It was interesting to see Ryan being interviewed by G.M. post highlights Caps game. Never seen an opposing player being interviewed before & Gary's last question was intriguing, as was Ryan's response given with a knowing/rueful look. Just thinking with Waugh about to return & the unfortunate injury to Shultz we may be taking another look? Had a chat with a Caps fan in block 15 post game, his take was that it wouldn't be long before they lost him to a 'big money offer' (I know we're supposed to be spent up but no-one but the Owners, G.M. & Corey will know this for sure). Your thoughts on this & could you please enlighten a reasonably recent newbie on the rules, if any, regarding players switching clubs mid season? Nice to see Caps improving btw, they look decent this season.

A player can't leave an EIHL team and join another EIHL team in the same season without their previous team permission

A player can't leave an EIHL team and join another EIHL team in the same season without their previous team permission Thanks for that. So technically possible but highly unlikely I guess, any history of it happening before?

A player can't leave an EIHL team and join another EIHL team in the same season without their previous team permission Thats technically correct. If a Player leaves and EIHL team then he can't be signed without permission If the player is released, then he can go wherever he wants. This is where conflict of interest comes in to play. There was some "odd" moves in the Coventry / Hull scenario. so far it hasn't come up with Panthers / Clan but it might. There has also been some questionable "release" of players.

Not just Hayes though.
The Caps currently have 5 scorers in the top 15 atm !!!
It would be absolutely dire if Nottingham did engineer a move of Hayes to them this season though. Maybe CN should have offered more money for him during the off season. Maybe Hayes knew he would get more ice time with Edinburgh to showcase himself more. Maybe Hayes is doing a degree at Uni. Who knows but it will be interesting to see what he does next year. My guess the lure of Europe will be too much.

There was the Champagne/Shields switch with Sheffield/Belfast few seasons ago (at least I think it was champagne)

A player can't leave an EIHL team and join another EIHL team in the same season without their previous team permission That used to be just for British players. Perhaps it has changed.

I agree, Caps being competitive is good for the league and hopefully will put bums on seats at Murrayfield. I wish Shultz all the best in his recovery but if it's ligaments we will need a short term replacement at least.

When we released Simoes we blocked his move to sheffield somehow despite us doing the sacking.

After a two week break any team can sign any player now under EU law.

We didn't block Simoes,we couldn't as we let him go.......he blocked the move himself.
The guy said "no way was he being used by the Steelers as a puppet just because he had played at Panthers".

Err. And did he play Shorty...No. Did he hang around for a later chance to do it after Panthers invoked the two week clause....No.
He said he wasn't being used as a puppet between the two teams and stuffed off !

Some interesting views. Going back to my original point though, did anyone else find it odd that an opposing player was interviewed post game? Probably nothing in it but G.M's question & Ryan's response regarding the facilities and fans was indicative of two childhood sweethearts meeting at a school reunion years later, with a distinct whiff of "if only" ?

I answered the question that we had invoked the two week clause. Your post suggested a different point of view and now you state we did invoke the two week clause.

an odd one this, I'd have much preferred to hear from one of our own players but seen as this is what we've been given I'll shed my little bit of light on it. Generic interview until the end, saw it as a "this is what you could have" type of thing and Ryan saying "yeah it's nice here I'll think about coming over next year"

I don't like this. If another team did it we would be up in arms. Not 100% saying we are doing something wrong but release midweek we wanted to sign him then interview him after the game we have just played; something we have never done with an opposing player. Just doesn't seem right to do it.

Only got around to watching it today. While it's a bit strange that the only occasion an opposing player has been interviewed on the highlights package is when it is (a) the league's top scorer, who is coincidentally (b) a player we openly were interested in signing for this season. The actual interview itself was fairly standard stuff, certainly wouldn't see it as tapping the player up for a move. GM's questions can be a bit cringeworthy no matter who he's interviewing (our own players frequently look bemused or embarrassed) so asking potentially uncomfortable "don't you wish you'd come here not Edinburgh" type stuff is hardly surprising. The strangest thing to me is not that Hayes was interviewed (in fact I enjoyed hearing an opposition viewpoint on the game), it is that he was the only interview included - no representative from the Panthers' playing, coaching or backroom staff giving their views at all.

If I remember correctly the panthers heard he was going to play for steelers against us so they invoked the clause of the fortnight release period and this took him past the official signing deadline at that time?....

What a weird interview, probably because as you say we haven't done that before with an opposing player. There's a hidden agenda there and it doesn't feel comfortable.
