Have just read in the NEP that todays game will be Mick Hollands last as a reporter for the paper as he is retiring.
Think Panthers should at least acknowledge this in some way, minutes applause for a starter?

100% agree - might not always agree with his reports but he has been such an important part of the Panthers formany years he deserves at least what you suggest. All the best for your retirement

Not so sure about the applause (?) ... but i'd say a 'thank you' on the OS wouldn't go amiss ... though panthers org are not that great at these sort of things.

A minute's applause before a game is usually reserved for someone (ex-player / supporter) who has died recently, so not really a fitting tribute? Taking part in the ceremonial puck drop before a game would be much more acceptable, and would give the crowd their chance to show their appreciation.
Mick has covered ice hockey for the NEP since its return to Nottingham in the 1980's, and he's as passionate about the Panthers, and hockey in general, as any other fan. His reporting of the Panthers and the Junior hockey setup has helped keep ice hockey in the hearts and minds of Nottingham people for over 30 years now, and although he's had his critics at times, for apparently being too close to the Panthers management, the NEP will be much the poorer without his input.
Let's just hope that the NEP ice hockey reporter's desk isn't given to some 'wet behind the ears' cub reporter, who knows nowt about the game - or even worse, to one who thinks they know something about the game!
Many thanks Mick, and I for one hope that you will continue to support the Panthers as a fan for many years to come!

going to miss reading his stories/match reports that are not the same as the actual match!! Might be something to do with the suggestion he does not go to them all... In any event, a good servant to ice hockey and the Panthers. Will be interesting to see who takes over.

A sad day for the club. Mick has always done his utmost to support the sport and specifically the club.

Hope he enjoys his retirement, haven't always agreed with his stuff but he's given the club good coverage over the years.

Hope he enjoys his retirement, haven't always agreed with his stuff but he's given the club good coverage over the years. Seconded. I'm sure that MH has been one of the (many) reasons why the Panthers have the rock-solid high attendance levels that they do... his constant publicising of the club has undoubtedly been a positive factor. I can attest to that myself, as it was an article in the NEP just before the 1999-2000 season that prompted me to investigate this ice hockey lark... and I've never looked back! (there you go, now you've REALLY got something to slag Mick Holland off for! ). And a good public acknowledgement from the club yesterday. Nice one.
