As Thommo is want to do, he breaks the season down into blocks of games, and sets his teams goals of picking so many points from that mini block of games. So given our next 7 games are Cardiff (A), Steelers, Giants (A x 2), Clan/Stars/flyers triple header - how many points will we pick up from those games. I think we'll do well to win 4, those being Steelers, one one of the Giants, and two from the triple header. Any more than that, we've done well. Any less would be disappointing.

Well if we want that league title we need to be picking up 9 or 10 points from those seven games.

Aim for 14 points. There's no reason we can't get them if we play well.

The team will be aiming for 14 points, but I as a fan will be aiming for 10 and be happy with 8.
You've got to think that it's unrealistic to expect to go on a 7 game winning streak here, so aiming for 10 is ambitious enough whilst being realistic.

Win 4 - lose one in over time and lose 2 in regulation would be a decent return I think. (so Im in agreement with most the posters above)
It is a tough run though.

I'd look at it like Cardiff and Belfast games are 4 pointers so are must wins. Win them and then lose to a Gardiner team is just pants, so need to win those games too. Any game against steelers irrelevant of league position needs to see a W at the end.
So from the next 7 games anything less than 14 points will be disappointing.

In all honesty with the team we have right now we should be winning all 7 of these games. When we play like we have done for the past month we find ways to win games regardless of legs, possession or score line. Good teams find way to win games and those teams take the spoils at the end of the year. I expect a loss but I think we should be taking 12 points minimum from them.

Will depend on injuries, if we are without McMillan and we are already without Schultz then it's going to be hard. Not be of these games are easy. Ideally I'd like to get a minimum of ten points... But one game at a time...

Win all made headway at the top of the league let the rest battle out for second, no point thinking about losing. Want to get a run going and keep a good mentality, winners win, losers lose, that simple

Devils away will be a horribly tough game, will likely take most of the energy from the guys but a win is possible, very possible. They are a dirty team and if we play physical and don't take the stupid roughing and slashing penalties they often do, we should out play them. They're easy to wind up and easy to draw penalties from, our PP needs to step up their game and now we've got Hardy i feel we might start puting a few more PPG's in. 1 point would be alright but 2 is what we need and is what we can get.
Steelers on Sunday will be tougher than paper suggests, as always. They're all fighting for their jobs, Thommo has no faith in his goaltenders and their defence is very leaky. Desbiens should be here in time for the game so that might mix things up a bit, he likes to fight. We need to start striking early in games and killing momentum, we can't allow teams to get the better of us for half the game before starting to create our chances as we've seen quite frequently this season. A win is what we should be aiming for, no less.
a 3 point weekend minimum is what we have to get imo. We need to push the Devils back a bit and add yet more misery to those northerners.

Cardiffs PP is 26/27%, so we definately need to keep out of the box in that one. Steelers however have a lowly 11%, but have also conceded regularly to a short-handed goal.

It's nothing to do with him. He has carried a defence that may not of been built for the hockey we are playing for way to long and it is now showing.
The D core was built with Peckham at it's centre and now without him it's a bit of a scramble. Add injuries to that and you can easily see why we've struggled.
Also factor in that every team has a dip in form at some point so let's not get crazy just yet.

I always thought we'd get a better impression of where this team will finish by Christmas when the home and away games are about even.
But the D does seem to have started shipping goals once Hardy joined.

To me, Wiikman has, right from the start, been pretty decent in stopping the first shot but has always given up rebounds. The D were especially good in getting their sticks in and clearing out those pucks initially ... but now not so.

So it turns out that 6 was the (not so) magic number.
None of us guessed it would be that low?

Just did a few quick calculations.
From the start of the season (excluding friendlies) up until the Caps double header we were averaging 1.8 goals against with an average of 2.1 against away from home - so a fraction better at home.
Since the Caps weekend we have played once at home and conceded 6 but we are averaging 3.8 goals against.
In effect our D has got twice as bad since this difficult run of fixtures. I would have expected it to get worse, but not by that much!

Any less would be disappointing. so at the end of that 7 game run we picked up 6 pts. Hardly championship winning form but hey ho. so we move on to the next 7 game block, which sees us through the Christmas period. We really need to be looking at winning 6 games out of 7.

So the next 7 we kick off with a home game against Cardiff, this will be an extremely tough game against a good side but I feel the Panthers have got a point to prove after this weekend and with us being on our favoured home ice I believe we will just pip them but it will be very difficult, the following night it's the storm away, with the storm as long as we keep our defence tight we should be able to stop them from scoring and we should beat them.
We then have the stumbling block in the form of the Steelers double header, if we play like we did in the first two league games against them then it should be a piece of cake, but the Steelers are starting to get their bearings now after the poor start that they have had they are looking better, I've got a feeling that we will split the games with a win each, the win coming at home and potentially both games I feel will go into OT.
The next two matches are both against the Blaze, the blaze don't worry me at all and we should beat them in both matches. We finally top it off with a home fixture against the Capitals, a high scoring side who are very good on the break utilising their speed to cripple teams, they aren't great defensively so if we can have a good game defensively we will create the chances and no doubt we will score them.
This week I feel is vital in preparation for this run of games, after the addition of Lawrence last week it seemed as though the lines were constantly changing over the weekend, if we can nail the lines this week and ensure we have Wiikman back to full fitness we should put our selfs in a great position, fingers crossed we have one certain Mr Schultz to come back at some point as well

The fact that we're not on the road as much now and we're still doing well, is a big bonus. It would have been nice to get a few more points but considering the standings, it could be a lot worse. Winning on Saturday is crucial. And it has to be regulation. Hopefully Mikka will be back at full health, Swindlehurst can play and Betteridge back, well only be one import down (obviously 2 out but we have a spare) so we can get back on track.
