Thursday set off at 11.30am to Glasgow for same day face-off - 3-3 draw against the worst Braehead team in history.
Arrive a day early in Cardiff - 8-0 win against the strongest Devils team I can remember.

Even in my wildest dream I didn't imagine this. However, it mean nothing if we don't go and win tomorrow. One good result needs to be put in context however let's hope this is the start of an upturn in performance. Still a lot of hockey to be played but we need to play this type of hockey for a long stretch.

Lots of ways to read this, but nothing that can mean much unless they kept it up until about mid-Jan.
A few things that could've happened tonight:
- Cardiff just played dreadfully/took the victory for granted - Panthers players don't like Corey and decided to prove that they can actually play, but just don't usually want to - Panthers players did what England apparently did at Italia 90 and got so fed up with the coach's tactics they decided to just ignore him and play their natural game - Bowns had a nightmare, Wiikman had a hot game - Corey's worked Cardiff out - Corey's realised that settled lines are the best option - The players are playing for their future so gave it their all against a team who weren't
I wasn't there so I don't know which of these it is, but I won't be reading too much into this. For a start, it's too late anyway - if we get this result every weekend we'll still come up short.

Just take it for what it is, a great win from a team very much struggling at the moment, nothing more. As others have said, one swallow doesn't make a summer, but if the team are going to get criticised when they play poorly, it's only right to give them some credit when they win well.

More likely on a punt at the bookies your correct there, it's a tad too late you'd think even if we win all games to end of season. So 83 points won't win us the league?

Well normally I'd say yes, but with this team I don't think they do deserve any credit. They've been so awful that if they really are good enough to beat a table topping Cardiff team 8-0 away then they've been conning the fans all season.

If we lost 8-0 you d have a field day

We'd actually get 85 points if we won every game and I reckon that would be enough. I've get everything mapped on a spreadsheet and before this weekend, I'd predicted Cardiff to get 84 points and win the league. Realistically if we wanted to stand even a chance, we'd need to beat the Devils and Steelers in every game, and then we'd probably only be able to afford to lose 3-4 games against the other sides. Unfortunately, I doubt even the biggest optimist would say that is actually realistic.

Great result, but I'm not getting carried away, every team has a blow out now and again but good to snap that losing streak. Need to back it up against the Blaze. Of course half the team will be damn scared that their necks are on the block as surely one player is getting gassed when the new guy comes in, so some motivation. Let's review in a couple of weeks, but the pressure has eased a bit on the club for sure.
Shame we can't turn it on when we play Sheffield, rather than capitulate, let's hope we can at Christmas.

I obviously made the error of counting the games left on the OS fixtures list, as I couldn't remember how many games this odd ball league had in total for the season (52) .....so yes 85 points possible as you say. Even I should have counted the games left added to 19 already played made an un-even number and was thus wrong.

Nice to see a comment like this from a Cardiff fan:-
One has to wonder if the Devils will even show the highlights of this game... I hope so, but you never know!
Still... as others have said - it's just 2 points at the end of the day. A very good performance, but for it to make any kind of difference it needs to be followed up by a shed-load more of the same. Here's hoping... and we'll find out tomorrow against Coventry if they can keep it going for at least a little while longer.

Good job Cardiff didn't have a teddy bear toss tonight! They had a puck toss competition after the 2nd period. One of them went in the net. I hear Kelman is looking for whoever threw it, to see if they want to play tomorrow. According to the OS, it looks like Carter may be injured. Of course it was his turn - he's scored 4 goals in 4 games. It must be a curse. I suspect it was that old lady they kidnapped in the tram ads.

Getting to a venue early with proper time to prepare. Who knows, it might be the future?

Didn't see Carter get injured but I hear he has been playing injured in previous weeks. A good team performance and a welcome change, I wasn't hopeful before the game and did question why we were actually driving 3+ hours on a bus to see us lose. A very good following of support that actually out sung the home fans. Those 3quick goals actually killed the game and they were shell shocked. let's hope they turn up tomorrow and haven't spent all their energy on this one.

Just got back and the Devils played very hard but we just took them apart in every department. Wiikman was outstanding, Schultz had his best game I have seen since he has been with us, Lachowicz had his game of the last two seasons so far, Nikiforuk just didn't stop all game against the Devils D who are all twice his size, Farmer *is* now import quality and the heartbeat of the team, Lindhagen wanted it so bad you could see him hurt, Betteridge was like a Duracell bunny *and* effective, Brown was just Brown as always and HUGE effort with everything he did, Lee was making lazer passes (really!), Kudroč was calm and solid and McGrattan (has the most effective ice time of ANY enforcer in the league and proved it tonight), Carter, Lawrence, Macmillan and Moran were all excellent. Sertich SHG and even Spang kicked one in too!
I think there was a sit down with a frank exchange of views from all sides last night as it looked like they were playing how they wanted to play with pretty much settled lines.
I have to admit I would have lost the house on that result and if ANYONE moans about the NIC being quiet they really should have been there tonight. You could have heard a pin drop from five minutes in and not a single whisper from the home crowd all night after.
Also, the Devils management after the final buzzer was sheer class. A lesson on how it's done properly when you get a royal pasting at home. No excuses, no crap and no BS.

Very good performance from the Panthers. A lot more passes were finding their target, we seemed a lot more composed in possession in our own zone, Wiikman was excellent and some of the finishing was clinical.
Well played to the team and well done to the fans.

Thanks for the first-hand information... that and ftm's post are actually far more encouraging than the scoreline itself. Of course, the hole we've dug for ourselves means that this kind of performance would need to be the standard from now on... but if we can keep this going, it will at least mean some very entertaining hockey (the primary reason for me going to a game). Just hope there's enough left in the tank to clobber Coventry this afternoon (and then Braehead on Wednesday).

As someone who was there last night may I congratulate the boys on a well earned victory. As others have said wheres this team been all season? Instead of sitting back we played attacking hockey from the start. It was evident that this caught the Devils players and coaching team by surprise. Every time we played a diagonal pass from our blue line the devils d parted like the red sea. Not just that we outworked them AND played for each other in such a way ive not seen this team do before this season....we actually looked like we cared about the result. Miika was also on top form- 2nd and 3rd period especially. Travelling up a day early obviosly helped....... If only Lacho could rediscover his form of a few years ago.......
