It has been announced by Tony Smith in the last half hour that Gerard Adams has been appointed head coach of Sheffield Steelers

Out of the frying pan into a furnace, that's been covered in petrol, lit, and poked at with a big orange stick

According to the Sheffield Star headline, he gets the job next season as well if he wins the playoffs.....

Another short term fix to a long term problem.

So the EIHL merry-go-round continues. The target of him winning the playoffs to secure his long term future there is a little harsh. Come on Tony, give him chance to get used to the size of the ice pad first

If he doesn't get the job next season does that make him the shortest serving steelers coach in history? (Ignoring caretaker coaches I.e. Goertzen, Abel

True, I suppose if his contract only runs till the end of the season there's not much he could do about it

My understanding is that he's guaranteed the job next season if Steelers win the play-offs. If they don't, he will still be considered for it, but depending on how things have gone.

Seems alot of hard work for him for what is little reward, imho its a no win situation, the odds are very long on him turning things around in such a short period of time there and unless he has something planned already for next season and just wants to mill around the EIHL till this season ends i cant see why he would agree to such an almost guaranteed failure...

There's an advert in The Star. For sale, 1x Wheelbarrow, 1x Fork, 1x Spade, 1x Rake and a pair of Wellington boots. Hardly used, not required anymore after Garden leave cancelled.

It's certainly not going to be an easy job for G but hopefully we'll get a bit more entertainment along the way.

He may have some short term success however Smiths demand of playoff win or no future is typical of his limited hockey vs team game knowledge. He can sell trinkets but knows crap about putting a winning organization together or supporting it when needed.

As soon as Adams was releaved of his coaching duties at Cardiff it was only a matter of dropping out of the title race before big Dougs time was up.

Only if he wins a piece of metal and wants to stay. Think he is smarter than that and will take a serious look at other offers. Sheffield is not given its lack of success according to fans and big Tony a appealing place to coach in even with winning percentages in the 70% range for previous coaches.

Im guessing Adams won't have a problem with buying success anymore now hes back at the Steelers then? LOL! I remember him commenting on Dave Simms Facebook saying something to that effect. Dave deleted my comment on announcing Adams as coach lol
