I don't get your confusion.
This is an IIHF ban, the player has to miss games. Only the EIHL insist that bans are imposed on the 'import slot' so this ban, being non EIHL does not affect the team. As verified by not only IHUK but the IIHF themselves.
If he had been banned by the EIHL, we would play short, but he hasn't been, so we don't have to.
This has never been anything different.
People are getting confused because of Campbell's ban in 2010, but that was different. He received 4 games, 3 of which were imposed by the EIHL, and 1 game by the IIHF as a result of an infringement in Australia. We played an import short for 4 games because: A, 3 games were EIHL so we had to. B, Although we could have played a replacement for his 1 game IIHF ban, who would we sign for 1 game? And we didn't have a spare import at the time.
Hope that clears it up.
EIHL bans - affect the import slot on a team. IIHF bans - affect the player only, like every other sport.

The level of misunderstanding is hilarious. Comments about Steelers running the league; just as much.
Read what Nemesis has written. It makes sense. The same would be applied to ANY team that this happened to. Stop with the conspiracy theories.
It's amazing how worked up some people get.

The only question here should be is the ban player based or team based in the EIHl,simple as that. If Steelers are allowed to play a full quota of imports, then what would happen if say Fife sent Nickerson out to purposely injure a Steelers player and Nickerson got banned, could Fife sign a replacement and then play a full roster,of course they couldn't !It would seem that by Sheffields rules they could. In my view,Sheffield signed him and took a chance, now they don't like the outcome and the rules suddenly change. What a surprise eh,and people think Panthers run the league !!!! Presumably the ban would be imposed by the EIHL. Therefore the EIHL rules would apply; they'd have to play an import down for the number of games of the ban. Like has happened for any and all other bans imposed by the EIHL.

It will be interesting to see what happens if we end up with a CHL ban.

WOW! I have just watched the highlights of Belfast's recent victory against Sheffield. A Sheffield forward goes through in the dying stages of the game and shoots at the empty net from quite close in. Unfortunately for Sheffield the forward misses the goal by a long way and Belfast go up the other end and equalize and eventually win on penalties. It was a crazy miss. From around 7 minutes and 50 seconds.... Highlights
