In a nutshell. If we couldn't find a decent Dman since the time Peckham backed out......then there is either something very badly wrong at Panthers or its just spin !

Coventry and Braehead trading players. Bruton goes to the Blaze and Trimm goes back to the Clan. Think Coventry have done a good bit of business there to be honest.

So, the window slams shut in a week's time (I hope that was suitably dramatic, I'm aiming to become The Cage's answer to Jim White), who do you think we need to sign (if anyone), and who do you think we will sign?

Need a replacement for Ling, there's a few free agents who put up good points last season but this far into a season without playing they're going to take abit of time to get into their flow so we'd have to look at approaching a player currently on a roster somewhere. We also need a D man for injury cover

If only signing D men wasn't impossible. I reckon with a couple of decent import D men signed up this week to cover the injured Dimmen and bolster the reserves already you can move Mosey to forward lines and try and stop conceeding 3 goals a night! With Wiikman seemingly not getting fit any time soon Madolora needs more protection as he simply isn't a trophy winning goalie in his own right. Similar to Pinc at Sheffield, he is ok but he will only get you success with a solid D in front of him. At the moment 2 import D, Lee, Swindlehurst, Oakford and Mosey just aren't offering the protection he needs.

Id take Hayes, obviously knows Bohmer and Schultz well and has proved he can put good points up. If nobody else better is available, we could do a lot worse than sign him up.
Now for a D-man - i think this is anybodies guess!

I think Hayes would sooner have his finger nails pulled out than come back to the UK and even if he did he would probably destroy the locker room in days.

How about Matt Caria who the Storm recently released? Was going at over a point per game (45 in 40) before they bought Roehl in for him.

cant believe people are mentioning Ling Hayes and Caria in the same sentance!
To replace ling we need someone with a similar resume to Kolnik and Janssen!

Nobody's mentioning them in the same sentence. You aren't going to be able to replace Ling, the guy is a once in a lifetime offensive talent over here (even at his age). Unless we pull a top 6 forward out of the AHL we aren't realistically going to improve upon him at this stage of a season. But with the deadline looming we can't overly afford to be to picky now can we? Hayes would be a no go for me (locker room issues well documented and didn't cut it when playing in our conference) whereas it would seem Caria was let go in more of an effort to shake-up the roster, famous last words and all that but I don't think it would hurt to look in his direction.

I would rather stick Mosey on Offense and grab a two way dman and a stay at home dman. Cover for Dimmen adds depth to our defense unit which regardless of opinion is letting in three or more a game on recent form which isn't good enough. Having Mosey on offense adds a new threat entirely handling him during a rush play is hard enough but he then has to pull back to the blueline, as a forward it gives us a player to buzz around the net and has the speed to effectively recover back to cut out odd man rushes.

Ling is irreplaceable but with 7 days until deadline and this far into the season we can't afford to be too picky otherwise we will miss out on a replacement all together. Read in the Post that Corey has said Black has given him some additional funding and he is looking to sign at least 1 player, priority being a D man as we have depth going forwards already but possibly could be 2 signings. Agree with other about pushing Mosey forward and bring in 2 D men, a more physical stay at home and a 2 way player.

I would be happy with Hayes. Risky I suppose but who won't be at this time of year?

Hayes would be a valuable player but the whole bad attitude puts a lot of people off. He's asked to leave both clubs so mahbe wouldn't want to come back to the UK?

Sign a left shot stay at home mean (but mobile) d-man.
Sign a top top creative player to replace Ling.
Sign Caria and release Lawerence.

Currently in Jan, Oakford +6, Lee -2 and Mosey +10.

Plus/minus stats are ok Team, but in this league it much depends what opposition line they are up against most of the time. There is not a lot of scoring threat on the 3rd line of most EIHL teams and I would think that's who Oakford and Mosey are playing against a lot of the time.
As for signings,we need two,a Dman and a forward with the letters NHL in his resume, but not some muppet who jumped into the show for five games at the end of a season either.

Does this mean that there will be the possibility that we will get spin to say that that the right player couldn't be found or was unavailable?

I like Ollie but we need the imports and this sounds like an ideal cheap option for the panthers as usual. Lets be honest the club have dragged their feet when signing imports this season (or even not bothered at all) its hardly likely to change now no matter what spin the club put out.

We wont sign an extra import, never mind 2.
"His exit leaves a hole in a team which is working its way back to prime form, but Neilson revealed owner Neil Black has sanctioned funding for any new additions"
"the market is pretty barren right now"
Cardiff have signed Gleason Fournier and Ryan Russell so it cant be that barren can it?

Wow with just over 12 hours to the deadline not a signing in sight.....looks like that D will limp through until The next of March!!! We've got tomorrow as well, when I said midnight on the 15th I've misled you, I should've said 23:59, opposite end of the day. So expect one about then, followed by a lot about how difficult it was and how we'll try and get him here for the game on Wednesday but there's flights to arrange...
