Well this year he will no excuse he has had players signed specifically for him. They are his mates if he is unable to produce the goods in a big way this year he has no excuse at all. It is a big gamble especially with a player who has been labeled as a lazy player. Hope he does it though I genuinely hope he proves us all wrong and smashes it this year

You'll be lucky.... history shows he only puts maximum effort/plays anywhere near his full ability when theres a tangiable chance of a trophy.... the playoffs and also the challenge cup quarter final onwards are the perfect example. Why we are basing our forward lines pretty much around a player who has had motivational issues throughout his career, at least going back to his AHL days is beyond me. Observing the previous comments on here re Carter & Brown it seems some on here are far from convinced either can put the points up we need in this team. Personally I have an open mind but I can see why some are concerned especially when you look at rosters of other teams. Having said that championships arent won on paper.... I'm behind this view too. Hopefully Carter & Brown can raise the frequency of Lawrence's effort. To put it simply, we've seen Lawrence rip teams apart (I believe the 2016 playoff final was won by him being the difference maker) and if he applied a similar effort in every game, Chris could easily edge up to 100pts a season. The problem is that he has earnt a lazy tag for a reason. To build a team around him is a risk... Especially for those late Tuesday nights in Cardiff or a 3rd game in 3 nights up in Scotland. It could well work brilliantly... But personally I'd like to have focused more on Brad Moran or Cam Janssen's mates. 100pts a season?!?!?!?! Easily?!!?!? Not even Ling, Galbraith, Roy.. managed 100pts in a season.

I did put a caveat in there though, maximum effort in most games (similar to the playoff final).

Would like to have some signing news now - a little concerned about our team. Looking a little weak compared to the rest of the league Whether we sign someone today, tomorrow next week or month it will probably make little or no difference as we will still (on paper at least) be short on offence compared to most other teams in the league (but as we all know trophies arent won on paper.) This is a direct result of Neilsons obsession with doing whatever it takes to have Lawrence on his team. Carter and Brown are a direct consequence of that. Lingers recommendation of Brown is very much secondary and is not the primary reason we signed him. Though it serves as good PR to tell us the fans. I like many am not convinced about Carter and Brown but I do have an open mind. Both players have the potential to do very well in this league but that in itself is far from certain. Add into that Lawrences issues with motivation..... Neilson has either pulled a master stroke with this combination of signings or has made a big mistake which equates to 25% of our potential offence...... something we cant afford to get wrong..... Least we Know Brown is on a uni deal so if he does turn into a stud he should be back the following season too.....

Most people for seasons have moaned we are too offence focused until the last few seasons Yes but that's because we usually had teams with tons of offence but virtually NO defence. Neilson actually found the right formula once in the grand slam year. And yet since then.....he can't even seem to make up his mind how many import D to have, because he changes it every flipping year. It surely can't be that hard to get the right balance between forwards and defence !

It surely can't be that hard to get the right balance between forwards and defence ! He changes how many import D we have because the import number has risen by 2 or 3 since 2012-13. We need one more decent looking defenceman to add to an already good looking defence. For all we know, Sertich and Lindhagen may just prove to be key signings in terms of getting our forwards firing, Sertich is great on the PP and has consistently put up good numbers in better leagues, i would expect him to be like Chris Murray before he left us and potentially averaging a point per game. Lindhagen can provide the dynamic switch between F and D, using his speed to breakthrough the defence and as he has better hands than Mosey, i'd expect him to do very well, Neilson has a way of making those types of players explode so hopefully this is no different. Hopefully Dimmen will stay healthy throughout the season, we might see him impact the forwards a lot more and as he was first expected to. So as it stands in defence we have 1 solid offensive defenceman, 2 potentially solid offensive defencemen and 2 solid defensive defencemen in Waugh and Oakford.. and thenthe plug, Lee (Still has potential to be the solid defenceman he was).. Throw one more solid defensive defenceman in there and we'll be looking strong. Sheffield have Fitzgerald and Phillips in their defence, they both suck and even with their other import D and O'Connor, i'd say our Defence is shaping up to be as good or better than theirs. As for forwards. I'm happy, looking good. I'd expect the returnee's to add a few more points this year, especially Lawrence and hopefully MacMillan, who certainly has the potential but just needs a confidence boost and to be a bit more selfish. Schultz can hopefully re-find his form but with Moran and ____, Moran quietly went about his business last season and almost got a PPG, he should do better now he knows the league and what to expect on a rainy night in Fife. Lawrence, if put with Carter and Brown will hopefully hit the 50-60pts mark again and inspire Carter and Brown to provide an extra 40 or so points each, maybe more.. I'd expect Carter to do that more than Brown. Farmer could provide us with more goalscoring depending on how he is used, he works well in his checking role with Cam but has a great eye for the net and some quality skill in his hands. Clarke, hopefully being partially in charge of the everchanging tactics gives him better feet to stand on and push him to a better season than the previous 2. Lachowicz has to perform better or should get the bullet, could be a game changer over the season and then Betteridge can just throw a few points in here and there, he's improving despite limited ice time so hopefully with a few more shifts each game he'll start to contribute more than just keeping the bench warm. We have a pretty good defence, a solid goaltender and a work in progress, but decent looking forwards.. I'm happy and unless we sign someone like Chris Capraro as our final forward then i'll only likely be happier with each of the final 2 additions.

Wiikman, like kowalski, is only solid when fit and both really require an import quality back up/ healthy scratch ready to jump in.

But our league is much dirtier and cheaper than the ECHL/AHL so it obviously just really wound him up enough to lose it on a few occasions, that's not Corey's fault. If you look at Henley's stats, it's obvious he likes a good fight but his +/- stats are solid across the board which surely suggests that despite him being a bit fight happy he might actually do a solid job in defence, Corey got the best out of Lepine who was practically a goon to start with, i guess he thought he could mould Henley the same way but Henley was past the stage of learning about his game and focusing on getting paid and completing his free business degree before moving straight home. That was a personal thing on Henley's part and he saw himself as the unstoppable force who will break everyone that stands in their way. As for starting that season with 3 import defencemen, we had Weaver, Norton and Lee too, that was when Lee wasn't that bad, Norton was improving and Weaver was of import quality so it wasn't a massive mistake to start with but then things got tough and we had no one to imediately slot in, which does beg the questioning of why we started with 3 defencemen so i agree with you on that one!

Corey has more than a clue on how to build a defence, we had the best defence in the league up until around late December when Wiikman & Dimmen got their recurring injuries. He can build a strong squad, usually does but it's the injuries which he struggles to do anything about, it's very much touch and go when they arise so he doesn't seem to consider the long term effect of them but instead will look towards the next game. CN - 'Will __ be out for the game?' SP - 'Yeah but he's making progress' CN -'That's good to hear, i'll leave it in your hands'.. You have to change your tactics and approach to each season depending on what rule changes there are and what other teams are doing. Look at last season, we had a very good roster.. The most productive since 2012-13 and until the injuries stuck we were either very much on par or better than our rivals. Nobody stood out head and shoulders above the rest last season, Steelers got incredibly lucky for Devils to blow it but that's down to the move from the BBT when it comes down to it. Look at other teams' defence for the coming season, Clan's best looking is Wharton, the rest are fairly average and Hendrikx is an idiot. Giants have a very mouthy but good Derrick Walser, an improving but not great Nickerson, an apparently slow Martinelli and Garside Devils have the Hothams who look very good, Fournier who is solid enough, Louis who may cost them, Batch and the ever aging Richardson, they look solid. Blaze.. Jorgenson is their best and he isn't anything special, Godfrey is average and the rest are garbage. Stars have Hart, Poulin and a couple decent looking young Brits, then Cescon. Nothing special. Caps have D'Orazio who looks like a gem, Johnson who is also looking quality, average Brits and Dobron who may or may not do alright. Not too shabby. Fife barely have a defence, got 2 signed up and both are imports. Neither are anything special. Storm, their defence looks pretty good. Toughness, offense and solidarity. Steelers have O'Connor, Ratchuk and Björklund who look decent enough. Franzon look average. Fitzgerald is very hit and miss, Phillips is dreadful and Sarich will be in a wheelchair soon. Devils look the strongest at the back, Storm look decent, Steelers look decent, Clan look alright, Giants have a couple left to sign but don't look that solid. The rest don't compare. Throw our defence in the mix and the potential addition of the stud defenceman.. We'll be up there amongst Devils in terms of strength.

I'm not disagreeing with you on the defence this year,it looks the best since the grand slam team....it seems that at last Coreys been taking notice of me on here ! The last few seasons though,it makes you wonder what on earth he's been doing with our D. Surely it isn't hard to think, mmmm I need two solid stay homes and two quality puck moving Dmen, add a couple of good Brits and there's your defence. Our problem this year is going to be scoring enough goals, there is no tried and tested sniper of note on the roster so far,or the obvious Ling type creator either.

Just spotted this guy has been released from Sweden, nothing to it just a bit of observation as I spotted his links with Sertich and Waugh when at Zagreb and is a LW. Wouldn't be the best Kolnik replacement but you never know what he could do in this league. www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=4126

Ive mentioned Gamache before and of the 2 id like him more. Jaques has played at the highest level. But has conistently been a point scorer.

This team looks like it as some depth about it, if Schultz and Moran are on a line they would need a big hard nose guy to battle with they, would Farmer be that player?
An other line that gets talked about is the 3 amigos Carter, Brown and Lawrence, looks like being a starting line up.
Then we Clarke, MacMillan and Nikiforuk and Janssen, Betterridge and Lacko making up a 4th line and with Lindhagen as a utility guy.

Corey will want to split his size up. I can see something like: Brown-Nikiforuk-Schultz Carter-Lawrence-Lacho Clarke-Moran-Betterridge Farmer-Macmillan-Janssen Corey likes to spread his firepower out. The 4th line will be a checking line but the rest will be looking to produce.

Bit of a shame to have Farmer down on the grind line, I think beyond the whole agitator gubbins he's got quite a bit of offensive upside, nice instincts when finishing, certainly more so than Lacho.

Yeah i agree he is a good player in his own right. Maybe swap him for Betterrige. But i would like to see Ollie given a chance on a scoring line. He really impressed me last year has good hands and look comfortable shooting.

Farmer is not going to improve on last seasons goal tally being on the checking line, he's a better player than that! Would Nikiforuk be the main center guy on the PP unit and Moran on the 2nd unit?
