think they should rename it the Matthew Myers trophy.
Anybody know his record in the CC? How many in a row?

No CC, no league title and they won't make the playoff final, bet we still see Thommo at the helm next year. Also 8 in a row for Matt Myers. Cardiff deserved to win, any team that can leave a sniper out and win has great depth.

Have we changed the Challenge Cup again?
Not that that ugly thing Gary replaced the nice old one with was worth saving.

Congrats to Cardiff on beating Sheffield tonight. Home ice does defiantly help in a way. Cardiff have been the better team all season and deserved to win. I'm real glad Steelers names aren't on our trophy. I think that The Challenge Cup should be rotated around the different arena's every season like they do for the Open Championship golf.
Still surprising that they Cardiff left Doucet out of the line up. The Question is... Has he fallen out with the Devils? I mean there are signs that he could be out in the summer since the last devils game I went too a couple of weeks ago (at the NIC) he didn't get much ice time and according to sources he's a free agent at the end of this season.
again well done devils just keep it polished for us because we want it back next season ^_^.

Considering that we may play Sheffield in the Play Off Quarter Finals, it might be an idea for our coaches to study this game to see how Cardiff did it and implement it themselves.

Be interesting to see where they host the final next season. Sheffield have had it,Cardiff did,Belfast is too far,Braehead similar and nowhere else is big enough. Looks like Nottingham then !

They'll hold it in Cardiff again probably as the venue is free of charge.
