You are not wrong. Although I think God would struggle turning an oil tanker into a speed boat. When he signed (no mention of a multi-year): Panthers.co.uk1 out of 3 ain't bad.

OMG.... Nooooooooooo
But delighted with Farmer and Lee. Let's hope Lee has better luck next season, been unlucky with injury. Just need Lacho to sign up now. I am also pleased for oakford, had mixed reviews, but he is a good prospect and just needs a good team around him.

feel very much like i did when i heard Jacina had returned last year. very underwhelmed and dissapointed we couldnt shift the dead wood, of which i class Schmidt as one of them. very slow, didnt contribute much at all offensively and did little defensively too, dissapointed.
hopefully can improve this year, with a year in Nottingham already under his belt

We could have signed Berbue, now he was shocking.. Agree, I thought Schmit just seemed a little slow but with a better team around him, he may do much better.

Berube's probably getting a doctorate or something and will be here forever. Honestly, these uni courses must be worth a fortune and we're using one on Schmidt? Baffling.

If it wasn't for the Uni deal, he'd be gone. Panthers forced into signing him. Don't want to annoy a university sponsorship they've only just got!

my thoughts are that another year on, he'll know a lot more about what's expected of him, and about the league. With the Uni course added on it (possibly) means we don't have to pay him as much, so means more to spend on some-one else. He's not exactly the marquee signing to get every-one excited but it could have been worse..

Not particularly pleased about this, I know he's a stay at home D but his stick skills were poor, always seemed to mishandle the puck. He was slow and had the turning circle of an oil tanker.
He also spent time on the powerplay and contributed nothing - presume he was only there due to injuries.
Positionally was ok though.
Very very average signing. I hope I'm proved wrong next season.

He'll be a sport scholar hopefully at Uni so will have a bursary from the uni which will contribute to his wages. Nothing special would have liked to have seen something better from our first import signing and maybe even a decision on who iur coach is as corey hasn't been confirmed to be staying or going. Let's hope the next guy in is something to get us excited about.

While I’ve obviously not seen this guy at much as all you have, I wouldn’t worry too much about it at this stage. As we all know, ice hockey is based on some very fine margins, and we’ve seen it countless times that a player we perceive as “rubbish” or simply “below par” can look completely different class when mixed in with other players in different systems, chemistry etc.

Typical. Steelers sign players like Roy and Fretter to multi-year contracts and we waste ours on Schmidt who was one of the weakest players on an already ordinary team. hopefully if he's not on a high wage as has been suggested then maybe we can run him as a spare import

It was a breath of fresh air when Lee returned from injury. A defenceman who actually takes the body! Pity it didn't rub off on Schmidt and Berube.

No disrespect to the guy, but, seriously??
Stinks of a GM signing rather than a coaches signing

It's just a continuation deal presumably, last year he must've signed for 2 to cover the term of the uni course (which let's pray isn't a 3 year job). Who wasted a 2 year uni course on this guy?
Of course he might be better next year, but he's just as likely (more likely) be the same but another year older and slower. Starting off on the back foot.

Wasn't Lawrence on a Uni deal aswell? I'm sure he mentioned it when he was on the Locker Room.

I'm ok with Schmidt,he's better than people think and good positionally if a bit slow, had a couple of scraps too. You don't play where he's played by being a bad player.
Stay at home Dmen are never going to set the fans on fire, look at Nick Toneys the fans really liked him.....and yet although he was faster,he was a serious downgrade on Schmidt !

No disrespect to the guy, but, seriously?? Stinks of a GM signing rather than a coaches signing If Corey isn't confirmed - who else would have the authority to sign players? At the back of my mind was the possibility that Oakford might not sign again which would have paved the way for say Hook. Regarding comments about Jacina - I think he has a lot to offer.

All of the signings are either continuous or young Brits who need signing up ASAP. The fact Corey still hasn't been announced tells me he's not coming back.

What about a face-off guy or god forbid 2, the number of time Panthers lost the puck on a face-off in oppositions end because the lack of puck winner, and another thing will playing 4 line hockey reduce the money spent on a 1st line trio?
