I'm actually quite surprised the Steelers aren't on that list, I thought there average attendance would've broken the 3500 barrier

The fact that they don't have enough fans to make their arena viable for all games drags their average down.

Assuming my maths is correct and it is for this season then I'm also surprised we're not on that list, because my calculations are as follows:
Arena Games = 24 Total Attendance = 116,602 Average = 4,858 Ice Sheffield Games = 7 Total Attendance = 9,174 Average = 1,311 Combined Games = 31 Combined Attendance = 125,776 Average = 4,057
Either my quick tot up of attendances is wrong or maybe they've left us off of the list due to our split venues.

Doom Be interesting to know what they say by this if you ask them Doom.Maybe you can let them know about this. Could be a few other teams missing perhaps because of poor stats research.

I quickly calculated the attendances from this website:
www.steelersstats.co.uk/easy_input/total_games.htm#2013/14
I don't think the Steelers officially release their attendances on game sheets, which might explain why they're not listed in the top 100.
If the Steelers figures aren't included though, does that also mean the overall EIHL average is higher than that listed?

Swiss ice hockey obviously has really good support, but they do have other problems. I was talking to a couple of Swiss fans last summer and they were saying how they suffered from hooliganism at matches, which was a surprise.

To an old fart like me who used to trundle round the country in the 1980s watching games in crowds of 400-500 this is scarcely believable and something to be massively, massively proud of. Nottingham in there amongst the Russians, Swedes, Finns, Czechs etc.
Brilliant.

They don't have the family atmosphere we have here,a lot more young men make up the fan bases

Eric Werner was playing in the game

I guess 'hockeyarenas.net' run to different criteria to the IIHF. There must be some reason the IIHF won't recognise the figures Steelers fans keep quoting. Perhaps freebies don't count. Maybe if the IIHF do a Top 500 next season Steelers might feature somewhere.

It's a shame in a way that Steelers didn't make the list. Their average attendance (if it's 4000+) would surely boost the EIHL average and push the EIHL a bit higher up? Slightly off topic but why don't they issue their attendances then? Tax fiddle on ticket sales/income?

Slightly off topic but why don't they issue their attendances then? Tax fiddle on ticket sales/income? According to Nemesis the reason our attendance figures aren't on the game sheets is due to the time taken to get the figures from the arena. He faxes the game sheet off shortly after the games, but the attendance figures come through later. I guess the IHHF probably use game sheet figures to make their calculations, hence no Steelers or Stingrays, whereas this other website probably uses the information given. Based on my 20 years of watching the Steelers I'd say the attendances listed look about right, especially considering the capacity at the arena has been increased by a few hundred since the refurbishment. It's a shame in a way that Steelers didn't make the list. Their average attendance (if it's 4000+) would surely boost the EIHL average and push the EIHL a bit higher up? Most likely. If we factor in Sheffield's 4000, and estimate 800 for Hull (as there are no figures published), the figure would be about 2370. And that's taking a low estimate for Hull. It could be higher. That would put is into 8th place above DEL2 (2267) and NLB. And I reckon that's closer to reality. Then again... the same calculation problems might apply to other leagues. All we can say is, we don't have great confidence in the statistical results :-)

A couple of new teams to the league could also help to push things in the right direction. I hope we (the elite league) can offer the fans the full product a bit more often next season. Ie teams playing at full strength more often. The amount and length of bans handed out this season has been way too high for my liking.
