watched on the webcast and already looks like we're more gifted both offensively and defensively even with 6 imports missing hard on the forecheck and passing looked a lot more fluid. newbies: Wiikman - impressed me, cool, calm and collected and made some good stops, couldnt do anything about the goal. Swindlehurst - Big unit of a man, skates well and very composed, good outlet passes Waugh - similar to what someone said above, very similar to Jason Beckett but more mobile, looks a very good pickup, good goal. Dimmen - again another mobile Dman, didnt really see much of him to be honest indicating a pretty quiet game. Betteridge - better than i ever remembered, good work in the corners and good on the puck, should hit similar numbers to boxill on this showing, very impressed and great goal MacMillan - not sure what i was expecting particularly but reminded me of Max last year, pretty quiet but worked hard all in all a good performance and a good win. didnt see much to excite me about Coventry, still early days but with 2 imports to come in i wouldnt be overly worried about them challenging this year, especially with the 6ft 7 slovakian traffic cone being their top Dman, watching him trying to fight Clarke was quite frankly embarrassing, will take a tonne of stupid penalties this year Betteridge is a lot bigger this year and I think he will turn out to be a big upgrade on Boxy.

Just to clarify, Coventry were down 3 imports...Fisher, Lawrence and Noble who warmed up, but did not play. They were also missing there best brit in Tait.

Firstly i was impressed by Panthers considering they were short benched. As has been said both sides had promising youngsters on show. I do however disagree about Valabik. He looked competent to me and i am not in the least bit worried. As for the incident you mentioned i was more embarrassed watching Clarke's bravado drop from willingly trying to fight Chalmers to hiding behind a melee of players when offered by Valabik. Still not sure anything much can be taken from last night due to the strength of the rosters but both sides have encouraging signs to go forward with.

Thing is with valabik floating around chalmers has the freedom to have nibbles at Clarke because he knows he's backed up and if a player was doing it to be I'd have done what Claire did and give him a nudge ect but when a guy comes over who is clearly much bigger and tougher then you its sensible to back up, your issue isn't with him and yes it his job to protect but come on buddy in what world is Clarke going to fight valabik it's nothing to do with bravado. I thought it was a good hockey game and panthers came out to play, nice to see a willingness to compete and win the puck, thought mosey again was stand out his speed and versatility are priceless to the team, the defence looked solid showed some real quality and going forward we looked good. Good to see lacho playing with some confidence again, farmer continues to get better, having Myers back is a big plus and Betteridge puts himself about and the other Brits who filled in did a job. Thought Macmillan took a little while to get in the game but did a good job in the corners and seems to be an upgrade of Parent with some Benedict quality to his play, and when the other 6 arrive that will only help the cause, looking forward to seeing the full team out and up to speed and here hoping that Janssen makes a B line for tanaka because he's got it coming.

...in what world is Clarke going to fight valabik... ...hoping that Janssen makes a B line for tanaka because he's got it coming. Presumably those two things happen in the same world? Didn't see the game so can't comment, but seems a decent result given most of our import lineup is elsewhere. We were shutout until Marr took over in nets mind you. Hopefully a few more in for the weekend so they can get some ice time together before the season starts.

I didn't mean Janssen to fight tanaka I'm just looking for him to run him over, he'd never fight him but he needs putting on his back. we made good plays and had our chances against Stewart we just didn't put enough on net, some wayward shots, all will come good as they sharpen up and the new boys arrive

Hmmm, not sure this is the correct thread but he was signed as our 2nd line centre and ended up being forced as our top line centre as Graham was junk. Leading points scorer for us too...i rated the guy. Each to there own.

Not one of the worst but one of the most annoying Panthers I have had the misfortune to watch. So glad we didn't sign him again.

Leading points scorer for us too...i rated the guy. Each to there own. For a couple of games he was excellent but the rest of the season he went OWAL. Don't really care how good he was/is he just didn't bother to put the effort in 90% of the time so for me over the season he was pretty much like a lot of the rest of the team, a complete waste of space.

Given the flack that Green gets at times shouldn't we give him any credit as 2nd netman in this first game also..,,,less about how we scored on Coventry's reserve?

Awesome webcast quality. Panthers need to do the same. They can take some good things away with their play. Clean cut sports streaming is awesome coverage, worth every penny. Wish Panthers done the same. Financially, £8 to watch a webcast that a few people could watch together or £14 to £17 per person to watch at the NIC.

However when I'm sick, or unable to attend away games, i always buy the stream. I think it'd gain them more than it lost them. Just like we fill coaches to away games even though they have decent streams.

Well I watched the stream Blaze v Panthers and I live and support Cardiff, I paid to watch a game of hockey, when Devils play at yours I wouldn't travel, but I would buy the stream. Devils stream there games and it doesn't seem to impair on attendances. At the moment, Giants,Steelers, Devils, Blaze stream so it can't be detrimental to there clubs. There's no way you can beat going to a live game, and you guys have the Mutts Nutts when it comes to venues, but I believe there's many fans out there like me who would pay to watch Panthers if it was available.

How do you know that? Maybe it is. Ps. Their. Not a chance of GM regularly streaming Panthers games while we are not selling out.

Clan's CHL game against Vaxjo sold out 3 days before the game, even though it'll be live on Premier Sports. Clan are one of the teams who don't provide webcasts - a policy which will hopefully change if we consistently sell out this season. The plug could always be pulled if attendances were being adversely affected.

Would be nice to see Steelers games regularly online though. Baby steps and all that!
