The budget deserves to be upped though Guinnessman, our crowds are well up so we should be repaid accordingly. 13 imports plus 9 Brits v 15 imports plus 5 Brits is not a lot of difference at all cash wise. I think that is the split I would go for too. Reducing the amount spent on Brits to get a higher calibre of import. An import net tie who has the potential to be better than wiikman and kwall Dan green is as good as any Brit back up. After that, which Brits to you keep .. I think I'd rather go strong on defence with imports with at least 5 imports. That leaves 8 import forwards and a spare. Brits would be 1 defenceman and 3forwards

Import NM plus Green
5 import d plus Lee/Swindlehurst
9 import forwards plus Clarkey,Myers,Farmer
That would be my choice, with Mosey as a forward able to cover d too.

I would like to see us save the money on Lacho - he's his career progression is pointing towards him being in the EPL next season anyway - and put it towards a decent coach who has a good ECHL/AHL track record.
In nets I'd also like to see us pull the stops out and get in a good 24-27 year old keeper. Injuries are always a gamble but we should target someone who is durable and settling into 60 games a year without issues.
I'd be very happy to keep a lot of players from this year - Kolnik, Moran, Bohmbach, Schultz, Cam, Schmidt and Mosey.
The only Brit I'd ditch would be Lacho. He simply wouldn't be needed with the import limit. I think the real turning point this season for him was that Belfast goal. Many saw it as a potential end of his drought and a revival of old, which it could and should have been! However what's happened is the opposite, he's just carried on as lethargic and uninterested as before. Unfortunately, I now see him as a bit of a party boy with a wasted talent and an over-inflated opinion of himself.
...Remember when Clarke had a season a few years back when his goals went a bit lean and he even initially blamed not being able to use the System V sticks any more (could have been the Grand Slam season). Now Clarke can be an infuriating player at times, but he knuckled down and dug in for his team. He played a more defensive role and focused on previously overlooked parts of his game to still contribute. The opposite attitude of our current #7.

Two import netties will never happen.
Anyone suggesting this in this thread is wishful thinking/nuts.

There is really no reason why not though Jordan. Maybe not an experienced Canadian, but a young ish East Euro back up goalie should not be out of the question by any means.
I'm sure Rasto could recommend a few from his goalie coaching job over there.

Also Lacho has never been anything different through all the seasons he's been a Panther. To be honest I hope he goes to another elite league club now, you'll see what you're missing. 'Oh Ollie will take his place' (yes Ollie is a good player) but you all seem to go on about having players getting in the dirty areas etc, you don't need a team full of them players and you'll struggle to find a two way forward like Lacho. Regardless of all this the import ruling is going to screw over more Brits anyway as I do believe it's going up again next season. So can imagine Oaky going elsewhere

Mosey can do his job better and then the extra import we get in can be a goal scorer or a grinder. We need a team that's fully committed to the cause and that includes getting in the dirty areas. A player who doesn't get in their and get involved is letting the team down in my opinion.

His role has been changed, if he was told to use his speed he would, that's generally how hockey works you go play based off of your instructions. There aren't many players in this league that can back check like he can, if we could count the number of times a season he strips people of the puck in the latter 2/3rds of the ice i bet he'd be in the top 10 every year. You're focusing on point production and comparisons to his game a few years ago. Coaches change how they utilise players and it's ridiculous that half the people on here can't see it.

Lacho used to be brilliant defensively, a real nuisance that could dive in and take pucks away with ease. I've been to all but one game this year and seen him do something like that maybe 4 or 5 times all season. As for coaches using players differently, Corey hasn't tried to alter his game at all. For large spells this season he tried pairing him with Schultz & Bohmbach!

If he had a point production like he did a few years back I'm wondering if we might have won a few more games? Points mean prizes after all. Extra 20 points from him and just look at how that would have changed some results. Think he'll be of much more value elsewhere and we go get Boxill back in his place.

Lacho was paired with Schultz/Bohmbach and Kolnik/Moran for a good while and he's still only scored about a point every three games, that's poor.
Blimey, who does he want for line mates Crosby and Ovechkin !

He's been paired with them yes, but look at the others he paired them with all have been defensively minded or puck containment players. He's also tried using Lacho as a center this season, you're either blind or completely ignorant of you csn honestly say you don't see a difference in how he's being used. His main area of use this season has been in neutral zone coverage and floating high in the defensive zone. He's a secondary scorer his best assets are his defensive abilities. He's always a main stay PK man has been for years for a reason.his point production has been poor even for a secondary scorer but he's been of more use at relieving pressure at the red line than anyone else on the team. If he does go and gets put into a new system guarantee he'd be used in almost the same fashion. All i see from the way he's utilised is restriction and not a player that we seem to allow to roam more freely and take risks.

Taking points production out of the equation. Which is still part of his role.
He may well still do a job defensively in his own defensive zone. However if you are playing a defensive forward role you have to retain the puck at the other end. I lost count many moons ago how many turnovers happened purely from Lachos poor puck control. All too often he has full control of the puck and he makes a bad pass or then loses control and the opposition are attacking up the other end very quickly. He has had a terrible season up to the last 8-10 games where he has shown some improvement. I'm sorry but constantly turning the puck over with poor play has nothing to do with role playing. Points production maybe but not puck retention.

I'm sure Rasto could recommend a few from his goalie coaching job over there. A young ish East euro is hardly a top class import nettie..... This is a possibility though, would mean Dan Green going elsewhere. I think certain others here believe we can somehow hold two top class keepers on the roster, it's impossible & impractical.

I agree Jordan that we won't start a season with two real quality import netminders.
But you would be surprised at the young Euro's,they are treated like machines over there, training two or sometimes three times a day,it's the old Eastern block mentality, train, train and train again until you can do it well. A twenty ish year old Slovak nettie would be head and shoulders above Greeners quality,I've been over there and watched them train and play and they were damn good.

If you counted up the number of giveaways he would be probably be in the top 3 in the league. He wouldn't have to be on the back check so much if he didn't constantly turn the puck over. I do not expect Lacho to go into corners making hits but I expect him to take his to make a play which he refuses to do. You watch him and you will see if will purposely slow up so that he does not go into the corner first because he does not want to be hit. Lacho has the speed and ability to go round players and drive to the net but he refuses to as he does not want to go into the dirty areas of the ice. take Mosey for an example he will use his speed to beat a player down the outside and then drive to the net and take the hack and wacks that come with it.
