Best uni in the country at what they do. If we don't snag top quality players on the back of this theres something wrong

Does this mean panthers no longer have a link with Derby University? Or will there be a link with both?

Wonder if that means Henley wont be back as there was alot of talk about him being on a 2yr course with the uni. Loughborough's ok but a pain to travel to.

Loughborough's ok but a pain to travel to. No more or less of a pain to travel to than the Uni of Derby. Surely though the travel implications should be very secondary to the quality of the course/appeal to potential signings? Which is the bigger draw? An MBA from a world renown specialist sports uni or an MBA from the lowest ranked uni for business in the East Midlands? An MBA from a business school ranked 8th out of 116 or 96th out of 116? Its not hard to get to at all I went to the college across the road for 4 years its on the A6 which is a decent route off the M1 via the A512 if I remember. Loughborough uni is a top school which trumps steelers uni offer.

Really? I wouldn't have thought there's much to choose between the two, although Sheffield is based in the city centre. Regards Doom If league tables are your thing (they aren't for me but I know you love your stats) then the three main university guides all rank Loughborough higher than the University of Sheffield for Business and Management (the usual course imports take). Loughborough 8th, Sheffield 30thLoughborough 7th, Sheffield 48thLoughborough 9th, Sheffield 33rdWhilst these tables may be slightly flawed due to incorporating mainly/solely undergraduate information they still reflect upon the overall quality of said universities' Business and Management schools. Of course you're right, some imports may prefer going to a more city centre based uni in the arm pit of England rather than a specialist sports university where they'll have some of the best sports specialist lectures, trainers etc on hand, there is after all nowt as queer as folk.

Blimey, can't you just tell it's the off season....
Doom is the only fan of any team in the league that wouldn't be bothered about signing Jordan Fox so don't be too concerned if your viewpoints don't meet.
For what it's worth it takes 40 mins to get to either Loughborough or Derby Uni from the NIC so this would seem like an upgrade on the Uni front for Panthers. Whether it's better than Sheffield who cares?

A pro sportsman is more likely to be keen on a place at a sports specialist uni than another one as thats their line of work. Like what's been said its world renowned . Its team Gbs headquarters I believe .

I'm not sure it's strictly true that I'm the only one who wouldn't take Fox, I'm sure there are others who like me think you probably had the best out of him a couple of seasons ago. What I don't understand is why the Panthers have never set up a deal with one of the Universities in Nottingham. As an outsider looking in it would appear to be a good partnership for both sides. The varsity ice hockey match is always very well attended and Nottingham is very much an ice sports city, so I would have thought the University would have wanted a link up. Regards Doom

Regards Doom With regard to a deal with Nottingham University, they already have some sort of a tie up with Nottinghamshire CCC (one assumes looking at the logos on the covers at Trent bridge). In addition to county cricket, they get free advertising on national and international TV. Perhaps Nottingham University don't view ice hockey as that prestigious. Loughborough would rank above Derby and is just down the motorway, so is easily accessible. They are talking about courses such as MBA, which seems to be highly regarded at Loughborough. Obviously Loughborough is also famous for the sports studies. One thought going through my mind is as to whether Panthers might get help on the fitness/sports science side. Mark Coles was less involved on the fitness side last season and I think that he is Newark based. Therefore if this does happen travel time is not a factor. With regard to Jordan Fox - just ask DS -I think we know what the answer would be.

With regard to Jordan Fox - just ask DS -I think we know what the answer would be. The Nottinghamshire CCC angle sounds plausible. I'm sure I read somewhere that the reason Sheffield University linked up with the Steelers was because they wanted to attract more students from North America and therefore being associated with a popular North American sport would help. Regarding Fox, he was the best two way centre in the league when he played for the Panthers, but as we've seen many times, returning players don't usually perform at the same level on their return. I'd like to see the Steelers sign some new players to this country who are hungry to make a name for themselves. Regards Doom
