Whilst I think talk about bucket collections and the Steelers going bust yet again is probably somewhat OTT, this hardly shows the Steelers' management in a great light. No doubt many Sheffield fans will disagree with that, but hey - it's not just the Panthers' PRs that are laden with spin, they all do it - and Sheffield more than most. Just some of the wording is enough to ring alarm bells... Gerad Adams saying "I delivered a title that the organisation has been after for some time, so I leave with my head held high. I am very proud of what I achieved and will conduct myself now on a professional basis". It doesn't take much thought to translate that... "I won them the league and they sacked me? I'm totally <censored> off, but I'm not going to say anything in public because I'm a bigger man than that". Got to wonder what kind of message this sends out to potential coaches (and players?) - winning the league and getting to 2 finals isn't enough... nothing but everything is enough - don't get too comfy here! And then there's all the bigging-up of the proposed U20s side, supposedly to provide the Steelers with a steady stream of young British players. Hang on a minute... haven't they had the EPL Steeldogs and the NIHL sides available to do that? Oh yes, that's right... they don't get along at all, so great young local prospects like Ben Bowns go elsewhere (something that many Steelers fans have criticised their club for). Perhaps this is more about control than anything else. I did have to laugh at one of Tony Smith's comments... "Modern day sport requires a team of full time professionals. On and off the ice." - yeah, right... how anyone with DS The BS on their staff can say that with a straight face is beyond me. Getting dizzy with all that spin are we, Tony? It's been said by more than a few Sheffield fans that when we won the league, we did so against weak opposition that year. Cobblers, I say - but there you go. But if an angle like that has to be considered, wouldn't this sacking seem to indicate that Tony Smith knows that his club didn't so much 'win' the league as simply outlast everyone else who went and lost it?

Neil Abel, the assistant coach has also now been released, as has Andre Payette from the Steeldogs and the academy. It looks like a good clear out so some "new" personalities who do get on with each other can come in and run the lot.
DS has not exactly been helpful to the relationship between Steelers and Steeldogs/Juniors, I wonder if a P45 awaits him on his return from his hols.

Might get the links between Steelers and Steeldogs a bit closer.

Also to be fair, I'm not sure what you expect G to say after just being sacked. We'd all be a bit annoyed if it was us wouldn't we? Kudos to him for remaining professional, it would be so easy to have a proper go about it. He can hold his head high, he achieved good things in Sheffield. But, it remains the clubs prerogative to change head coaches whenever they like. None of us know what the setup is going to be. Once we do know we *may* see the reasoning behind what has happened.
I'm shocked and disappointed as is every other Steeler fan I've spoken to but we have to trust Tony decision. Time will tell if it was right or wrong.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with striving to be the best on and off the ice. The alternative is to re-employ a coach that has failed miserably for the last 2 years....

Trophies in the last 2 years: Nottingham Panthers 2 Sheffield Steelers 2 If that's your definition of 'failed miserably' then you can't be as shocked and disappointed about Gerad Adams leaving as you've made out surely?

Steelers fans 3 years ago
"It's not a Grand Slam, you didn't win the conference"
Steelers fans this year
"What have the Panthers won this year?"
*Disclaimer, you can replace "Steelers" with Blaze, Giants, etc etc

Have to agree to disagree, the only thing we won was an elevation in our seeding at the Play Offs... Can't claim to win a Grand Slam one day, disregarding the Conference title, then two years later claim we won something that mattered. I am sure to 99.9% of the fans they could not give two hoots about the Conference Title, god the Arena was emptying like a Fire Alarm drill the night they handed that over... Very few cared...

I'm thinking someone who left the EIHL a few years ago and has since been fired once and then relocated to another country and failed there as well. Wonder if he will bring anyone with him from that failed experiment.

Don't worry people.....Forney won't be feeling such a smart hairy bum when he finds out who's replacing Big G ! The smart money seems to be on Paul Thompson. Going back a few years I would guess both The Cage and Steeltalk had supporters asking their club to do what it takes to get Paul Thompson in charge. Since then his stock has fallen considerably, with a poor few years at the Blaze followed by a couple of failed years in Europe. He certainly doesn't float my boat, but if it is him, I'll certainly give him a chance to prove me wrong. Regards Doom

Wonder if they've told poor old Gerad yet......he ain't gonna be happy !!!!!
