It is looking like as if Sandwell MBC have approved for the demolition of a car park, and the construction of a 3000 seater rink (originally it was only going to be a 1500 seater rink - but I'm lead to believe that its been increased to 3000) It would seem as if an operator for the rink is already lined to run the rink too Completion date - end of 2015 Would that mean that an EIHL team would be line up for the 2016/17 season (I know it seems a long time away and a lot can happen between now and then) New Ice Rink - West Bromwich

I don't think B necessarily follows A, you still need someone to back the team (would be unlikely the operator - someone like Planet Ice presumably - would do that), Braehead Arena didn't get a tenant team immediately I don't think (Scottish Eagles about 3 years after it was built) for instance.
But having quality new facilities can't ever hurt, and it'd be in a good place for the Elite League should someone want to start something down there.
Think Simmsy was banging on the other day about this, how West Brom were doing it but there's nothing in Birmingham etc. Probably wants to be able to jump ship from the Steelers.

Gives us another local game if it comes to fruition and a potential rival for Coventry?

Have Sheffield got their new rink yet? Ask Bob. Of course there is the argument that Sheffield don't need (and never needed) a new rink and it was purely a vanity project for Dodgy Bob, driven by his seeming inability to deal with SIV. Bob has gone, Mr Smith seems to be a bit more level-headed than Bob. Its delayed due to technicalities with the planning. www.constructionenquirer.com/2013/08/22/start-delayed-on-kiers-16m-cardiff-ice-arena/Of course Ragan is involved, make of that what you will.... The London team Neil Black wants in place for at the earliest 2014/2015 season*? What season is this again? You may be right but, to use a hockey phrase, you miss 100% of shots you don't take. *(Though more likely 2015/2016 due to him having to go to the Competition Commission to try to prevent AEG (who have a vested interest in ice hockey but seemingly no wish to set up a British team) from monopolising suitable hockey venues in London.)

Workforce on site week starting 20th Jan, according to the man in the know on the Inferno. Here's the website for the arena: www.icearenawales.co.uk/Devils will be getting free ice time for matches and 4 2 hour training sessions a week as well, apparently, but it sounds as though they will get none of the on ice advertising, or the boards around the rink. Although this appears not to be confirmed.
