A long time since we were last privy to the discussions at the EIHL Board Meetings but this, I think, is a very interesting and enjoyable (less formal) review given by Todd Kelman with Seth Bennett asking the questions. ps. Is anyone else jealous of the fact we don't have a progressive leader at the helm, like TK? www.eliteleague.co.uk/november-board-meeting/

Not sure I really care how progressive the GM is so long as we're financially secure, selling tickets and remaining competitive.

Panthers should be looking to sell out the majority of Saturday night home games... Especially with the success we've had over past 6 years. But apart from Steelers (yawn) we never seem to do it. Marketing is the key, which rests solely at the door of the GM. Said it before, but the 'tell a friend' and slapping a few posters on bins in the city centre for me doesn't cut it. And that's before I start on the whole dreary match night 'experience' Hasn't changed in 8+ years. Edit - tell a lie... The thunder cats have even 'given it best'

Panthers presence is not very evident in the Mansfield/Ashfield area - a largely untapped area to recruit fans. In fact I see far too many Steelers stickers.

The thunder cats have even 'given it best' Much as you may want us to, nobody in this country has ever sold out a 7,000 seater arena every weekend. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we've got the highest average attendance this country has ever seen, we're actually in the top 50 in Europe! It definitely lies at the door of GM, but is that a good or bad thing? We're far more prevalent in Nottinghamshire advertising than the Steelers are in Sheffield or the Giants are in Belfast, I think your expectations are a little unrealistic mate. Moran is a popular hate figure and he's certainly annoying (the commentary is embarrassing) but he's good at his job. His job is to get the fans through the door and keep us afloat, we've got the highest attendances and probably still the healthiest bottom line too. What would you change for the match night experience? 4 periods?

Valid point and GM is good at certain parts of what should be a multi person job but that point really shows how dire most of the other teams are at PR more than anything else. The current Panthers standard of PR should be the base level for any team in 2015. Television is the holy grail of any sport but over the years the bigger teams have had to support dead causes like Hull to make up the league numbers and in return these teams that have been supported have shown that they couldn't sell water in a desert. The PR needs to be at a league level now to push the league forwards.

I do want us to fill the place Dan you’re right :-) I’m sure like yourself, I'm passionate about Panthers and our clubs continued success. But just because no one has ever sold out every weekend, doesn't mean we shouldn't try? In recent years the games against Belfast and Coventry have been far more competitive and edgey games than the ones against Steelers, but for some reason they can't pull in more than an average Saturday night crowd? It just leaves me a bit frustrated and feel that the club are resting on their laurels and that we’ll keep turning up time after time (and true as a season ticket holder for 11 years I will). But it’s further encouraging the walk ups and even those that live in Nottinghamshire but have never been to a Panthers game that we need to tap into somehow?
Let's say Panthers have a 4000 solid core of fans that regularly turn up (Possibly higher) I'm sure that out there with a bit more effort, they can find the extra 2/3k needed to fill the place? I know for example, that Forest attendances are slipping. Perhaps there’s a ‘family’ friendly source there that can be tapped into… It’s far cheaper than a trip to the City Ground that’s for sure :-)
As for enhancing the match night experience: * A new play list and less "come on panthers fans, clap your hands to this one" (I personally cringe, but know it’s not the PA chaps fault). * Perhaps a merchandise ‘give away’ during each period (t-shirt cannon or perhaps Paws throwing some into the crowd?) * Our advertising 'partners' giving away a few freebies or discounts (Could do with some new mud flaps!! * More bars open around the concourse so you can actually move? (The Arena is in charge I know but I imagine it’s because Panthers don’t pay for them to be) * Using the scoreboard to better effect, not just birthdays, what about lucky seat draws or something?
I don't know the full answer as not my area of expertise and I do know that some of this would cost extra to the organization. But I just feel it needs a refresh… surely I’m not the only one on the here that thinks this?
