I have heard that a Sheffield fan fell down the stairs in the arena at POFW. He sustained a cut on his head, three broken ribs and a punctured lung. I didn't see this incident, but I have seen people falling down the stairs before. Isn't it about time there were hand-rails running from top to bottom?
Reports are that the Sheffield fan is recovering, and I hope he continues to do so, with no lasting ill-effects.

Never understood why the rails don't run all the way from top to bottom?

With gaps, people can use both sides of the stairs to access either block that the stairs separate.

There's plenty of people who come to the game who struggle to find the correct seat/row/block/arena when they first get there, having to pick the right side of the steps too would definitely be beyond them. Not to mention those completely devoid of spacial awareness who hang out on the steps at the breaks blocking one side up.
The gaps aren't that big really. This Sheffield guy, I hope he recovers fully, but it was POFW, had he been spending a few moments with Mr Booze? Even if not, did he take the required care when using the steps, was he even trying to use the hand rail? I imagine you could put in an escalator and someone would find a way to fall down it.
Actually an escalator would be great, I sit at the back and I'm getting on a bit now, make it so Gary.

the arena has been open 12 years with millions of people attending various things and im sure if there was a major problem with the stairs there would be hand rails installed by now.
As has been said accidents do happen.

From what I could see he was an elderly gentleman sat on one of the front few rows. I assume he just lost him balance and bumped into the boards at the bottom.

Hope he recovers well. I seen them helping him away and wondered what had happened. Like has been said though accidents do happen.

Yes it was an elderly gentleman, not too old but certainly didnt look drunk when i saw him getting taken to the ambulance! Poor guy missed his team winning as well. Maybe someone could do with emailing the arena with the suggestion to avoid any future accidents?

I believe the man that fell down was Mark Thomas' grandad as he tweeted about it after the game. Looked like a fairly nasty injury.

What a brilliant idea. You could have those inflatable ones like they use to evacuate planes. Keep them at the top of each gangway and have them linked to a device that inflates them automatically when the hooter goes at the end of the period. Would stop everyone leaving before the end and blocking peoples' views.

You're a visionary, Stef. You've got my vote should you ever run for MP.
