Oh he will Shorty......next season is going to be fun watching this unfold and then go terribly wrong ! At least,Simmsy will be able to give his "brother" a lift to the arena to save money. Wonder if they've told poor old Gerad yet......he ain't gonna be happy !!!!! Is this anything more than guesswork/ pure speculation? Sent from my LG-D802 using proboards

Info about the U20 league is here : www.icehockeyuk.co.uk/files/IHUK_U20_National_League_Meeting_May_2_2.pdf
Also to be fair, I'm not sure what you expect G to say after just being sacked. We'd all be a bit annoyed if it was us wouldn't we? Kudos to him for remaining professional, it would be so easy to have a proper go about it. He can hold his head high, he achieved good things in Sheffield. But, it remains the clubs prerogative to change head coaches whenever they like. None of us know what the setup is going to be. Once we do know we *may* see the reasoning behind what has happened.
I'm shocked and disappointed as is every other Steeler fan I've spoken to but we have to trust Tony decision. Time will tell if it was right or wrong.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with striving to be the best on and off the ice. The alternative is to re-employ a coach that has failed miserably for the last 2 years....
Trophies in the last 2 years: Nottingham Panthers 2 Sheffield Steelers 2 If that's your definition of 'failed miserably' then you can't be as shocked and disappointed about Gerad Adams leaving as you've made out surely? If you reckon the conference trophy is worth comparing to the playoff championship and league title, then please stop with all the "grand slam" talk.....

Arguably it's harder to win than both of those, it was the league who devalued it by producing the Grand Slam poster on their website but that doesn't make the conference not worth winning. Personally I never understood why it was called a Grand Slam in the first place because that's not really a phrase ever used in ice hockey circles (maybe because in other leagues there is only one major trophy whereas because this is Britain we have to follow how football works). But if the EIHL are going to call it a Grand Slam (whether I agree with it or not) I'll take it because it sounds better than treble

Oooh Gerad isn't happy in the Star ! Would you be, it's important to try to get both sides. Gerad is now better off out of it, once you find out people ain't what they appear to be, it's better to go and let them play there games without you. G is too talented to be out of work long, hopefully he will find out a smaller club with genuine people is a better deal than a big club with false folk.

He's probably waiting for Thursday's press conference in Sheffield where they were hoping to unveil the coach of the future, the guy who was far better and supposedly more professional than Gerad........but they are having to settle for Thommo !

Tony Smith is gambling massively with all of this... and no matter how much spin the Steelers put on it, the logic seems somewhat shaky. Even if Gerad Adams needed to be replaced on 'professionalism' grounds (Steelers and professionalism? - are you KIDDING me? ), even if he didn't deliver the level of success that was expected (league title and 2 finals appearances... kind of indicates not so much that they won the league but that everyone else lost it, yes?)... this sacking look well dodgy on several levels:- - what kind of message does this send to potential future recruits? (in both playing and coaching roles) - the Steelers don't just want you to win, they want you to win it ALL - and if you don't, you're out. I've known managers who employ this kind of 'motivation' and it never, ever works out well in the long run. Adams' comments in The Stir today only reinforce that. - the Steelers are in European competition next season... next pre-season in fact. They need not only to get a roster able to take on much better European opposition, but they need to get their roster finalised early. So what do they do? Waste almost an entire month sacking their current coach and sitting twiddling their thumbs whilst another one is sorted out. Way to go on the preparation front, guys... - as an adjunct to that last point... one of the Steelers' weaknesses (and one which their own fans have pointed out) is the relative weakness of their British player contingent overall. Jono Philips may be unfairly slated, I think - useful, if not world-beating... Ben O'Connor is a fantastic offensive D-man, although his defensive work can leave a fair bit to be desired... Rob Dowd is still a plus, even if he goes AWOL for long periods... but Mark Thomas? Jason Hewitt? They really don't match up. And see what's happening with all of the British players (as happens every year) - they get snapped up quickly. Steelers might have blagged Swindlehurst or Dave Philips if they'd had a coach in place already... but they didn't. Oopsie. - a lot of the speculation about the Steelers' new coach is centring around Paul Thompson. On pure coaching grounds, that one could be argued either way, I suppose. But isn't he still a part owner of the Coventry Blaze? If so... bad enough that one man might own 2 teams (and Neil Black gets slated for that on a regular basis)... but (part) owning one and coaching another? There's a nasty smell, and it ain't hockey gloves... Tony Smith is trying to portray himself as some kind of super-owner... a better businessman than the rest, some kind of crusader maybe? Looks to me like his ego is writing pretty large cheques... and it's going to be up to the team to cash them. That could get very interesting very quickly. Grab the popcorn, guys & gals... this could be entertaining!
