Anyone know any good books that give personal insights to the game? Maybe even a book of anecdotes and short stories.
I've read Paul Thompson book but that's about it hockey wise.

Theo Fleury playing with Fire is possibly the best hockey autobiography I've read.
Martin Broduers book is good as well.

Ken Dryden, former Canadiens goalie, wrote two excellent books, The Game and Home Game. Part biography, part thoughtful and perceptive observations on the sport in general.

I've got an interesting one from an NHL ref's perspective... Kerry Fraser "The Final Call"... somewhat egocentric, but a good read.

"Tough Guy: My Life on the Edge" by Bob Probert.

Theo Fleury's is a good read, so is Tony Hand's book. There is also one that focused on the Austin Ice Bats called Zamboni Rodeo. Really enjoyed Patrick Roy's biography "winning Nothing Else" and found Scotty Bowman's "A Life In Hockey" a good read for a lot of the early NHL stuff. Terry Sawchuck's biography again for a lot of the early NHL stuff is quite interesting.

Read a biog of Herb Brooks (Miracle on Ice coach) and that is superb. Just finished a book called The Great One: The complete collection - its basically a collection of articles from Sports Illustrated written throughout Gretzky's career - its a great way to see just how he was thought of at different stages of his life.
But as has already been mentioned, Ken Dryden's The Game is probably the best hockey book out there.

Didn't Don Cherry release an auto-biog too?

Whilst not an autobiography per say, "The Code: The Unwritten Rules of Fighting and Retaliation in the NHL" by Ross Bernstein gives an insight into the more physical side of the game.

Talking of books. The Team GB book I wrote in 2010 was on the counter at the merchandise stall.Assuming at 4 years plus old it had been reduced. Yep it had....to FREE. So if someone needs something to prop a door open with go along and ask for one.
